Not replying to everyone on this forum. I said Gonzaga was by far the favorite. You can look it up. I once and I mean ONCE that they could be beat because the best team doesn't always win. If I'm laying money it's on Gonzaga, only Baylor can beat them but they have to bring their A game. Other than that it's Zags. If Baylor brings it 40 minutes they can. If they let off for 4 minutes they will probably lose.. maybe by 3 to 5 but they still lose so..

I don’t see how anyone who loves watching college basketball could hate Gonzaga. Their offense is a thing of beauty, they play tenacious help defense. Tonight they didn’t turn the ball over once in the first half. They have a down to earth coach who genuinely seems to be a nice guy. Their kids seem to all be team oriented a reasonably humble. What I see here from many is outright jealousy. I think the best team should win the title most years and this year it appears to be the Zags, see no reason to hate them

I don’t hate Gonzaga but the constant love affair with them is nauseating when you consider their **** conference. They are fun to watch this year but really 30 win seasons in their conference means little. With that being said, Baylor/Zags final will be fun to watch.
Then why can't any other team do it?

I mean people say that about the sec lol. It’s not our conference full of great programs. Besides conference doesn’t matter. You can either play or you can’t.

I am not a Zags hater as I actually thought they were the favorite most of the season. I do hate that they could become the first undefeated champion in 40+ years and have done it by playing in a powder puff conference. I get that they had to beat good teams to win the tournament but any team can slip up and lose a regular season game against good teams. They played in a conference that only got 1 other team in the tournament so most of their games weren't against good teams. It would be like UK football playing in the C-USA conference instead of the SEC.

That’s right. Don’t hate them but don’t love them either. I’m a Kentucky fan. I don’t like any other teams. Because of the nauseating “love affair” and their junk conference, I have a hard time wanting them to win.

It’s easy to win 30 games a year in a crap conference if you are the “it” program. I don’t see that as an outlandish statement. It is much more difficult to win 30 games a year in a power five conference. Mark Few has built a nice program that dominates a mid major conference nothing more nothing less.

If it’s so easy, how come other teams don’t do it? Since 1939, only 11 teams from non major conferences have entered the NCAA Tournament undefeated. 11 teams in 82 years. Conservatively, let’s just say there were an average of 200 non major teams in college basketball each of those years. That’s over 16,000 teams....and 11 entered the NCAA Tournament undefeated.

Going undefeated is hard. It’s a magnitude easier in a shortened season while playing in a weak conference. I don’t think anyone is saying the Zags are not a great team, but put them in a power five conference and the odds they go undefeated are greatly reduced.

I agree it would be more difficult. I also think they could have gone undefeated in the PAC12 this year. Their natural geographic fit.

I’ve seen plenty of people stating on here that going undefeated in a weak conference is easy. Fact is, it’s been nearly impossible.

They play in the WCC? Read the entire post that I quoted.

So your point was, why can't pepperdine do it?

Look at the schools.. if anything it just says how rattling off 30 wins in that conference isn't too difficult.

Even WSU plays in a more substantial conference.

I am all for them, I would rather they win a championship than UCLA. Plus I have never hated the Zags. I personally think watching this team play is enjoyable, they are well coached and a team that plays together like the old days when team play and fundamentals were important.

Gonzaga is great this year.

BUT, one might wonder how things would be in a better conference. More losses would be a certainty, probably leading to lower seeds, probably leading to a couple earlier tourney losses.

Of course, having said all that, they are a legit team and will probably win it all this year.

What Gonzaga is doing is extremely special. I don't care what conference you play in. To go undefeated is extremely difficult. Would they go undefeated in a power 5, I don't know. But with the team they have this year, I wouldn't count it out. They are essentially everything we want at UK and ***** about not having. Guys that stick around, a well executed offense, shooters everywhere, a PG who controls the game, a great bench coach in Few.

Not sure why the hatred for them, tbh.

The Gonzaga hate is really hard for me to understand.

1 - they're not Duke, UNC, Lville, IU, Tenn, Kansas, UConn, or Florida
2 - they've established themselves as a legit program, title game in 2017, F4 in 2021
3 - their conference might be weak, but they play a legit OOC schedule; they dominated Iowa, Virginia, Kansas, Auburn, and beat West Va this season ... what more do you want from them?
4 - they play a fun style of basketball and seem to recruit good kids

Seems like jealousy is taking over rational thinking.

I dont think anyone is doubting Gonzaga greatness right now, or that they wouldn't/couldn't win the title with this team in any other year.

More so, though, that the "undefeated" part, probably doesn't carry as much weight when you play in the WCC in a year that didn't have true away games. That is a BIG deal. Not easy to win 8 games on the road.. hence why so many great teams will drop that road game or two.

Not to mention 8-9 games short of the length of a normal/full season?
