Trump kind of getting the Duke NCAA Tournament bracket draw as far as competition to run against for presidency goes.

Heard talk of hundreds of cars blocking the roads, storming the mayors home, maybe some premeditated violence...hope it’s just rumor.

I believe the rumor is that Tuesday was going to be the day an announcement of no charges in Breonna Taylor case would be made, but AG has already said no announcements this week.

There was a memo circulating “allegedly” from the Louisville pd basically saying that all leave was cancelled 8/25 and all hands on deck...likely for what ^ said above.

Toasty Tavern on Shelby St was a nice find yesterday before heading to the Zoo. Nice wedge salad for two, and a ridiculously good burger. Small place, no tv's, but worth a try if you haven't been, Louisville peeps.

Going to Louisville this weekend for the first time since COVID started. Looks like I picked a great time.

What is the dining situation like? Can I go to Jack Fry's? I'm staying by the Wal-Mart, etc on Champions Trace. Anything cool to do over there?

The immediate area around that Walmart is a little sketchy. Are you in a house or a hotel?

Jack Frys should be safe. Sometimes they march in the Highlands but I don’t see a problem

If you go the other direction on Bardstown Rd (over the Buechel bypass) is a Russian/Serbian/Croatian etc enclave. Good bakery there called Jasmine bakery with good croissants and huge gyros for a fast lunch.

I'm in an airbnb by there. I'm going to be occupied all day Friday - Sunday, so I'm really just looking to get a good dinner and a couple cocktails on Friday and Saturday night. I'll probably Uber it.

A good Russian, etc enclave sounds awesome. Love their culture.

Since there are a ton of grillers on here I need some recs. Complete noob when it comes to grilling, just never was interested but lately I've wanted to give it a try. Looking for a decent propane "starter" grill, not going to dive into pellets or smokers just something for steaks, burgers, etc.

The 2 i've been looking at are the Weber Spirit II 310 & the Genesis II E335. 90% of the time it will be for 2 people so worrying about size is not a huge concern.

Both are good options. The main advantage of the Genesis over the Spirit is cooking temperature - it gets a good deal hotter. Nice upgrade to have when wanting to sear steaks. But both are solid and for a starter I’m sure the Spirit would work fine.

If you're certain you want to go with a gas grill ---> much respect.

But in my opinion for simply starting out and getting the hang out of it, nothing beats the standard Weber kettle and a charcoal chimney starter. It could not be easier and you actually get the charcoal flavor.

That said, whatever you are comfortable with and gets you started, do it. If you fall in love with it you'll change your set up multiple times any way so get the cheapest, easiest thing that you will like and go from there.

Kudos to Vince Tyra for announcing without ANDY’s blessing their plans to have 18,000 fans in the stands. UL submitted their plan to Junior weeks ago awaiting his response and they reasonably couldn’t have waited any longer considering they have home game in 2 weeks.
Adults are starting to make the decisions. About time.

Id take a good look at the Blackstone. It’s basically a giant cast iron skillet/griddle fueled by
Propane tank. Have been loving my 36.
Steaks are amazing. Breakfast, Hibachi, Philly cheese steaks, onion volcanos...all with the ease of gas grill. All you gotta do is scrape it off when you’re done.

-Like Wynn said, if you're dead set on propane get the hottest one available for searing after your nuts drop and you move to charcoal. Then like Hank said venture in with a Weber Kettle, perfect grill to get started on.

-Soccer guys, any resources or videos to help a non-soccer dad out would be appreciated. Spent an hour or so last night at the park letting him run around kicking the ball and getting used to it. Have no idea what I'm doing so don't want to start any bad habits. That kid is going to be a cross country or endurance superstar. He just has no off switch.

-🤣 WCC Dad's rant on the Reds. So f*cking amazing. Woke up and was the first thing I read. Today has to be great after that.

-So now MSM thinks the lockdowns may have been a bit to harsh, blunt, widespread, and done more harm than good? Uh, you think? K.

-Said it last week but if you hang on every word of a political convention... I just can't understand you.

-Mags has been talking about it, and I've been meaning to watch it, but World's Toughest Race is great TV. Big fan of Bear anyway but the race is amazing. We batted around some adventure races back in the day. I'd be down for a shorter(and more local) version. I think The Gorge or LBL has a couple. Need a reason to get back running. Only hang up is having a deadlock navigator but if we can get WS's cousin I think we'd have the bases covered. @PTI (pti) ?

-How's Jack Fry's doing with social distancing? Seems like the worst possible scenario for that place, just crammed in there, even though it's part of the experience.

At his age, he just needs to get comfortable with the ball on his feet. Honestly, just chase him around while he has possession. Get him going specific directions with the ball. Get a small net and act silly chasing him around. If he can dribble with something of a purpose -- he's already ahead of the game.

Anth -

For now, if he passes and receives the ball with the inside of his foot and actually looks up to see where he's going once in a while, he's way ahead of the curve. No need to over-complicate things at that age.

EDIT - and Geese is right about the dribbling around. Soccer is a lot like basketball in that regard - the more you do it, the more comfortable you'll be.

