I was kinda hoping we didn’t get him to be honest. With the transfer rule happening I think we get a better option. I understand why they went after him bird in hand thing and still uncertainty but now it looks like it’s going to pass. On your last point, I could see Cal saying that and I could also see it preventing a guy like Haarms from wanting to come here in his last season.

Time will tell. If Calipari doesn't snag a player who is at least as comparable to Haarms from an impact level, the staff will have failed this summer to secure a position player of need.

We shall see, but their big man efforts as of late haven't inspired much hope in me on that front.

Keep in mind though, the news about the transfer rule hadn’t come out while Cal was in such hot pursuit. Mind you, a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush and Haarms is good enough not to pass on. But I do agree that there’s a good possibility Cal ends up with someone better than Haarms.

I don't know about all that. First, this is the NCAA we're talking about, so it's hard for me to see them doing something to benefit players and schools. Second, there was already like 700 transfers in the portal before this rule, how do we know this new rule would open up the flood gates? It looks like the gates were already open.

Plus, Haarms was 7'3'', experienced, etc. If he didn't want to float around the perimeter, he would have been perfect for Cal.

I think Haarms wanted a school where he could be a stretch 4 roaming around on the perimeter on offense. He wasn't going to be that here.

I could see Haarms getting frustrated here. Cal was not going to let him jack up threes and would have been all over him when he struggled to guard smaller guys on switches. He will have much less pressure on him going out west.

I get this... ANY player that is offered Cal wants.
But it is impossible to get every player you want.
I don’t get the overboard reactions when a player chooses elsewhere. The other teams really wanted that guy also.

I don’t think he was a serious contender for UK...he wanted to showcase his perimeter skill and we wanted someone to bang on the block. Have a feeling that was mutual split.

While ncaa may vote to eliminate the sit out it will enact for next year, otherwise another 700 low and hi major kids will be gone this summer

I wanted him because of his size and for depth. UK needed him for both.

The old we didn't want him anyway thread. However, retrospectively, there have been recruits everyone wanted bad that went elsewhere and were duds. Haarms was a proven player with experience. Experience is the challenge right now for our team. Perhaps with these transfer rules it might still work out as a few other posters have commented. Just have to wait and see.

It sounds like they were out ahead of the Mintz thing. I got the 2 month trial to check out HOB after the Mintz info.

But the Haarms thing has been a bad look as far as "insider" status.

Not going to lie, I wanted Haarms. We needed a rim protector and some experience and he added both.

I am hopeful that it does turn out to be a blessing in disguise and we are able to add a great piece at Center either as an immediate transfer or a reclass.

Time will tell. We just need to be patient. This is an off-season like we have never seen before. It’s going to be extremely long, so we don’t need to be in panic mode just yet. At least wait until the end of May before you start hunting for bridges. LOL!

If you’re gonna do a free trial, I’d actually wait till basketball season starts. David Sisk does video breakdowns on the games that are incredible. That’s worth more than the recruiting info to me personally.

In my opinion, the good news - we don't have a season of being frustrated with a slow and fragile Haarms, where he gets posterized every 10 games or so.

The bad news - our coaching staff is showing some desperation by going after him. He wasn't a great fit, so it seems like we're scrambling, which in a way we are with all of the departures. But just wish more work was put into bolstering the roster prior to NBA declarations. This move seemed Tubby-eqsue.
