Remove the charge call.
Punish flopping.

If Kentucky ever plays a basketball game without its fans thinking the refs are against them then you have a real story.
Kill the ones we've got and start over again. they're hopeless
Implement a better review system. Let coaches challenge calls, 1 or 2 a game.
How many blatantly bad calls happened in the last 5 games? Were talking 10 or 12. Let coaches challenge which will help stop officials from determining the outcome.

It doesn’t without some kind of accountability. I don’t know if that is through post game pressers or grading them and posting it after the game. Something drastic, otherwise they are out there to add to the show, keep games close and play the Vegas lines.

They are either blatant cheaters or just totally incompetent and it’s not just for UK. I watch a lot of other leagues and they are horrible across the board.
Accountability. Hit their wallets. Points system on bad calls. Reviewed by a director as well as coaches. Enough points against them and they lose X number of games.
Shock collars. Every time an official makes a bad call, a coach can zap him. Then the call will be reviewed. If it was a good call, then the coach has to take a shock. If it was a bad call, the dial on the collar is turned up a notch.
Correct. Isn't it odd that adding the 3rd official and instant replay has made the officials a part of the game/more relevant. Used to be when officials were hardly ever talked about you new they had called a good game. Saw some figures that the SEC has had more fouls called, by far, than any other conference. Conference to Conference the game is called differently, no standard by the NCAA. NCAA tourney games are tough on the players always having to adjust. How many games are decided because the best players set on the bench in foul trouble robbing fans, players, teams and tv audiences the best possible games.
Fine refs for bad calls. Also, have a system where the most accurate officials get to call the F4 games and get paid very lucratively for those games as a reward for good work throughout the season. Make their rankings public throughout the year for transparency.
He's probably too busy looking at their football team's spring roster than waste time watching that second sport. What's a baskeeebaw anyway?
After reading Ron Luciano's The Umpire Strikes Back, I don't know why anyone would ever want to be an umpire/referee. It really struck me when Luciano wrote "Umpiring is best described as the profession of standing between two seven-year-olds with one ice cream cone. Every decision you make is going to anger half the people."
I think the highest grades officials do get to advance to the tourney games. I’ll remind you that Higgins called a title game and elite 8 game for us, so that’s a guy who apparently grades out as one of the best. Not exactly inspiring stuff
In theory sure but do you think Shows or Pat Adams going over to police themselves would work? It would have to be remote like the NFL.
He was graded well enough from the UNC game to go forward to the F4. It is all a joke.
That arc under the basket needs to be moved way out. It’s beyond clear the charge/block call involving secondary defenders simply can not be officiated correctly. In truth, when you watch the replays, they’re almost all blocks.
It kills me when a offensive player leans in or puts their should into the defensive player and the defender gets called for a foul most of the time or when a shooter kicks their leg out and hits the defender who is going by them on their side and the defender is called for a call- looks obviously on TV what the call should be but I guess not
Automation. An array of cameras that cover the court and action. AI algorithms that see the action and make the call.
The question is who grades them? Seems to be the same college administrators who hire them in the first place. How much they actually know about officiating is questionable IMO.

I hear the suggestion to remove the charging call but I have no idea why anyone would want that. Without the possibility of a charge then the game is completely different. It would be just like fooball. Get the biggest and strongest player you can find and have him bully his way to the basket. That's not basketball, not sure why any basketball fan would want that?
As far as punishing flopping and holding refs more accountable to the media and fans, I'm all for that. In fact I put together a proposal for just that a number of years ago.
I'm all for fixing officiating and think there's a lot that needs to be done, but IMO this isn't a good example to use. While I understand many people are unhappy with the call and it wiped out an awesome dunk, it was a correct call based on the current rules.
#1^^^^^^^ remove the charge. This is so subjective and hard to call most of the time. I hate the fact that a player can just stop and get a call. Thas is not basketball

He was getting set after Brooks jumped. In both ways it was a bad call, But it was close. When it is close like that it either needs to be a no call or a block. IMO it should've been a play on

The Vandy player established legal guarding position (just) before Brooks jumped, which is what is required by the rule book. (And the rule book specifically states that there’s no time or distance requirement.]
It is true the Vandy player went vertically up on his toes during the play while Brooks was in the air but that’s allowed.

One change is definitely like to see beyond calling technicals for flops. I’d like to see a change where if a player snaps his head as if he was hit by an opponent which prompts a video review, if it’s determined the player was faking getting hit in the head, then it’s an automatic technical. Tired of seeing that all the time.

Looks like a tie on that play with the feet. Brooks starts to jump as the Vandy guy lands in front of him. Brooks had no chance to avoid him with how late the Vandy player arrives.
The Vandy guy has to straighten up as Brooks was in the air and the Vandy guy was on his toes making himself flop back from the contact. It should be like in baseball where if the runner and the ball get to the base at the same time the offensive player gets the call.
