Cal has been very quiet lately

I figured he would be on TV doing analyst work and talking about how hard it is with Covid. Maybe he is back in the lab coming up with something that works.

I think he needs to hire a good "In Game" coach and then take lessons on how to listen to him.
I always wondered why more b-ball coaches don’t designate coordinators to concentrate on offense and defense plus a coach assigned to inbound plays etc. Saban does a great job in football giving his assistants their head and responsibilities.

Looks like Michigan’s Phil Martelli has a bunch of input on their o.

Cal seems to micro manage each trip on both ends of the floor. Use those assistants. Flint is capable. Barbee has been a HC. Who knows how good technically Justice and Lucas are in coordinating.

I saw a D1 HC talking about using his assistants as coordinators and said if he had a young Brad Stevens on his staff he would be an idiot not to utilize him to run his offense.

Cal has a few big tasks ahead of him: Adjusting his strategy to fit the evolving model, figuring out how to do it better than everyone else (or at least most everyone else), and how to do this while coming up with a face-saving way to promote and spin it. I think he can do it but does he want to at this point in his life? Retooling at this level is a tall order and is he fully invested in doing it considering his age and particularly his financial status?

Or perhaps looks at the funny section

It's humourous you know.

If we could stop hating on the man for 5 seconds and give him some small benefit of the doubt (no longer possible here, I know), we would all likely speculate what he's been busy doing. After the worst season in his own history as a coach and UK, he is likely working harder than ever before to correct the debacle that just happened, whatever it may take. Don't let me interrupt the dart throwing here, though. By all means, the intelligence displayed in this thread, and on this board, is truly breathtaking. 🙄

This board is now nothing more than an echo chamber of ignorance and intolerance. There are a few people who try to have good conversations, but they get drowned out by the ones who just have the need to be seen and heard because in the real world no one pays them any attention.

Then you have people like me who love piss them off more than they already are. But at least my intentions are well.
The thing I've experienced this season that never has happened before is so much anger, threats to put me on ignore, and being told I'm a jerk for simply disagreeing with the current narrative and daring to make an argument. Having an actual conversation about basketball never happens anymore. If you have hope for any future where Calipari is still the coach, well, you're an idiot. Wait, let me make this post acceptable- Cal should die a painful death! There, it's all better now. :D

This post conveys a similar message that Cal often delivers to the fan base: insult those who have a different take, and then expect them to agree with you because.......well because, they are of inferior intelligence.

Thanks for chuckle.....good one!

Unfortunately it is sad when reasonable adults can't discuss a topic. For example, if you post anything negative about a player or team's game then you are a hater. If you post anything positive about a player or team's game you are a homer. Let's be honest...both can be true. They are your team but a player has a deficiency but also has some skills.

I can be a UK fan and like somethings but not all.

But this is 2021 and social media has allowed people to become very brave and bold in what they say....from behind a keyboard. Sad!

It's really not much different than the Tubby wars on here, the only difference, as lazy as he became, Tubby never missed a NCAA tourney and was smart enough not to air his dirty laundry thru the media.

Don't know which is worse...

Cal's:

a. Loose tongue
b. Fragile ego
c. Inability to counter in-game adjustments

Hey Dayton, and what you did is simply deflect what I said instead of engaging it. If you want to be seen as intelligent, make an argument. When the attacks are unintelligent and just angry outbursts, there is nothing to discuss. I could just post one-liners like most do here. I try to put some thought into my posts. This all actually matters to me.

Cal is responsible for the worst season in UK history. Do you expect him to be shouting about it from the roof tops?

He is probably hunkered down with Ellen in a bunker beneath his house.

Help me here, as I frankly don't recall, but was Tubby often dismissive of the fan base, even to the point of mocking them?

Yep, I defended Tubby until about the middle of his final season when it became clear to me he needed to go. I'm not a wishy washy, fickle junior high kid who just reacts. When it becomes clear that Cal needs to actually leave, I will join the crowd asking for his ouster. We haven't arrived there as yet. Some have been ready for Cal to leave for 5 years now. If we made decisions based on the knee jerk reactions of some, we'd have a new coach every other season.

I proffer the opinion that it matters to most all of the folks offering opinions, one-liners or not.

As far as deflecting, I chose to address the message you conveyed, and not the messenger. Was the choice I made, instead of implying that your intelligence is average, at best.

I have a question if you care to give your opinion.....do you see any possible way out of this mess? I only see two options.

1) Dominate recruiting again. Get the best of the best every year. Guys that actually are worthy of one and done. Guys like Wall, Boogie, KAT, AD, Murray and many more. I can't see this happening since Cal has not gotten these guys in a while, but more importantly, they aren't going to be available now as the cream of the crop will all go to the G league.

2) Change the one and done style of recruiting. I honestly think Cal would change this if he could. Every guy that comes in now either heads to the NBA after a year (whether ready or not) or feels they have to transfer as they are going to get recruited over. I'm not sure how we keep people like Johnny Juzang going forward. I think kids with NBA aspirations are afraid they are viewed as a failure if they can't do it in a year at UK. The multi year guys either don't come or they leave.

I'd love to see something change but I just don't know how you can change recruits'/players' line of thinking with Cal at UK. I'm not sure this is fixable with the current landscape in college basketball.

Cal deserves zero pass for the way he handled Boston and Askew this season while we lost game after game after game. He wouldn’t even as much as try Mintz as the point or give Allen extended minutes.

Also, he gets no pass for making Allen his whipping boy in his press conferences, just because he was mad at the fanbase. He made an absolute *** of himself this year. He deserves every ounce of criticism he’s getting. Every single ounce.

So, your accusation is that I am accusing people who differ with me of having low intelligence. That is not the case. The reason they "appear" to be of low intelligence is because they are demanding Calipari be fired when it is clearly not reasonable. As I said above, there is a myriad of reasons why it is not happening. But what you've done here is decide to accuse me of insulting people rather than actually engaging in a conversation about why Cal should or shouldn't be fired today. We could talk about that if you like. I'd be happy to engage in more than one-liners, even.

Tubby got his big payday and then settled into deep mediocrity. He and Cal are similar in that both are stubborn to an absolute fault.

I do not believe Cal will change, I don't think his ego would ever allow for it.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Cal say or do something which would give UK just cause to wiggle out of the hideous contract Barnhart drew up.
