Bad news coming today?

See, I can't get on board with this. This is the kind of stuff we read year after year when guys leave.

"We don't need Keldon Johnson back, we have Khahlil Whitney coming in!"

"Let Whitney go! Terrence Clarke is coming baby. Top 5 pick!"

That #3 is what I'm talking about. There is no way, as a freshman, Hopkins is going to come in more ready to contribute than a junior Brooks would. There's just no way.

Every year we spin all these guys leaving into "it's not a loss, we have better stuff coming in." We need continuity period. Guys leaving that would give us continuity IS bad news. Always has been.
Great post.
I want every non first round draft pick to come back and stay until they are first round picks or graduate. This is supposed to be a college program.
Hopefully Sarr, Brooks and Mintz come back. I wish Askew came back too.
Look at the transfers we are looking at, they're all upperclassmen.
Heck, Carr wouldn’t be leaving if his coach didn't get fired. Sarr wouldn’t have left Wake if Manning didn't get fired.
Brooks would be a rare junior at UK and that is just stupid. We need to hang onto our players.

A news "dump" implies there's more than one story. Sarr leaving is expected. Hopefully it's not about Mintz, but my WAG is that his departure is one of these...
Or one extremely big story. Like Cal leaving or NCAA allegations level stuff.

This is not meant to be personal...just an observation in general. I read a lot of comments along the line of "His dad said..." Now be honest, if you were asked if your son planned to come back if he wasn't looking good for the NBA, would you say anything other than... "Oh yes, he is blue thru and thru!"?

I mean what father would say, "Well, you know he was raised in Indiana, and is friends with Jackson-Davis, so maybe he'll consider going there"?

So, let's not put any stock into what a parent says.
Most parents don't say anything let alone be overly positive like saying we love our time here. We have open free agency in college basketball now. It would be pretty reasonable to assume KB has caught wind of something than a guy misses his buddy and is homesick when his parents are in lexington a good amount of.time.

I'll say this, and I'll say it later if it happens.. If Cal were to lose Mintz, while losing Askew, and not have a PG lined up to play 30mpg at Kentucky, that is a huge strike for me.

If we go into next season without a PG and we have another season like this, I'll likely be ready to move on.

Unacceptable to dance on the ledge like this, with your most important position. Kentucky should have had it's point guard secured a week ago. Figure it out. Make promises. Deliver the bag. Hire an uncle. Get. A. Pointguard!

With OKSTATE literally firing Cade's brother today.. why are we not hiring Hardy's relative. **** it. Just pick one of his cousins and say "Here's $200k for a special position, and give all of it to Hardy".

I don't even care if we pay Hardy out right. I'm willing to take the chance. Let the NCAA come after us. We'll get our punishment in 2032 when college basketball doesn't even exist anymore lol.

Maybe it will be good news for a change. I think Cal has a PG lined up and just not letting it out yet. But OP is right bad news usually get dumped on Friday for some reason.

This is spot on. Plain and simple Brooks will be better than anybody we bring in. Hes also better than Toppin or anybody that can play the 4 on our roster. If he had a normal offseason and didn't get hurt early in the year he would have been a much different player this year.
I’ve been saying that very thing about the whole team, a normal off season and the win/loss record would be different. Even Boston missed games over a injured finger but I agree with you.

IDK, how do the other 348 D1 programs handle those situations? Why are they getting their players back?

Not only do we lose two duds, Jackson and two transfers, we can't even hang on to Brooks and Mintz?

Also, Mintz making 6 figures… ..where?

I've said it for months, Mintz should be Cal's most Important recruit, he can't let him and Brooks slip away, if he does, he hasn't learned a damn thing.
Mintz and nearly every other decent to average college basketball D1 player can go overseas and make 100k-600k in different basketball leagues.

Looks like Cal's talk after the season ended about keeping players around longer meant nothing.
Well, it's not like he can force them to stay. Perhaps they were all sick of his crap and hated this past year enough to GTFO. I wouldn't blame them.

You can't force these guys to stay. the only player thats leaving that doesn't make a ton of sense is Askew. Otherwise Brooks is an Indiana kid and these Mintz was a senior anyways who may not want to play college ball.

I don't think Mintz is in that group, but why would you do that when you can finish your masters program and play one more season for UK?
Seems like a no brainer to me.
Heaven forbid a fringe pro basketball guy complete and round out his education. Terrible idea.

I don't get these kind of tweets: "if/when there's a Friday news dump....it may not be the best news". Thanks for telling us absolutely nothing. "if"..."may not be"...

At least I find some entertainment in delusional guys bouncing and the BS social media graphic and post made for them. “Wow! What a year. I loved my time with BBN and have grown so much. So what if I was a disaster with low basketball IQ and unimpressive stats. I must take the next journey to the NBA.

I will say - I think Cal has a plan; he will not have a season like last year. No doubt in my mind we will be a top 25 team. I think KB leaving will be a win/win for both he and UK. I want Mintz back big time. And I think Cal probably has a PG already lined up, so if Carr is going somewhere else, I won’t freak out. So, really, If this isn’t about Mintz I’m good.
We should have a top 25 team every year.
