Best thing you can do is watch Georgetown during the 1985 season, that's a typical Cal offense.
Then watch how the best teams are playing right now. The court is spread and 3 point shooting is a much bigger focus.
Under Cal, we're typically at the bottom of the rankings when it comes to 3pt attempts and 3pt makes. We have now had two games where we didn't hit a 3 under Cal, that's bad.
Just watch the 2021 national title game for the best example. Yeah, Baylor ran a lot of iso, but they did it right. They made Gonzaga come out and guard the 3, because they proved they were going to burn them if they were left open and they aldo proved they will rebound their misses.
There's a huge difference. Cal will continue to run offense through the post, no matter the circumstance. That’s fine when you have KAT or Cousins, but when you have Skal, Jackson, Dakari, Richards or Poythress as your primary big man, it doesn't work.
We were down 15 in Rupp to Alabama with 10 minutes left last season, Cal, proving once again that he's hard headed as hell, ran 10 post plays in a row… ..through Jackson that started with Jackson getting the ball 15' from the basket on the baseline. He never scored, turned the ball over most of the time and he picked up 2 offensive fouls in the process. If you think that's a modern offense, I can't help you.
Anyone that tries to turn guys like Skal or Jackson into back-to-the-basket players is stuck in the 80's.
