Cal has done enough to earn not being fired or burned at the stake or whatever. However he lost enough over the last 5-6 years and especially as bad as we look this year that he doesn't get to have his buddies on staff anymore. Tony Barbee, Bruiser, Robic, bye bye. If he balks at that then tell him bye bye too. Cal has to bring in some modern thinkers who understand the analytics of basketball and put in a real offense and recruit guys that fit it and can play. Cal if he can get back to big swinging dick status is a great figure head for the program. What we need though is the nuts and bolts under the hood and that's what great assistants are.

He needs to keep Lucas and ditch everyone else. Bring in the top available assistants. but that’s step 2, after the season.

step 1 is disheartening but honestly this season is toast. That means Cal needs to set his eyes on improving next years squad. That means playing the guys who will be here and filling out his recruiting class.

I’d run. Mintz at the point and have Devin back him up. Devin starts next year if Mintz doesn’t use his free year.

Give Allen and Fletcher at least 15 min a game. Boston and Clarke aren’t 30+ min players. I’d like to see them get 20.

start Sarr and Jackson and have Toppin and Ware spell them out. Toppin and Ware get 10-15 min minimum.

gotta keep guys relatively happy. I’m not one for coddling these guys but a lot of the minutes are going to guys who don’t deserve it. That and the guys on our bench are who you build up into productive upperclassmen. You don’t get productive upperclassmen when they spend every game collecting dust. They need game minutes to get used to the spotlight so they can lead eventually.

this team has no leader. And that’s in large part due to only having Brooks back who hasn’t played at all this year and didn’t play much last year.

AGREE 100%. I would love for Cal to figure this out and be continue to be successful here. To me that doesn’t mean NCAA title or bust. Doesn’t mean Final 4 or bust. But his record the last 5 years or so against Top 20 teams as well as our main rivals outside of Louisville needs to improve. He needs to be willing to change. Like in the Saban thread, Saban has evolved and understands the game has changed to heavily favored offense in both football and basketball. Cal needs to adjust and value players who can score the ball in a manner that does not simply rely on raw athletic ability.

Agree 100% about running and minutes. If you're going to recruit based on athleticism and length, use it. And you absolutely have to play everyone at least 10 mins to keep them around

we said that about Tubby... that he needs to be forced to get rid of buddies that were terrible assistants.... and according to some insiders, the year Mitch finally put the foot down, Tubby just left... refused to change. Cal seems like the same type of guy.... he'd leave before firing friends.

and also Tubby never went to the NIT or went 1-5 or had a 5 loss streak. .. so if he could be pressured out...... sure as sh*t Cal can. unfortunately cant fire him without owing 20 million plus buyout.

Nope. He clearly doesn't know how to run the UK program. It's not the assistants' fault. They didn't hire themselves.

Pretty sure toppin and ware played more minutes than sarr and Jackson against unc. But at this point, I agree with that idea of playing the returnees. I normally am on play who you will play in March, but where we sit now, play the people we want to return and provide even a little experience
