That's awesome. Let's have some examples of comments we might expect to hear from a few of our favorites. I'll start.

TV Teddy- "Do you think that angle is getting my good side?"

Pat Adams- "This game is getting out of hand. I'd better get (TEAM X) some points at the free throw line"

Karl Hess- "Did you see that? I didn't see that. I can't effin see anything with these glasses on. Wait, where are my glasses?"

Higgins- "Man, I really gotta take a deuce"

Higgins- Cats are still up despite all my terrible calls. I can’t wait until there is a play by the sideline. It will be out on UK no matter what. Also who is close to fouling out?

In all seriousness, I can’t imagine how often this kind of horse crap actually goes on in every sport. College basketball is especially bad though. How many times do they call things they know are just wrong because they want to “send a message” in one way or another?

This really does tie in to college basketball officiating. Difference is this dumb *** said it when he didnt think everyone could hear it. College officials in Kentucky games come in to games thinking this very thing and do it without telling everyone they are doing it.

Mics on college basketball refs wouldn't really help much. It's not like they are telling themselves why they are making nonsense calls. Head cams might be nice though, at least we can kind of see what they see.

What would help most is if they were forced to sit down in front of the media the way that players are so that they can answer for their "mistakes". True accountability is the only way things will ever get better.

Jamie Luckie: This is my game!
Still astounds me that this is a real quote! 🤦‍♀️
And his philosophy of giving “the little guy more latitude” and “being the difference between Elon losing to Duke by 20 and not 40” tells us that it’s not always about being fair for some refs. Did that mindset keep us from advancing in 2010 and 2018 (not to mention seeding in 2018)?

He was at a clinic teaching young referees this philosophy. It is likely that this is the thought process for all of them.

He should be there to make calls based on the rules provided by the NCAA and ensure the safety of the players. Anything else beyond that is hot garbage and done to feed the ego.

ROOFEREE INTERVIEW

This isn’t a hot mic, but an on-the-record interview with the Rooferee last fall.
https://art19.com/shows/the-nick-handley-show/episodes/9d8b4722-b91c-435a-b2b1-e5c8dfa126ad
A few notable quotes:

-Around the 7:45 mark talks about coaches without fan noise (says “you can’t to let any of ‘em embarrass ya.”)

-9:02 mark talks about the best venues (says hearing boos really gets him going, especially when he knows he’s right, which according to him, is about 90% of the time). Mentions The Phog first (no surprise! See his record there), Cameron, OSU, even mentions U6 is “fun” (who officiated the 2013 “Championship”?:>), but “I’m not going to say the other school in that state because I’m not, I’m not gonna say, I uh, can’t say much about THAT PLACE, so uh, ha ha ha....”
(10:45) Wouldn’t call any coaches out by name who are “intense,” but said you can “read between the lines.” Says he’ll probably write a book once he retires, and maybe throw a coach under the bus at that time.

AGREE! I could hardly believe some of the things he said! Praising Doug Shows for “hitting” well known coaches with Ts? Calling Cal “not normal”? It’s clear some of them follow their own rules, unfortunately.

We need a "hot mic" in the ref's dressing room as well.
Actually, I've seen very little to ever make me believe that college refs have any accountability whatsoever. Occasionally you'll hear of the league office admitting a ref made a bad call but, no suspensions or disciplinary action at all.
Just look at those three idiots that broke NCAA Covid protocol. Went to eat dinner together instead of remaining at the hotel per instructions. Their arrogant asses got sent home. We need MORE of those kind of ramifications for being crappy officials.

Matt Jones says he may someday write a book and include a whole chapter on the whole KSR vs. Rooferee thing as well.
I would NEVER give douchebag my money from buying his book but, I might buy MJ's after it goes on sale on the discount table. LOL!

One call that always gets me is the whistle right before a TV timeout. It always seems like someone picks up a “nickel dimer” for the sake of having a dead ball and going to a TV timeout. Has anyone else ever noticed this? It happens damn near every single game.

I watch a lot of basketball with all of these referees calling other teams games.

They are still bad, but they are not obviously biased like they are when they call UK games.

Cal is the big reason for us getting skewered by these egotistical referees who hate Cal because he shows them up and belittles them during the game on almost every call they make that doesn't go our way.

UK used to get all those 50/50 calls, especially at Rupp Arena BEFORE Cal got here. On most nights we got a very favorable whistle unless Paul Galvan was calling the game. So much so that Rupp Arena had the nickname of Rip Arena among some of our rivals.

Not any more. We don't even get a fair whistle, even in Rupp. Cal has alienated several powerful officials and has gained a reputation of being an ahole which has cost us several games since he has been here.

And please don't try to tell me referees don't pay any attention to Cal's screaming and stomping or that it somehow doesn't affect how they call the games.

I have friends who officiate at the college level and most officials are very sensitive to criticism over a call, especially when they miss a call. But they hate being called out for missing a call and most have a long memory.

UK can no longer expect a fair whistle in any game these officials call in because of their bad feelings toward Cal.

it seems that we ought to be able to demand that certain referees not be allowed to do our games. I am pretty sure that high school coaches have such an option. Yes, it might create animosity, but that seems to already be present.

I do notice this all the time. I think bad reffing is tied to gambling as well. You know some of the refs gamble on games/ have someone do it for them.

They should not be refs then if they can’t handle the heat get out of the kitchen. Do your job ya know.
