A lot of opinions here. I like it.
Personally, I find the modern game with its emphasis on isolation and 3-point shooting to be very dull. There are many plays in the NBA that occur that, to me, are just plain bad basketball. 1-on-4 step back 3s, insanely forced shots, etc. Then you have the 3 and 4 steps allowed for some players and not others, inconsistent officiating, end of game rules where they advance the ball past midcourt, etc.
Watch films of the Trailblazers with Walton or the 80s Celtics and see the ball move, team defense, surgical fastbreaks. To me, that's the epitome of basketball. Watching James Harden, as special a talent as he is, take 3 steps and jack up another step back 3 or drive to the hoop and the ref calls a foul before there's any contact, just makes me want to puke.
From an athletic standpoint, the NBA has never been better. From a basketball standpoint, I can hardly stand to watch more than half a quarter.
