I know that some on this board snarl when they talk about the money Cal makes. The salary is high for a reason.
If a school like Texas calls, believe me, salary will not be an issue. Outside of basketball, he will make double (?) maybe more, to what he makes here. The opportunities in the Austin area, in Texas as a whole, and from the Longhorn network will make it easy to pay him much more than he gets here. I sure hope he decides to stay right here. If he does not, I will thank him for a job well done and wish him well.

If UT offers more money then sure, but the post I was referencing suggested he would go there for a much lower salary. Just seems like an odd move.

From what I have read on this board and in Cals contract, Cals salary from the University is actually a small percentage of his actual salary. He has a base pay of 400,000 dollars from the University. I may be wrong but I think the athletic foundation pays the remainder of the salary. If that is the case it would be easy

If he retires anytime after year 6 in his contract , Cal will have a job with the university that will last until the contract ends, in 2029. He will be paid 950,000 bucks a year for those years. So he would make a max of a little under 4 million for the remaining 4 years on the contract if he retired after year 6. If he retired in 2028, with 1 year left on his contract, he could receive a 1 year payment of 950,000. I think I have that right.

Texas will contact Chris Beard first. That's his alma mater. Word has it it's also his dream job. He currently has a $16 million buyout in his contract if he bolts for any other school in TX. But as some have said that would be no problem for the Longhorns.
I have been reading that there are some other names on the list including Brad Underwood. Calipari will be contacted but, I don't think he is first on the list.
