Oh also I'm sick of posters tearing down others for an opinion. We all have one. I'm not making this to attack you personally its a sport. We can agree to disagree without ppl getting mad.
You really want Hardy and Abmas. I , like everyone else have seen your posts. I agree with you 100%. The problem is, they arent coming. IT is kinda like me wishing Fox and Monk will join the team. It is a great thought but that is all it is. If they show up, you are the man.

Whoo!! That's a lot to digest.

Based on what you just wrote, when will it be a GOOD time for Cal to leave the program. And he WILL leave at some point, just like Rupp,
Hall, Pitino.....and all the rest.

Cal is actually holding a portion of the fanbase hostage for fear of the program collapsing as he walks out the door, leaving the program in ruins.

Again, that day will come, also. And it will be no different than when the others left. There will be a 2-3 maybe even 4 year time period to rebuild the program.

Cal faced the same problem you speak of when he followed BCG, but he was able to rob Memphis of their entire recruiting class and reload with talent immediately.

It still took him until 2012 to win a title, so it didn't happen overnight with Cal and all that talent.

It sounds like many assume that last year was an anomaly for Cal and that he will immediately get us back in the hunt next year.

So, you are also assuming that Cal can take a whole new group of players, mold them into a team, and get them to buy into his Stars eat first system.

Based on the trend since 2015, Cal has not been able to do that for whatever reason.

What do you think Cal will do different this year that he did not try last year?

Will the Transfers be more talented? Hopefully.
Will Cal play them ahead of his 5 stars?
Will Cal play them ahead of returning players? If there are any left.

Some folks better get mentally prepared for Cal leaving if next year turns out like last year.

Looking at UT, Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and Florida's potential for next year, it could be another rough season for UK and Cal.

If it is another bad year, then what?

How many bad years before something HAS to change?
Actually, this season was an anomaly and it doesn't take much analysis to see it. You realize that the 2019-20 team finished 25-6, won the SEC, was a top 10 team and one of the hottest teams in the country before covid stole the NCAA-T from that group and we then lost that whole team. That was a team comprised of several newcomers, a transfer, and some returnees.

And yes, as a rule, with this season as an exception, Cal has been able to reload on a yearly basis and managed somehow to be in the national conversation with a brand new team. No, he hasn't won a title or made a final four since 2014-15 but he has been to 2 elite 8s in that time frame and been very close to making a final four in those 2 seasons. The Fox, Monk, Adebayo crew got robbed in the UNC game and the 2018-19 team (just 2 seasons ago) made the Elite 8 and would have likely made the Final Four if they hadn't run into a hot Auburn team they were being asked to beat for the 3rd time in the season, and were within a whisker of doing that.

You guys act like Cal's last 5 seasons have been a complete debacle, as though the team wasn't competing nationally and like he forgot how to coach.

So, what is the REAL difference in this season? Is it just the natural conclusion of 5 years of mediocrity? Is this season typical of Cal? No, there was nothing "business as usual" about this season. Covid-19 is a big reason for that.

So, here's my thought, and it is really the only choice we have here, see what Cal does this coming season. He's going to need to blend a bunch new guys together to make a team. But he's going to have a somewhat normal summer and a normal preseason, a normal schedule, and we'll see. I think what we will see is Cal hasn't truly missed a step. I expect him to be as good as he's ever been this season.

Please stop with this hyperbole in your posts. How can you get " Cal's last 5 seasons have been a complete debacle" from the statement "based on the trend since 2015"?

It is a nice deflection from answering the question that "if" this year is another bad year, then what?

Seriously, where do we go from here. Do we just keep hanging on to Cal hoping to turn it around. BCG got canned with a much better record than what Cal had this year.

And then, serious question, how many bad years does Cal get to have before you think it is time for a change?

Every fan knows Cal is coaching UK this year, and most UK fans are hoping we NEVER see another season like this past season.

But if you can't see that Cal is floundering trying to put a team together for next year right now I don't know what to say.

And not just a team of misfits like this past year, but a team that can at least make it to the NCAA tournament.

$9M ought to get you in.

If this is the type of roster were looking at for years to come I'd rather have Rick Pitino than Cal. Unpopular opinion around here I'm sure but Rick is probably one of the best coaches I've ever seen. If Cal goes another not so good season I feel the tide will start to turn on him ala tubby and BCG. It's truly hardy or bust hes the only player that could change this team from pretender to contender at this point. Cal not making changes at assistants will he make changes to his coaching philosophy? Probably not, but I dont blame those who have hope. I too used to defend Cal as had as nails, its become too much at this point. You cant say "UK eats first" and were the "Gold Standard" or "Envy our past fear our future" with these classes. Cal missed on at least 2 national championship wins imo. Man I hope he turns it around this year I just don't see it. For those saying "Wait til the class is finished" This isn't like adding Jamal Murray or Herro or Knox theres no real 5* splash outside of Hardy. That class is done. Transfers are a supplement not an answer. We'll see what product Cal puts out next year. I wish him the best.
You seem to be saying he needs the best of the best(who doesn't?) he coached at UMass and Memphis, think he can remember that far back and coach those type players again?

