Shorts:

- Great piece on the Knicks, Wes, Quick and Julius.

- Still can’t believe the revelation Quick has been. What a kid.

- What former UK baller may coach Big Blue at some point? Pope? Rondo?

- Cal - get on the horn and lock up Justin Powell. Herro-lite.

- Speaking of shooters, my Dad randomly struck up a conversation at the hardware store yesterday with a guy who turned out to be Dontaie Allen’s uncle. Said he’s not going anywhere, and is committed to the program and getting better. Take it fwiw.

- Still can’t believe Rocket Ismael never became an NFL star.

- I enjoy NBA instagram accounts for stuff like Lamelo Ball highlights, but whenever someone hits any kind of clutch shot in any kind of game no matter how inconsequential, I have to scroll through the same 50 straight, “XXX CALLS GAME!” or “XXX is a different breed!!!!!” posts. Millennials are an unoriginal generation.

- I mean she’s not ugly by any means but I’ve never found Shailene Woodley particularly attractive either. Would expect more from one of the greatest QBs of his generation.

- Rewatched the last 6 of the Michigan 2014 game. Man, that was a classic- Aaron going 4-4 from three down the stretch, Poythress a complete animal, very few foul calls, great flow, the crowd shot after The Shot of Jaimanthony. What I wouldn’t do for a sprinkle of that magic dust starting tomorrow.

Rodgers clearly has a thing for petite brunettes who are solid 8.5s. To each their own, I guess, but if I was arguably the most valuable football player on the planet, I'd be slaying a much different category of women.

Different strokes for different folks, but I’d opt out of SS and Medicare in a hot second if I could keep the taxes, even if I didn’t see the employee portion reflected in my pay.
You should probably talk to your financial advisor about the wisdom of giving up SS and Medicare so you can keep 7.65% of your income. They would tell you honestly what I am thinking right now.

Why has the rolleyes emoji gone away?

Are you seriously going to try to argue that if someone simply put 7.65% of their gross income over their working lifetime in a generic index fund every month, that the wealth created would not (in all probability) vastly outweigh the benefit from social security and medicare?

I am my financial advisor and I'd give up every single government entitlement if I could keep the taxes from them. I'm fine paying for military or roads/bridges, but IDGAF about social security. The math says it will be gone before I'm eligible anyway, unless our payments into it go up significantly very soon.

For the majority of people yes. That's absolutely true. It also is risk free which is a massive benefit. The only real loss is for high earners on Medicare. Medical costs don't change so high earners do not receive as much benefit fromedicare as they put in. On SS you don't pay taxes on your additional earnings and you get benefits based on how much you made up to the max. It's hard to value the risk free part. With a private system people retiring in like 2000-2007 would have all been screwed.

We all get SS and Medicare and despite the people who supposedly hate socialism we all will enjoy it and get good mileage from it in the sunset of our lives.

We don't " get" Ss and medicare. We pay into it, and 50 years down the road the government gives SOME of it back to us without any interest from them using it for 50 years. It was set up because most Americans are too stupid to save for retirement on their own. I'm not surprised that you like it and don't understand it.

March Facebook Memories really get to me, and there are so many of them to scroll through nearly daily.

Pretty amazing how many good times we've have had following the Cats, home & away, over the years during this magical month.

Noted, Hatboggan. This year has been miserable basketball-wise and I am happy to see it go. I don't want my Grinch attitude to be a downer for people who are excited to watch the Cayts laced 'em up in March.

dgtau, the return rate on social security is negative. The government confiscates people's money because a certain percentage of the population is too dumb to save for old age and then pays it back to everyone who works at a rate of return that is less than what they put in.

You can argue whatever you want to but (a) you're wrong and (b) your entire premise is based on the view that people are idiots and need the government to do things for them because they aren't capable of taking care of themselves. While true for some -- people like 80 and FTB are more than capable of looking after themselves without have 8% of their income stolen every year on a vague promise that it will be worth it when they get old.

-Olivia Munn is dope but Danika and that other chick are marginal, at least for his level.

-Near 70 next 2 days. Leggo.

-Powell would be a dope addition. I'm much happier with transfer scrounging than elite freshman but I'm more concerned with keeping our current elite talent in the program to develop.

-Made a point of really upping protein intake and adding a myprotein shake. IMO, made a big difference in my bounce back. I'm pretty happy with the prepped meals I've been buying. They match the macros you want, if that's your thing, but as cheap($11) as they are it keeps me taking in a good meal with lots of protein. Taste is pretty hit or miss, but whatever, if they suck I just dose with tabasco. 450 calories with like 30g of protein in most cases.

-Major Tee Ball is about to kick off. LFG. Caint wait. Picked up a stud utility player in 40proof, we'll have him hitting the fence by mid-season.

-Meh, 9-15 with enough frustrations to fill a decade. Put this puppy down, bring back a load of players, and let's move on.

- NKYballs who are in the prepped meal market, a friend of mine runs Dinner to Doorbells and it's pretty delicious. Clutch for the weeks I'm short on time (read: short on willpower to cook my own food)

- Adding collagen powder to coffee in the morning (it sounds gross, but I promise it's tasteless and not grainy) is also a good way to get in an extra protein serving without noticing.

- Amped to see GYERO kicking *** in the gym. Proud of y'all. Now go hit a set of squats and calf raises to avoid chicken leg syndrome. I've been on a tear of PRs damn near weekly, may all GYEROers enjoy the good gym juju.

