Yeah when he was in high school and somewhere here posted about him they got bombarded with idiots saying he couldn’t play here. He might have been the best player on our team this year.
We only recruit players that have length and wingspan....forget about shooting, defending and passing.

I don’t see myself justifying Boston’s minutes. He is obviously a much higher ceiling player. I’ve watched McClung a lot. I doubt you have. He isn’t special. In fact, I’ve covered my last 2 bets betting against TTU primarily because I think they are flawed with him at the point.
Higher ceiling based on what? His high school mixtape? I have watched McClung play. Plays hard, sometomes tries to hard to make something out of nothing. Still would take him on this team right now today. Not in place of anyone, but like having guys that can shoot the ball. He can make plays with the ball in his hand. I really don't care what he projects at the next level.

He's 21 years old. If he's ever gonna be decent I'd say now is the time. This year he could have helped us. Most years I would take every 18 year old we have over him being 21.

You get McClung if you can get McClung. No brainer. UK on track to add over 30 ppg average from two transfers.

All these guys who don’t won’t the leading scorer off the #10 team in the nation. lol.
THIS! There is such a weird sense of entitlement and arrogance in our fan base ...almost to the point of delusion.

Even after a disastrous 9-16 season, we still have fans who believe not good enough for us a kid who was the best player on a MUCH better team, and a better player than anyone we had on our roster this past season. WTF is wrong with you people?

Sometimes less is more, and the percentages don’t tell the entire story. He’s a pg with a career 2.2 assists per game. He has always been the focal point of the offense on his teams which results in inefficient offensive possessions. Ive watched him play a a lot, I don’t care what the numbers say, i think he’s a horrible fit. At both Georgetown and TT from an offensive perspective they were only as good as McClung bc he dominated the ball. Unfortunately he’s an undrafted nba talent instead of an actual NBA talent.

On the positive side, he is a playmaker and can have big games. He is very confident and isn’t afraid to take and create shots. He belongs somewhere that he can have the reigns as THE guy.

As a practical matter though, when did talent evaluation become fully reliant on percentages. There are so many variables that come in to play beyond what someone shoots from 3 (style of play, fit, height, athleticism, defense, etc., etc.). It is weird to me that you and others are being critical of anyone bearish on McClung to Kentucky. I could be wrong, but my assessment of McClung is that he will be more a net negative than a net positive for the cats...and that’s not being entitled; to me it’s settling for a middle of the road talent who thinks he’s a star.

Your use of the word “settling“ implies that we have better options, so can you tell us precisely who those better options are? This kid was the leading scorer and best player on a damn good ranked team. So on what basis does our 9-16 team have to say he’s not good enough for us?

This is an example of the sort of delusional sense of entitlement I was referencing. You presume we can do better, when really we can’t. Yeah, ideally I’d like to find a John Wall, but there ain’t no Walls available. This is the best we can do and we’d be lucky to get him.

I don’t think he’s better than Mintz or potentially Hickman when considering what we need from the PG position. I understand there aren’t many options available, but I just don’t like his game at all, especially for Kentucky. Perhaps it’s on Cal for not going after one of the other PGs in the portal...or maybe, there is someone we don’t know about yet. As someone who watches virtually every college basketball game, I have never been high on McClung. That’s my opinion, you have yours. Perhaps you feel good to attack those that disagree rather than understanding there’s a valid different point of view.

To be fair Govan was the focal points of the offense at G-town. Akinjo and McClung were 1&2 B. He didn’t dominate the ball until Tech and even then it was only in spurts. You’re right about his assist totals. He’s not a guy who creates for others but he can go get a basket when needed. I would argue he was a better college player than anyone we had this season on our squad. That’s not settling in the transfer market. We’d all be ecstatic to have the newcomer of the year who was 2nd team all conference coming back.

McClung was the high scorer for Texas Tech but I would challenge the thought that he was their best player.
