If UK beats UF Saturday I still see a path to an NCAA at large bid

Let me explain:

UK would not only be on a nice 4 gm win streak but would have defeated back to back top 25 teams in UT and UF.

Furthermore, we would have 4 Quad 1 wins over LSU, UT and UF x 2.
Also, we have very few “bad” losses.

Our SOS is still top 10 at 7 and should stay there or move up slightly after Sat. as UF is ranked #27 via KP:

Now, a win Sat puts UK at 9-13 and we still have at Ole Miss a top 50 team as well as 2 very winnable SEC makeup games in South Carolina and Texas AM both in Ky.

Win all three of them and suddenly UK is not only 12-13 but is on an impressive 7 game win streak headed to Music City for the SECT.

Go 3-1 in the SECT and we finish 15-14 with a SOS undoubtedly in the top 10 nationally
while finishing the season 10-1.

Mitch who is the NCAA selection committee chair will see to it that UK dances.
Not gonna happen. And Mitch has no say on anything UK related in regards to the tournament.

One thing to remember about UK getting in, the BBN.

We are nuts, crazy, over-the-top, filled with clowns, trolls, and goofs. But, we watch more than anyone else in America.

Those Dayton games don't get the best ratings. Put UK in the late night as a 12 play-in and you get MANY more viewers than anyone else.

I think we get a play-in even if we pull it off at the SECT.
Respectfully disagree. They will not put a sub-.500 UK team in the field. Incredibly unlikely a .500 team gets in, either.

It’s a stretch. A big one. And I know the SC game has had been rescheduled, but has the A&M one? When? It would have to be like 2 days before the SECT. I’m taking it one game at a time. Just because we beat Florida by 18 I don’t assume a win tomorrow. I don’t assume anything this season.

You dont have to assume UK has won 3 straight and had the best team IMHO in the SEC Arkansas beat with 5 tics left.

You dont have to assume we throttled then #19 UT in Knoxville by 15 and that the game was over at halftime.

Oh and if we play one more make up game it will be next Thursday.

You dont have to assume to realize UK is playing their best basketball right now and are home to Florida tomorrow.

All of that is factual.

Good day.

This is actually an interesting discussion.

There is precedent for teams getting in with slightly above .500 or even at .500!

The problem is UK would have to get to Sunday of SECT to even be considered. If we had more games, then we could get to .500 before the SECT, but that is not going to happen either due to SEC scheduling rules or Cal's reluctance.

If, and I mean IF, UK were to make it to Sunday...

The Cats would have a very compelling at large case providing the Cats win out until that point:
  • SOS would be top 5
  • Handful of Quad 1 wins (most away from home)
  • Zero bad losses according to committee (no losses in quad 3 or 4)
  • Player injuries and cancelled games would be taken into account
  • Our NET would be hovering in the mid 30s or possibly higher
If UK is sitting somehow at 14-13 on selection Sunday... they will be considered.

Worthy? Probably not.

However, this is a really bad bubble.

IIRC, in 1985 UK was 18-13 and barely got in as a 12 seed.

Don't see how 15-14 gets UK in unless UK is the 16th seed or one of the last four in.
To many other teams without 13 losses......no at large bid period.

Great post except we are worthy, if we go on a legendary run to get to Selection Sunday.
Having Mitch as Chair might actually put UK over the top!
How’s that for drama!!!

I think they would let you in at .500 or better with an SECT final game appearance due to the late season streak and schedule.
Gator, I tend to agree. Plus we have had a ton of close Ls and don't really have a terrible loss in the bunch.

Id say good luck to you today but Id be lying. Classy post and I think this game today is going to be another one or two possession barn burner.

What else is new?

It probably will be close but I think KY is going in pretty confident. We could win if Mann and Castleton really show up but I have a bad feeling about this game and a loss here will make it really hard for us to get that 5 or 6 seed I am hoping we can play our way into.

Player injuries??

They are not considered unless the injured player is key and has returned.

I guess it could be possible if they won every single game and then lost in the SEC finals.

Too bad they lost 3 games by 1 point and another against Louisville at the last second on an in and out ball.

If you give them 3 of those 4 wins they for sure could got at large with a good late run and had they won all 4 they probably would be right on the cut line in or out right now.

Really just needed a couple of those guys who didn't get drafted to have come back that early season experience probably the difference in that 1-6 start.

Losing that Texas chance at home because of a very brief pause at UK was a killer. A lose would meant about nothing as Kentucky pretty much not getting at large most likely anyway but had they won that game they would have had a legit shot at at large bid if they had won out regular season and made it to semi finals of SEC tournament.

IF we win all the way to the SECT finals and lose, we are 14-14. absolutely brain dead if you think that makes an at large bid without lots of teams pulling out of the tournament

I see some bumping the thread, but I don't think today changes a bunch. At best, maybe you could say winning out would have meant only needed to make the conference championship if one of the wins came against Bama or Arkansas. But my opinion is they had to win the SEC Tourney anyway.
Obviously still do now with the 'L' today.

So much for the SECT bye. 3 games next week and more the following week in order to get a NCAAT bid.

I still think they could have won the SEC if they got a bye but 4 games in 4 days and nobody opting out. It's over. They can't beat Bama. Bama have to get beat.
