Those final fours seem like years ago cause well, they were. First 5 years cal was on fire. He normally does put it together for a decent run but not final 4. Next year will be the same. We don’t have any Studs that can walk in a dominate.

Actually I’m not sure this team will put it together. We don’t have a PG that can not turn it over and distribute the ball.

.. and some years, you miss. Cal missed on a PG it seems.

Fran McCaffrey missed for 10 years at Iowa. But everyone wants him. Bennett is a tournament joke other than 2 seasons. Beard? 13 losses last seasons. Jay Wright? Also a tournament joke before two titles that were nearly back to back.

It happens. Some years dont work out. If this fanbase doesn't realize that soon, not only will they be miserable.. but they will contribute to the downfall of a team that upcoming coaches don't want to bother with.

Okay. And what do we do with that? Is it inevitable that our guys leave after one or two years - to transfer, overseas, or NBA?

Why are we one of the only elite programs that has atrocious player turnover? Does the staff sell anything beside "fastest NBA prep" around?

Can they land kids by telling them that some of them are likely 2-3 years because they lack real present-day talent? I have my doubts.

We can all diagnose the problems, but it's not our fault that the system isn't working anymore. We're not paid to fix it, and your optimistic notion that a bad/mediocre season will lead to more players coming back has proved historically faulty already. The Knox team was mostly underachieving all year, and we still lost Gabriel, Vanderbilt, Diallo, SKJ, Wynyard and ultimately Green anyway.

Last year saw the departures of Hagans/EJ. They both chose the professional netherworld of overseas ambiguity over anything UK could offer for a third season. That's sickening to me and Cal and the staff need to do a better job of mitigating that sh*t when they're out recruiting the next crop of delusional 17 year olds.
It is the brand. If the players don't become one-and-done, they feel like failures. So, they leave even if they really have no where to go. There have been too many players careers severely damaged because of buying into the clichés. Most are getting to the NBA but they don't hang around very long.

I can't get into all of that. I've talked about so many reasons why a brand new team, no matter how talented, is still unlikely to win a final 4, especially with the hurdles we have this year. You can find them if you search my posts.. clearly others are that keyed in to what I say lol .. so it aint that hard to find.

All I can say is that Coach K is doing the same thing, and he doesn't have a Final4 either. What's funny about him, they keep canceling his games. Or HE keeps cancelling them. Smart move.

If we don't like the system, thats fine. I agree. I dont think its a great system right now, especially with how recruiting has gone.
You really think K starts 1-3 with UK’s roster and schedule?

It's crazy. We're now making up pessimistic stats to run Cal off.

I'm not happy with him, and I do think we need to start thinking about life after Cal.. but Jesus christ.. lol.
Making them up… ..as in, they're not true?

Absolutely. He has no time with them. No returnees. And his team has miraculously ducked what, 2 games now? You know he's still practicing.

Fact remains, Coach K hasnt won DICK when he went heavy on 1AD recruiting. And he had better classes than UK.

You act like these guys just started playing the game. These are players who have played at the highest level of basketball prior to coming to UK and they have the skills to get the job done. If they don't, Cal should never have recruited them. These players aren't playing under any conditions that the rest of college basketball is play under. As players lose their game, Cal is losing his skills and he isn't earning his salary. UK has way too much invested in this program for this type of product.

They kinda did just start playing the game. If you think they faced this level of competition in AAU, you are did wrong.

The ESPN host opposite of Greenburg said let me speak for BBN "What the HELL is going on?"

This isn't a situation where anyone in the media is thinking UK fans are wrong for their outrage
That guy is a huge UK fan

I tell ya what’s gonna be a blast. When Clark, Boston and maybe a couple others opt out to prepare for the draft. And I don’t blame Cal for this other than he sure doesn’t seem to be making college basketball much fun for these guys. But I’m really looking forward for that.
Maybe we should start having walk on try outs

you still don’t understand what you are seeing. I’m sure I know who fool is.
No, I fully understand what I'm seeing.
I see a coach that totally mismanaged his roster so he could satisfy his NBA draft boner.

And I see a coach that is a one trick pony. He has notjing uo his sleeve. He runs an outdated offense from the 80's snd he runs 1 type of a switching defense and all he does is yell GOOOOOO. He can't game coach worth a damn.

Also, he's taking no accountability and he is still going to prioritize the NBA draft.

If they are not ready to play, which I don't believe is the case, we should stop bringing so many in at once. Maybe we should bring in more 4 star players and maybe even some 3 star players so as to have them for 4 years. Unfortunately, many of them don't want to come here because they don't want to be recruited over.

Fair point actually
that's not to say K hasn't tanked a season before - his bad back season where he put it on an assistant was complete garbage, and there have been plenty of times when the Duke fanbase was vocal about finding a replacement only to see him adapt and turn it around.

Is Cal the kind of guy that can reinvent himself? does he want to?

I think the first answer is yes, the second answer is no

Laugh it up all you want. How was that final 4 with Zion? Or Tatum? Or Bagley?

Your act is tired here. You're a Duke fan that tries to play nice, but hurls barbs from the sidelines.
Nope, they didn't get to a FF, but they whipped our asses by 34 points. Just another embarrassing loss on Cal's watch.

We didn't make the FF either.

