Does anyone know much about him? Comparisons? Watching mixtapes doesn't tell much. I've seen quite a bit of coverage for other players, but not him. I did hear Cal say that he was a fouler. Thanks in advance

He kind of reminds me of Whitney. Very athletic but his skill level is not close to college ready & I don't think his basketball IQ is great either. He has improved his shot over the last couple of year which is very important for him to play at this level. If we can keep him around for a couple years I think he can develop into a very good college player.

I honestly expect him to transfer after a year. I could be wrong here but I thought I remembered reading elsewhere the main reason we took him is because he was buddies with someone else we were recruiting. Hope I’m wrong because he definitely has some long term upside. He’s a guy that could be the leading scorer on a national title favorite as a senior. Zero chance that happens here though. Kids expect to be that as freshman and sophomores at Kentucky now and if it doesn’t happen they move on.

Certainly and unfortunately I can envision this scenario.

Very poor man's Jaylen Brown. Elite athlete. Minimal shooting ability. Could become a lock-down defender.

I hope we get that second year from him because I think he could start at the three as a sophomore.
He shot 36-96 (37.5%) from 3 last year & 15-30 (50%) his junior year. I'm not saying he's a knock down shooter but he's better than a minimal ability shooter.

Tropical storm Eta's storm track is as undecided as Montgomery with the ball in his hand.. 40 mile an hour wind gusts here with a tornado watch until 5 p.m.

I saw in the preseason zooms he talked about his single mother and siblings and “getting them out”. I really hope he stays to fulfill his dream but those comments made me think Charles Matthews/Khalil Whitney. Lose sight of the goal bc it doesn’t happen in a year. Especially since he is a raw athlete who has not been picking it up quickly in practice.

I saw an interview when he made these comments, probably the same interview. He reminded me of Nelly when he was in The Longest Yard

If he's what we hope he can be, he'll play for us. If he finds out he can't cut it here, he'll transfer.

The only guy we've lost that was someone who'd have actually contributed for us is Matthews. Jury is still out on Juzang.

So if Fletcher works hard, develops, competes, and finds a role, I like his upside and versatility for us. If he thinks he's a PG or wants to take 30 shots, he'll be at Missouri next season scoring 7 ppg.

Jaylen Brown can shoot.

So can Fletcher. Though at 18-19 years old, neither shot is/was a finished product.

Brown has made a ton of improvements to be the guy he is today. Fletcher has already improved a lot from what his shot looked like a couple of years ago.

The body style and athleticism are similar. Both are very strong and aggressive. Brown's handle and overall skillset were a lot better at the same stage.

Brown was also a top 5 player in his class and a high draft pick. Fletcher is not either. I think he is the type that won’t play much and will transfer. I believe he would be a nice contributor later on but not this year and we have not had any evidence kids will stick around long enough. They either go pro or transfer. We will get other good players to replace them though

What makes you say he has not been picking it up in practice?

Could he become a D. Liggins type defender? Nice to have a mix of different skill sets. Those type teams can win it.

Fletcher is a superior athlete to Whitney and as long as he doesn't start referring to himself as "The Lizard King" or "The Gila Monster"--I'm confident he'll be around next year. The minute Whitney started "The Dragon" it was a complete $hitshow. That was not genuine at all and the fact his Dad got involved and pushed for stupid stuff like that really hurt Kahlil--who is a good kid and had right idea when signing.

Fletcher's been coached hard at Vashon, not as polished as most UK recruits, has a different background, but I liked what I saw in terms of improvement on the court in his SR year and he was doing it against a very challenging schedule too. Vashon is a tremendous program. Pulling for him to see the big picture and see a much higher ceiling than everyone has set/has for Keion Brooks if Fletcher stays with the program. He's already a better ball handler and athlete, just needs to relax and not think he's got to do everything in one year.

He never was brought in to help with any recruit either. He's friendly with Clarke and Boston but they were both locked into UK before Fletcher and yes I know that Fletcher officially committed before Clarke but that commitment was done in Spring of '19. (speaking of Clarke)

well I guess I should not have said it with certainty since it was coming from ksr (I believe they get good information but I know some people don’t believe so) and coach cals comments. Or lack there of.
When asked about him he didn’t really say much except he is a “fouler”.I took that as his path to playing is defense and right now he isn’t doing that well.

Can we quit saying the guy's out the door before he's even played? I get it; we've had people transfer or leave for the draft who were too impatient to wait their turns.

But we've also had guys like Washington, Quickley and Richards who were patient and became good/great players. Let's at least let the guy get some games under his belt before we put him in the transfer portal.

Finally someone knowledgeable about CamRon Fletcher. The St. Louis area has really good high school basket, it's a rather large metro area, over 2 million. Several colleges recruit there for both football and basketball, especially N.D.. Cal loves players that love to play defense, that's one of his best gifts. I'd rather have someone like Fletcher that continues to improve than some pre Madonna that thinks their all world and bad in the locker room. Give the young man a chance to show what he has and let the chips fall where they fall.

KSR is trash when it comes to getting info on the basketball program. I've trolled them purposely by stating something not true to see if they'd do as so many here have alleged them of doing (stealing info) and they ran with "anonymous source said....." and it was the exact thing I wrote--which was intentionally incorrect.

Need to stick to whatever it is that makes them popular. My experience has seen them defending racist woman who can't take a UK loss in Rupp but are friends with Matt Jones, making up things to boost book sales for the founder/leader, but I've not paid much attention until the last year when some friends on this site informed me of how they built/conduct their business. People here are better than I as that would get someone's head kicked in if they were robbing me, but that's for each individual to decide how they deal with things.

A lot here have it wrong about Fletcher. Fletcher is a hard worker, extremely talented, and simply as long as Fletcher remains focused he’ll be fine and do fine here. Many had something to say about Fletcher and Uk in regards to the commitment in general, but Fletcher and UK are actually a fit from a player makeup perspective. He just comes from a different background and environment and not as polished and in many ways isn’t a glossy sexy type of prospect but he’s a perfect back up 3/4 and perfect for this team, and perfect prospect for Cal to hone in a couple of years.

I think he is pretty much Whitney, except he's ranked where Whitney should've been ranked.

i like what he has to offer in the sense of power, aggression and a thicker build, but I anticipate he’ll be showing that off at Mizzu, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc next season. I thought the same thing when he committed and we got guys who are more advanced than him.

it’s a very sad outlook, but one that I and many others seem confidant in based on recent trends.

With all that said, he seems like a perfect Cal guy from his Memphis days - rough, tough, athletic and can play that combo forward spot.
