When will Cal realize it? His stuff is old and way outdated.

Down 19 and this dude is posting Jackson while Alabama is spreading the court and hitting threes.

Look at the stuff Alabama was running. Look at what Gonzaga is doing. Look what Michigan is doing, look what Texas is doing. Auburn is supposed to suck, but watch what they do to us on Saturday. Even in a down year, they will run us off the court and we have pros (yeah right).

I just can't believe Cal is still running this offense. No high ball screens for shooters, no back cuts, very little pick and pop, I mean, it's the same crap every year and it's not going to work. He has posted Jackson 30 times this year and Jackson has yet to score.

Every year, "we have to get these guys going", I didn't see Alabama or Michigan "have to get guys going" tonight, in fact, Alabama was down 3 key players tonight and still kicked our asses.

Well, Cal gets another shot at Alabama, but his canned offense isn't going to get it done. He needs to come with something else or we'll lose by more than 20.

Did not get to see the game last night, thought we might lose this one, but when I read the paper this morning all I could say was WOW. What the hell happened.

Yep. I’m still convinced that was the detriment to that great 2015 team. Cal fell in love with posting KAT. Yes, it worked beautifully against ND, because they weren’t that big inside.

Look at the game before that, against WVU. KAT scored 1 point and we won by 39! Then against Wisconsin, we played through the post and didn’t spread them out. We played a slow, methodical game. The exact pace Wisconsin wanted to play.

That team was at its best when we weren’t running our offense through the post. Games like UCLA, KU and UNCheat come immediately to mind. We played a more free flowing offense and let the ball fly from outside.

The later the season went, the slower we played and the more we played through KAT. He fell in love also with getting KAT drafted #1, instead of spreading the floor. We played a half court offense with THAT team! Unreal.

Another problem with that is KAT is a generational scorer at the center position. It makes sense to post him because he can actually do it. Jackson, Ware, Toppin, and even Sarr to an extent are not back to the basket players. It’s pounding the square peg into the round hole over and over expecting it to eventually work.

Towns isn’t even a post up dominant player in the league. All the best scoring centers from KAT, Jokic, Embiid, and AD can all shoot and create off the dribble.

Cal has turned into UK’s Denny Crum. Remember when Crum refused to embrace the 3 point shot and was determined to keep his system? Cal is going through the same type of thing now.

You are dead on correct. Man, it’s painful watching Sarr attempting to post up and our players failing miserably at the post entry feed. Nearly 100% of the time! It’s just mind boggling.

You sure she didn’t say “our bread looks stale, our offense looks like complete s#!%”?
It does look like complete ****. It’s the same old dribble, dribble, dribble and go, late in the show clock, with a weave thrown in here or there. That, or a damn failed post up attempt. Rinse and repeat.

Like someone posted earlier, you never see any high screens, back cuts or back screens. If you do, it’s very rare. We just don’t create nearly enough scoring opportunities. Frustrating.

EVERYBODY played well against Florida.
NOBODY played well tonight.
Jackson, maybe.
We couldn't guard them and they were on fire from three.
I thought we'd turned the corner, but this was a setback.
Bama was the better team.
Better athletically and better shooters.

That is a big part of this topic. Fact is on all levels there still is a lot of physicality allowed in the post while perimeter guys can barely be touched. That factors into why the game has changed. Meanwhile we play two bigs that can neither post nor much of an outside threat.

This is just not a good basketball team. Nobody that can get a basket when they have to have one.
Askew is playing much better but still isn't able to break down the defense, penetrate, and either score or or dish the ball.
Sarr struggles to finish when someone is actually able to get him the ball.
Cal still starting Boston is mind boggling and fuels the feeling that it's only because he has NBA potential (I have yet to see it).

Yeah and some people on here think Cal is changing. Not even close.
I see major issues ahead for this program. I don't think Cal knows how to change or what to change.

The kind of ball that comes to my mind dates back to 2012 the game against Indiana.... would love if we played that way

The fact that Florida eeked by Ole Miss at home after trailing all game long, is telling. They are not a good team and are easy to dominate if you have size, but Cal's stuff is too predictable and Alabama beat us at every aspect of the game, while Cal had no answers for anything.

@irishcat1965 is right, Cal has turned into Denny Crum.

Coaching certainly is a major factor for this team, as a complete regression like this should not happen after the first of the year. Like many have said, this team is just not clicking, and we don’t have the guards (Askew will be there in time) to make this system even manageable. As a fan base we really need to just write this season off and pray Cal has a come to Jesus moment over the summer and changes his in game approach. If not, it will be rinse and repeat, and it will soon be the end of the Cal era

Sarr backed the guy who hurt his knee down to the baseline and our guys still wouldn't pass him the ball. He had a sure 2 points because the guy was hopping on 1 foot and we didn't even attempt to get it to him. So they finally fouled us to stop the game. That should tell you all you need to know about the hero ball they played last night.

Seven threes a game max. That is the way to victory.

Defense is the issue.[laughing]

That's what they told me.

Clearly of all offensive options throwing into to Jackson in the post on anything other than a lob is the last option that should happen. Jackson is going to be great but he clearly can not pass out of the post.

It boggles my mind that we got it down to 12 with 5 minutes left and kept going to Jackson in the post.
The only shot we had was the 3 ball and we have several shooters that can do it. One is an elite shooter.
Why not, we weren't getting rebounds anyway. Alabama outrebounded us and it's because the ball came bouncing back to the outside since their shots were taken from further away.
Cal's canned offense expired many years ago, but this is all he knows.

What about your down 12 at the half, get the ball and immediately try and jam it in the post to Sarr and commit 2 straight turnovers. People realize that Cal and staff had all of half time to draw that up and that was the game plan?!

Seems as though this happens to all the legends (of every sport). They get to the mountain top doing things a certain way and don’t want to change. As a result the game ultimately passes them by. You rarely see legends of any sport go out on top. They’re usually forced out because everyone but them can it doesn’t work anymore.

It’s all he CHOOSES to know. He will put trying to showcase kids talent (pun intended) over winning every day and twice on Sunday. I know, I’ve seen him do it. So has everyone here, they just don’t want to believe it.

I keep telling myself this team is so young. Give them time. But they run no offense at all. That is on the coaching staff. Looks like Helter skelter to me. They hardly ever feed the post at all. Sarr hasn’t shown much all year. I played basketball myself and have watched for over forty some years and this team just does not have any offensive identity. Even when they set a pick, they roll the wrong way and turn their back to the ball. That is fundamentals and they should know better than that at this time in their basketball career. We will just have to endure this season because it is going to be a long one.

Hey Jeff, where has the pretend cop been for the last 2 weeks? Ever since our Louisville loss he's been missing.