- Their next race or season is in Patagonia and signups are going on now. The show is awesome to watch, yet they also try too hard regarding inspirational stories following some teams. I *get* one contestant's son wanting to race with his father who has Alzheimer's, but at some points it just seems like they are dragging him through the course for their own benefit.

Seriously, If a 5 year old can dribble while occasionally looking up and passing a ball with some control they're ahead of 95% of kids "playing soccer"

Cool. That's what we did. Went up to Cassidy, they had a net, and we set up his little net about 30 yards away. Passed a bit, had him run back and forth "dribbling(?)" until he scored. Left foot only on one direction. Got in his way a few times, so he had to dribble around me, and had him work on stealing the ball from me.

He also found an old ****** baseball and seemed more enthused trying to throw it from one side of the field into the other net.

I'm a fish out of water on the ol' pitch, that's for sure.

Great. That's the info I needed. Not trying to turn him into Messi but just having a general understanding makes it more enjoyable. I love playing catch with him so just need a similar base game for soccer. Take him to a field and chase him around with a soccer ball. Easy peasy.

Nephew was lost as a goose playing soccer. Keeper got hurt, nephew only kid on the team who could catch and throw it back past midfield....boom, his career as keeper started.

Best way I've found to sear is on a cast iron skillet over an outdoor gas burner. Way hotter than the inside of the grill and no smoke filled kitchen.

This past weekend, I put a prime NY strip and a prime filet in the Weber Smoky Mountain at ~250 for about an hour until the center was up to 120, then finished on the cast iron. Dry brined with kosher salt over night, of course. Current go-to seasoning blend is about equal parts kosher salt, coarse black pepper and harissa (powder). [smoke]

creeksman, I love the WSM. I just gave mine away because I got a CampChef Woodwind 24" wifi w/ Sear Box.

I would do the same thing you did except instead I'd finish mine off by removing the barrel and putting a grate directly over the coals. You can do that with or without the cast iron skillet.

I melted the touch out of my probe the first time, though. Gotta remove that. (duh)

Weber kettle is the play. Love mine. Get the chimney and a vortex. Makes any indirect cooking a breeze. Best for wings though.

Anth - as has now been stated multiple times, just work with him on dribbling and passing with the inside of his foot. Work with him on keeping the ball as close to him as possible. Kicking/shooting with his laces. No toes. Little kids soccer is a hoot. Enjoy.

The 17 yr old that died at the mall Saturday is the older sibling of 2 of my baseball players. He was at our games just a couple weeks ago. Their family is great. We got the news right before we took the field Sunday. His brothers weren’t at the game, obviously. Was pretty hard to concentrate on baseball after that. Freaking tragic man. But seeing all the comments on Facebook about it and “he looked like a criminal anyway” and “where was his parents” ******** has me IRATE. The worst thing Trump has done is turn this country completely against each other. Every bad thing that happens now seems to have some MAGA prick throwing his 2 cents in. Economy is great tho!

*wipes off dust and cobwebs*

Quick hits:

* Tweonz started their junior year today. Pretty unbelievable. Tough year to be learning virtually, so hopefully they can get back to in-person classes soon. They're both pretty certain they want to attend UK, so 👍. It seems impossible that the campus has changed so much in such a short time, until I consider that "short time" is actually almost 30 years. That's a real kick in the ***, along with having to look UP at boy tweon.

* I have a lot to say politically, so I won't.

* I haven't touched a golf club in over a year, but I am addicted to Golf Clash. My nephew introduced me to it and I've essentially played it non-stop since.

* Speaking of grilling, I bought a new one for the first time in 20 years. Thought I would get another Weber, but went with a Napoleon instead. Seemed like I could get more for my money than I could with a Weber, and I've been really happy with it. It's gas, but I have the option to use charcoal. Also has infrared rear and side burners. The side burner gets up to 1600 F in a minute or two, so I can get a really good sear. Sashimi-grade salmon, skin side down, on the IR burner for a couple of minutes is absolutely ridiculous.

* I REALLY need the NFL. College football is the highlight of the sports year for me, so I'm low-level depressed about its absence this fall. I know there will technically be games, but it's not the same. At least it looks like the NFL is going full steam ahead, so fantasy football is on. We're doing an auction instead of snake for the first time in 20 years on Saturday, and my excitement is way out of proportion, but damn I need some football.

* Any good podcast recs? I've been heavy into history podcasts - listened to everything Dan Carlin has done multiple times - so need to switch it up some. I used to listen to KSR religiously, but the political stuff got tiresome and I lost interest. No sports didn't help.

* How cool would it be to have WSloot as a mom? Almost worth having anth as a dad. Almost.

* I'm honestly really concerned about downtown Louisville. It's a dumpster fire right now. There seemed to be a lot of great momentum and revitalization, but thanks to Covid and the peaceful (🤨) protests, small businesses and restaurants are dropping like flies. Not sure when we became Chicago Jr., but here we are. Sucks. I work from home exclusively now, so I don't have much need to go down there, but still.

* @Bonzo Cat - I think Carouselambra was an anomaly. I prefer to think that a 1980's Zep would've followed the Wearing and Tearing, Darlene, and Ozone Baby path, assuming Page got his ish together.