- Anyone hating on March has the worst takes of all time. This weather, the sunshine, the basketball buzz, the memories of heart attacks from Marchs past...man, BIG spring in my step lately. I've been taking multiple walks a day and it's done wonders for my mental state.

- As someone who won't see a dime from SS or Medicare, yeah, I'd gladly have all that in my paycheck and invest it. Why the hell would I want to dump more of my money into the bloated corpse of the US government, again?

- This is Van Halen weather. RIP Eddie.

- Yesterday would have been the 32nd birthday for the friend who passed after a heart attack in November. Life is devastatingly short.

Response to WCC's excellent post:
  • Rondo is one of my favorite players and I absolutely think he's a basketball savant, but he strikes me as a guy who would be a terrible coach. LT always said he couldn't coach because he could never understand why others couldn't see / do what he saw and did. I feel like Rondo would get frustrated by lesser basketball minds in this respect, get frustrated, and smack his PG in the face after calling him a stupid p*ssy.
  • Was way out ahead on Quickley being good. He had the perfect modern NBA game. Great range, knows how to get to the line, understands defensive rotations... for some reason I did underestimate his size and athleticism - clearly he has what it takes.
  • Ismail reminds me of Reggie Bush. I thought both of the dudes were going to be world class in the NFL. Clearly there's something else that's required to be an NFL superstar, cause those guys had speed and skill for days.
  • Millennials are not unoriginal. That's a worn out take and you should know better. They are all unicorns and you should respect that. I just destroyed you!

I'm all in on the Cats tomorrow at noon. I'll be excited if we win, and pissed if we lose.

All you hosers acting like you don't care are just typical fairweather fans. Lots of "superfan" credentials are being revoked.

-yep. Mad at Cal/disillusioned with the state of the program...but its March and im gonna hope/root my *** off for my squad. What do I have to lose?

Trayce Jackson-Davis & Patterson's careers at the same stage are strikingly similar.

Dude is an absolute stud, playing for a **** coach & team his 1st 2 seasons. Dominates, but still considered too passive for his talent, and is really nowhere to be found on Draft Boards despite being 3rd Team AA & a Top 3 player in the Big 10.

Only thing left for him to do is add a perimeter shot, like Patterson, as a Jr. Definitely hope he bounces tho.

~ Old Marine roommate would always say, "piss poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine." Also, "if you're gonna hoot with the owls, you gotta soar with the eagles.". Smart guy. A little nuts but figure all jarheads have to be.

~ Mom's favorite player was Grevey, dad's was Goose. Don't think anyone could replace my childhood Mashburn mancrush.

~ Have to keep the beard short and the head shaved to stave off the grays.

~ Huel looks like I'd ish myself the rest of the day. Hard pass.

~ Queue up the Antoine Dodson wodie pic from The Stage 🤩

~ These Big Bird legs pressed 990 on the sled this am. Twenty two 45# plates if you're keeping score at home. Calves just don't grow.

~ Rumor is an esteemed poster has really upped his workout routine in '21 and will be poised to turn some milfs heads in the Hamptons this summer.

~ The way for SSI to be around for those of us in our early 40's and under is for Uncle Sam to adjust the payout bands. Right now it's 70 for max benefit. But in '22 the IRS is adjusting the mortality table since folks are living longer and IRA RMD's were just increased to 72, so you can bet they will push ssi benefits to reflect accordingly.

Another way to put it is more people will pay in and not get their fair cut before they pass, thus "sustaining" the bloated, outdated program.

~ Re: VH - 'Fair Warning' has been in the rotation for a few weeks. If that band could have an underrated album, that's it.

~ More Eagle and Harlan, less Nantz.

~ Hitting up a CATS bar down here tomorrow to get a pseudo SECT experience, minus the crew 😥

-It finally feels like we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with Covid (hopefully). I've been taking advantage of the weather and it seems as though many in Newport are doing the same. It's refreshing to see more and more people enjoying drinks on the patio and walking about.

-March is easily my favorite month of the year due to the impending weather change, plants starting to sprout, conference tourneys/NCAA tournament, selection Sunday, Spring Training in the MLB, practice reports from the football team where everyone is getting "bigger, stronger, faster."

In essence, March has always been filled with optimism from me.

-I haven't been able to partake in any cannabis for the past few weeks due to getting a job offer. It really sucks that a combat veteran does not have legal access to marijuana...it's much better than the legal alternative of alcohol or the 5 different medications that I'm prescribed for PTSD/Insomnia/Depression.

-I've been watching a lot of stand-up lately, Mitch Hedberg is definitely in my top 3 - I've been watching everything I can find from him over the past few days.

"I used to do drugs, I still do, but I used to too."

-Speaking of weed, our greenhouses in Colorado that I was working on/invested in are almost complete, both have an 1,800 plant capacity and we should have our first crop by late June. The initial plan is to harvest about 50 lbs per week once we get things dialed in.

-There's no such thing as a former Jar Head - "Once a Marine, always a Marine."

But yeah, we are a crazy group for the most part.

-Done rambling.

Aiko Tanaka has a similar style to Hedberg. Obviously no one will ever be Mitch Hedberg, but she's pretty hysterical if you like that style of witty nonsequitars, etc.
