Askew leaving UK

Feel really bad for Askew (for all of the kids on this team, really - as frustrating as they were). He had a really rough year, and folks were pretty brutal to him. He doesn't seem to have enough game to ever become the regular starting 1 for a UK team, so in that sense I get it. On the other hand, we somehow have to move away from the OAD model, getting back to a traditional way of building/maintaining a roster, and this goes against that. This is going to be a tough move to make.

Cal's system is so messed up if its not One and Done it is One and transfer. Not at all what I want. I would like to see Askew develop so when he finally gets it he feels he owes UK something for making him who he is. Not beating him down until he feels unwanted. Good job Guys!

See what I did there, I blamed Cal and the Fans.

This couldn't be more obvious, or logical. Or positive for UK's next year squad.

1. Cal is adding a top-ranked transfer.
2. Hickman is more than capable of taking Askew's back-up minutes, and has shown he's a better option for 22-23...
3. It likely means good news on Mintz.

You've got to reaaaalllly stretch to see this as a negative for Kentucky. It's a positive sign for all those reasons and Devin could read the tea leaves.

“I’m not like other West Coast kids,” Askew said when asked about being so far from home. “That doesn’t affect me.”
Still, the Sacramento, California, native is at least aware of the conversation.
“A lot of West Coast kids want to stay home, and they’re afraid to go far for college and stuff like that,” he said when asked to explain how he was different from other players from the region. “That’s not me. I want to be different — and I am different. I feel like coming here was best for me, so I did it.
“And it is best for me. I’m learning a lot. I’m learning new things every day. … If I come out here, I’m out here. I’m not leaving.”

Well, when you learn you are being replaced things change.

I am quoting the tweet. lol

UK can fix this. Cal can fix this. This is the culture and environment Cal created here. Its a bit toxic. If you ain't in in 1 year with all of the false promises Cal recruits over you. He needs to change that philosophy. #1 recruiting classes every year are 100% meaningless if they don't produce.

I don't have to stretch too awfully far. For next year, maybe no big deal. For the continuity and growth of the program, maybe it is a negative. It would be nice to have a guy like Askew stick around. He might be really good by his junior or senior years.

Further proof that nothing anyone says is a "lock."
Right....this guy said multiple times that he wasn’t like the other “west coast transfers”. Matter of fact I think he just said that a few weeks ago

Yeh so glad we had Boston and Clarke to take Juzang's minutes - Some people never learn or forget real quick.

College basketball is a free market now, and therefore there is little need for players to stay at a school for 3 to 4 years

We will have our oldest back court next year and not a single one of them will have played more than 2 years at UK

We will get a transfer PG and Hickman will be the back up, so there would have been no time for Askew,
This transfer makes complete sense

Win win for UK and Askew

The wishing of Mintz to return is starting to sound like Sarr being a must have and the NCAA is against making him eligible.

I've seen enough of last year's roster being okay with all of them moving on. The ones that are considering returning are looking to get major minutes, so I'm not excited about any of the key players returning. Cal may only have Allen coming back which would was not what anyone predicted.

I'm pretty sure this caused by Kentucky and Cal actively looking to replace him, via either Mintz or any transfer guard they can get, or maybe still a recruit.

Not hard to figure out if you're paying attention. He was the first player to come back.. and Kentucky starts making moves to get a starting PG... so he leaves. If there's no transfer, he probably stays. Sounds to me like staff found something better.

Would have liked to see what he'd become, though. And It's gonna be interesting to see if this turns into a Juzang situation where our fanbase gets mad for losing a kid they didn't want.

I'm sure someone will bring this thread up in a year though, lol.

Saw a tweet that said UL, Tennessee, Duke were the top 3. Probably just someone throwing ish at the wall to see if it sticks but any of those 3 would be a slap.

well add another to the "we only lost 'X' many guys"! list
With this new transfer rule, everybody will lose guys. Especially if the coach tries to improve the team by adding transfers (which we need to do), essentially recruiting over guys with more experienced better players.

Ha ... alright. We were just ahead of the curve. We've been preparing for this "losing all our guys" thing for years now. Once again, Calipari is playing chess.
