It was hard to do, but I watched the game again this morning. A lot of things stood out, but the biggest was effort. That was not the only thing, but it was the biggest. We were out rebounded 38 to 23, by players who were shorter then us. White is 6'8" and he had 10 rebounds, Buffen is 6'7" and he had 10 rebounds, Rodriguez is 6'6" and he had 8 rebounds. Those three players out rebounded our team by 5 rebounds. Sarr, a 7 footer, had 3 rebounds, YES, a measly 3 rebounds.
Old Miss had twice as many TO's as UK, 14 to 7, and we had one more Assist then Ole Miss. I thought I heard the announcers say Ole Miss was not a good three point shooting team. If you don't guard a player, most of them can hit a three. We make good three point shooters, out of bad three point shooting teams.
Askew had 0 Assists, and 0 points. I will never understand why Cal doesn't move Mintz to Point Guard. The other thing I don't understand, is, when you need points, why do you have Allen on the bench. I wonder if Cal ever heard of running a player off more then one screen, to get him open. We needed points in the last 10 minutes. The game was there for taking, but we still had Boston shooting, but not hitting. Cal has a player who should be a Senior in High School, trying to run a Division One team. Is he out of his mind? I can answer that, YES!
Some poster who love Cal more then UK, will post about how we have lost close games, and with a little luck, we would have won. As I've said before, Losers always have excuses. Well, this was an excellent example of being out coached. We were in the game until the last 4 minutes, then coaching took over. Cal looked like a "Deer in the head lights," and all he could do, was jump up and down, and scream like a monkey. If watching him try to coach, and still think he is a good coach, then you don't know basketball. He won the first 6 years with the BEST players in college, and even then he got out coached. An example is the first year against West Virginia. He is still getting more talent then most teams, but his lack of coaching ability has caught up with him the last 5 or 6 years. We had more talent then Old Miss, but they had better coaching and more heart.
I don't dislike Cal. I have NO feeling for him, either way. I'm just willing to face the fact, that he is not a good coach. He's done a great job selling himself, to a lot of fans, the AD, and a lot of good players. The last 6 years, should have told a lot, but to a lot of fans, they can't stand the truth, which is their choice. They will criticize a lot of us, because we love UK, not Cal, and we don't drink the Kool Aid.
OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