Yeah K has had his hiccups like that back thing and the Dillon Brooks BS but I don't see him getting boat raced at home to Georgia Tech with UK's roster.

I'd say it this way, no way Coach K loses to Evansville and Richmond in consecutive years at Cameron.

We now have "fans" siding with Duke fans, not understanding Duke lost to SFA, didn't win a Final 4 in OAD era, and several not understanding Cal has multiple Final 4's. Holy ****.

Like I said, If life is THIS bad as Kentucky fan, there's always a knife in the kitchen.

Yup, the greatest coach in the history of our sport can't win with freshmen either, so why the hell are we still trying to do it?

Nope. You didn't win a title BECAUSE of 1AD.. you won it with Cook and company. That was the last of your upper-classmen era.

And Duke failed to do anything since.
So now we are making up facts to discredit other teams. 3 of 4 Duke's main contributors were OAD freshman and by tournament time there 4 biggest contributors were all freshman. Does an OAD team have to have a starting 5 of all freshmen? I get that you don't like Duke but at least try to be factual and obejctive.

Now, that's a fair question. First one I've seen from you tonight

I don't know if this is the answer.. maybe it worked a little TOO good for Kentucky the last 10 years. I'm not opposed to making a change. I just don't think 1 or 2 "bad" years means we throw the whole thing out. Not yet at least.

If Kentucky can't keep 2 or 3 of these guys for next year.. then we need to have a real convo about the program going forward.

I'm willing to kick Cal to the curb.. I'm just not as quick on the trigger as some of you, and I also understand, through many points I;ve made, that guys like Beard and Fran are not the automatic answers.. they're just the ones that make you feel better when you're throwing tantrums. It's like a child that smashes his game controller because he loses.

Cmon man, you can’t seriously be okay with these results.

Never said I was ok. Just trying to understand the actual problem. Its a simple minded thing to blame the coach. This is much deeper that that.

Think of it like fixing a car engine. You can look at it and say Ford or Toyota sucks, but that don't get you home. That's what mechanically illiterate people do. I'd like to understand what's broke and how it gets fixed.

It wasn't winning primarily because of 1AD... just like UK's wasn't.. although our season did rely a bit more on the efforts of 1AD.

Duke didn't sell themselves out to 1AD until the Giles/Tatum year. And it hasn't worked since.

Hmm, I never said Beard or Fran were adequate replacements, I don't know where you got that from. I don't want either one.

You can sit and watch this crap and hope for the best I guess, I've seen enough to know this is only going to get worse and Cal is not going to change. I don't need to see anymore, the guy is full of himself and he refuses to see what he's doing to this program. It's always someone elses fault, not his.

As far as player retention, yeah, 3 or 4 need to stay, but they need to be guards and one needs to be a damn good pg. Cal without an elite pg is a disaster. He's not a good enough game coach to win without elite guard play.

In your defense. I should have said that wasn't what YOU said.. just what others, like Morg, have said. So I'll eat that one. People want these other coaches, that have worse record than Cal has. Why? Again, its the kid who smashed his toy and wants a new one. The behavior on this board is childish, at best.

So who then? Who is doing it better? What, we have a few down years and we throw tantrums over it? And by the way, it was those AMAZING first 5 years that you're holding Cal to! How fair is that?? We go bananas for 5 years because of Cal, but once we kinda regresses to the norm we want to kill him... so we can, what? Find the next guy who wins 4 final fours in 6 years?

He deserves more time.. not 5 years, certainly not 10. But he deserves a few more seasons.

A few more lol. It was 2015 he won a Final 4. Do some of you forget the mid 2000's? How about the 70's and 80's?

We're hanging on to a legacy, in which half the titles came before segregation.. Let's take a second to stand back, and realize that Kentucky only has 4 titles since 1970 and only 11 Final fours since then as well. Cal has 1 and 4 of those.. I think that warrants a few more seasons.

I think it’s more than just he missed on point guard. Don’t get me wrong I love Cal I love what he’s in for the program, I think he genuinely is a good guy. With the cheating going on if he’s other schools with buying players for whatever reason he’s just not getting the top talent. It’s hard to win the one and done game if you’re not getting the top end talent. He’s going to have to pivot and adjust moving forward if he wants to remain successful.

Wrong again, where did you get that I'm holding Cal to the standard he set his first 5 years? I never said that.

What I want is cal to coach for UK or bring in someone that will. The embarrassing losses are piling up the further we go down this dark tunnel.

This worked when we were getting studs, how long does Cal go before he realizes this **** isn't working?

I bet you a thousand bucks that if we went to the NIT for the next 2 years, he STILL wouldn't change. The NBA draft would STILL be his priority and that is sad. You know I'm right on this.

You either recruit top 5 kids… .land them, or you go with veteran rosters. Bringing in a bunch of hs athletes is a bad idea and has been for a whike, but Cal doesn't know it.

Give Brad Stevens the deal Cal has before duke does, that's my take on it. Cal isn't going to change.

Mods. Take him out.
Aw cute sick your dogs on me.
I wasn’t here because I was on the ESPN boards until 2015 until they made it facebook only. I was watching UK when we won in 2012, when we lost in the NIT in 2013, lost to UConn in 2014 and Wisconsin in 2015.
