News Flash This Season Is Not The Problem

This season was supposed to be the solution.

We’ve gotten mediocre results from every season since our 2015 run. Nothing to add to that but ifs and buts.

This season was supposed to be a long fast athletic team of skilled players and distributed decent shooting (due to Cal’ supposedly recruiting shooters now) with two top 10 wings to give us back those Wall/Cousins cheat code powers and a Nick Richards upgrade (Sarr) and a poor man’s Anthony Davis (Jackson) inside just to guarantee no one else even had a chance against us because that’s the break we deserved after five straight years of expensive ******** results.

It doesn’t matter how many ways you justify this team being bad. This teamed needed to be more than just not bad. This team NEEDED to be extra good for a reason. Because there was ALREADY a problem.

Now the cure turns out to be much worse than the disease in terms of:

—Actual player college basketball skills
—Offensive scheme
—Substitution patterns
—Kenny Payne leaving
—Partisan politics coming at us from our head coach

With few indications any of those particular things are likely to get better going forward.

That’s why so many people are so mad.

It’s really not just about us sucking this year. You can stop trying so hard to justify us sucking this year. We sucked in 2013 and everyone was 100% behind Cal just unhappy about the single season. This situation is not that. At all. This situation is different. Much different.

There is no defending this season... the prior 5, mediocre for all is a bit of a stretch. They were 130-39, 77%, 2 heartbreaking EE losses, 2 mediocre teams and one last year that was 25-6 at end of regular season.

That is far from mediocre.

Tubby's last 5 was actually a little better than Cal's last 5.That tells you all you need to know.

No Final 4’s in a 5 year span is the definition of mediocrity for University of Kentucky basketball as far as I’m concerned. Pretty sure they don’t hang participation banners in Rupp.

Tubby was 131-40 his last 5....very similar. Of course we didn't play an SEC or NCAA tourney last season either. Tubby also had two subpar seasons in a row...Cal is having a historically bad season obviously.

Yes and now that you’ve finally seen the light on Cal’s mediocrity, understand that no one’s bashing Cal for his mediocre stretch anymore than we’ve bashed Rupp for his mediocre stretches.

But Cal followed up his mediocre stretch with fan bashing, virtue signaling, playing favorites even worse than usual, and a single-season record far worse than anything Rupp ever served up.

You do realize that 8 of 17 of our FFs have occurred in the past 18 seasons right? There is no rhyme or reason to our average, they are comprised of epic runs.

12 of our 17 Final Fours have come in 5-6 year runs in different decades...

Rupp 42-51/ 4
Pitino Tubby 93-98/ 4
Cal 11-15/4

The other 5 are gapped FF's...there is no pattern other than what is described above.

Lol stop making us cal bashers look retarded. The fox team was one of the best uk teams of the past 40 years. 2019 was also a really good team. 2020 was trending toward a 2 seed and that is right in the mix. Stop lieing to yourself

not seeing how there was already a problem. we were one of the hottest teams in the country to end last year. we’re in the elite eight 2 of the previous 3 years. why wouldn’t their be a drop off after 2015? they were 38-1 accomplished by exactly zero other teams in cbb history.

We are 22&22 against ranked teams since 2015 . We have 1 win over a P5 conference in the ncaa tournament since 2015 so we’ve basically lost to the first good team we’ve played all but 1 year .Kansas, Tennessee, and now Auburn have all made us their ***** .

Just being a Bengal and Reds fan tells me you don’t mind mediocrity. I’d imagine if UK basketball just has winning seasons you’d be tickled to death.

literally it’s not being in the ff, that’s it. it’s all based on that and it was broadly accepted with early season losses because it happened twice early in ‘11 and ‘14. lately it’s been the elite eight. if you don’t think the elite eight is “in position” than you’re going to be south on cal. but to think there’s no other argument or case to be made is absurd. elite eights are the reason we have the most tournament wins and are ranked #1 on all the major media’s all-time lists. most recently by cbs it was pretty much the separator. it also is a more realistic expectation on a year to year basis. basically the initial narrative that something is wrong isn’t based on something cal did, it’s a change of these fans expectations.

we were losing at home and in the early season and sec each year but ‘10 and ‘12. and people were fine with it because we were going to ff’s. so that’s it. cal didn’t change anything or fall off. people were making the jeff capel point for like 5 years on here and suddenly you won’t hear if it. so it’s changes in your expectations or being spoiled by the multiple ff’s early. one or the other. did we all see multiple championships and share in the regret that it’s 1? yes. is that an unrealistic expectation? yeah, it probably is. a lot of you need to step back.

we had more seasons with those losses before 2015. and it was cool then. it’s a failing argument.

talking about ‘11, ‘13, ‘14. which by math is more than the other way around (‘10, ‘12) before 2015. so my point stands and during the cal era.

I said the kid was lazy n u could tell it by watching him walk. Looked like it hurt to take a step. He was pudgy and soft. He became a brute under cal though

Dude you act as if auburn was at a disadvantage by not having this kid. It's probably the sole reason the game was even close. If they had their complete lineup the 2 guards wouldn't have had to be so much of a factor and we would have dominated like we did all year against them. Those kids were playing for him. That argument is like saying we've had more 5star recruits, we should have 4 titles. Doesn't hold much weight.

Just another lame attempt to bash a solid season