the season before last wasn't that long ago, they were in the conversation Damn Covid! Maybe this season was an anomaly. They lost the summer and fall workouts. That tough when your team consists of freshmen and transfers

I want good players. I know Abmas and Hardy are pipe dreams. UK needs those types of players to be competitive under Cals model and with he incoming talent I fear were looking at another down year next year and I'm not seeing any measures to fix it for not just this season but the future.
You seem to be saying he needs the best of the best(who doesn't?) he coached at UMass and Memphis, think he can remember that far back and coach those type players again?
Cal still had really good recruiting classes at both those schools. I hope Cal can find the fire to coach again.
Funniest thing about this post is that "ok, I'll say it" made me expect something to be said that so many others are unwilling to say. Just look around for a sec and you'll see about 100 other posters saying similar things. Yep, this last season sucked. Case closed.

The other funny thing is that the op claims to be an optimist.

Here's what I see. UK fans are a spoiled bunch. We will complain if guys leave. We will complain if guys stay. We will complain about freshmen. We will complain about transfers. The only thing we do consistently is complain about whatever is happening.

I'm not making any guarantees about next season, that much is sure. All we can do is wait and see and "actually" hope for the best for our coach, our players, and our staff.

There you go, another opinion. :D
Im an optimist as in I won't count out UK before the season starts next year but I also live in reality and am watching Cal pull his worst recruiting class ever at UK and watching him struggle to even get people to come play here that are talented in the transfer portal. You can be an optimist and not think Cal poops ice cream.

No you don’t. Stop lying.

Idk how many fans say that **** after saying some dumb **** like that...I want Rick and he’s a better coach but I wish Cal the best and hopes he turns it around.....lies!!! The lies you tell!!!!

I’ve seen one poster admit that no matter what cal does he’ll always want Cal gone. Some other posters need to admit this instead of posting the same dumb argument over and over. Yeah everyone that watches UK knows the problems but we still have the same arguments by the same posters. **** gets old real quick.

Loook at me I hate Cal too....hey hey over here I want attention.

9-16 season brought out all the cry boys.
I want UK to be good and Cal contract dictates hes here to stay so the only way UK can be good is if Cal can figure this out and right the ship. So I absolutely wish him the best. I never said I want Cal to be fired actually. I said I want him to change with the times and approach the game differently.

Well it’s his worst recruiting class ever cuz it isn’t OAD loaded...thought we wanted multi year players? In order for that to happen we have to recruit lower rated players So the class isn’t going to be top 2.

And his worst class ever?...I mean come it’s still top 5 currently.

And we have two of the best transfers in the portal.

I won’t lie I’m a little worried about PG but still some time left but come on man you are acting Cal completely fell off.

It is his worst class at UK easily and he only got 3 players (1 5* and 2 4*) to replace a mass Exodus. The PG position is something to worry about bc we saw last year how Cal's system works with bad PG play. I'm fine recruiting multi year players and I encourage it but thats not going to help us for next year. The transfers we get out of the portal, and there will be a lot, could end up like last years transfers and be more flop than hit. I hope I'm wrong but transfers as I've said before are a supplement not a solution.

Or they could not be a flop and be a hit. It’s all how you wanna think about it.

I think its been proven we shouldn't really rely on Transfers as a crutch. I do like the kid from Davidson tho. Oscar should be viable. The next few transfers we get are the ones to watch

I feel like every transfer we’ve picked up has filled their role other than Sarr so idk why we couldn’t. We will prolly be asking Grady to do the most so we will see how he does but we’ve done nice in the transfer market.

Unfortunately the handful of Calipari supporters left do that often.

They will take the valid well thought out critiques and criticisms and turn around and gaslight and exaggerate as you just mentioned above.

it’s like ->

“I like ketchup and mustard equally”.

“Oh okay so you’re saying you hate ketchup but love mustard!”

“No, no really- I like both Ketchup and mustard equally”

“Yeah right you LOVE mustard and HATE ketchup!”

Hardy was the key to this class and his going to the G league hurt us in a big way . The G league will continue to hurt us and many more schools. What was 2 or 3 top players last year will be 5 to 7 this year. It is just one more variable contributing to what is becoming a very watered down college landscape. I long for the college teams of 10, 20, 30 etc. years ago.

And this is exactly the reason Cal needs to rethink his whole philosophy on how he builds a team. The OAD era is over as far as getting a whole team of them and expecting them to play in college for a year when they can get paid and not even have to go to school.

Cal needs to start right now, while the portal is full, building a team of Srs.,Jrs., Sophs, and throw in some talented Freshman that may not be lottery picks but are willing to hang around for a few years and actually want to play college basketball.

Maybe that's what Cal is doing. I hope so.

It looks to me that Cal is doing just that. I think we may get another freshman and another transfer or two. Unless there are G league changes and transfer changes, the one and done model for Cal and K is dead although, K is giving it one more try this year.
