What ever happened to Freddie Cowens and Larry Johnson?
Yeah, no idea.

But I do remember sitting in that gym one year and watching Travis Ford dump nearly 50 pts on us, then the same year, Calbert Cheaney dunking so hard he nearly pulled the backboard off the ceiling (scoring 47 or something crazy).

WV was fun to watch. Didn't know the kid was form KY, great shooter. WV point guard was real pointy.

The announcers did say he was from "Union, KY", which as you know is in N. KY (Boone Co.).

Did you catch any Cooper HS games when McNeil was there?

Yes, coached against him at the high school level. Big strong guard, could get to the rim. His jumper, really opened up the defense for his teammate Kunkel (Xavier). That team was loaded, had a couple d1 baseball players and a d1 football player. His senior season ended in a loss in the state finals against Bowling Green.

Lot of good players in that game. Just don’t see why UK doesn’t take a great shooter from KY, I can even understand not taking em in high school but they got a second chance and still didn’t take em.

He along with his teammate Kunkel are just examples of scorers/shooters that if Cal is serious and recognizes that he has to change, he will go after McNeil and Kunkel types in the future. We have a bunch of those types lining up right now in the sophomore class...I am very happy for McNeil and Kunkel but it makes me depressed seeing these kids and others playing elsewhere.

Will Cal go the route of Sabin and Stoops and change with the times to be better? I sure as hell hope so.

Mc Neil is a decent player, but the kid who would make this team a totally different team is the WVU PG Miles Mc Bride. We recruited him(UK) , but as a QB out of Cincinnati Moeller. He is tough, skilled and smart and makes his teammates better.

I think he is a junior...think with COVID and this year not counting on eligibility that after snubbing Hollingsworth, Powell, McNeil, and Kunkel that we they could be apologized to and all transfer to UK and be eligible for next year?

You add that group...all fundamentally sound basketball players...with whoever returns and the athletes that Cal has committed next and that could be a pretty strong ball club.

Well there ya go. There’s been a total of 3 non KY recruits by Calipari that even saw a junior season that didn’t have to return due to injury. In 11 seasons. Lee, Poythress, and Richards. They’re a little rare. Cool story though. Glad he’s ballin.

I know his father Well. Very very good HS PLAYER Mid D1 offers wanted better, went juco rout blew up.
VIRGINIA and many others offered but family loved HUGGINS. Kansas made a pass but he knew WVA with Huggins was the pick, not even a peep from us.

Of course there wasn’t. Every UK Coach before Cal would have recruited him
