Saying “Americans are dumb” isn’t good enough. We can’t just use the fear of a “massive outbreak” to shut **** down indefinitely until there is no risk. It just doesn’t work like that. Some businesses can absolutely get back to work and function at least semi-normally. Some of the businesses shut down will lead to emergencies in the future if continued to shut down. There at least needs to be a semblance of a plan presented. I’m starting to legit lose it, and I’m still working all the time but on **** I don’t want to be working on - non productive headache inducing constantly putting out fires stuff.

I’m sorry I chose a career where I can’t sit in my boxers in front of a computer eating a bag of f*cking Doritos and still accomplish things. But the reality is I’m 38 with two young kids and a 33 year old wife and I’m fine to work - let’s go I need out of this damn house. I’ve posted more in this thread the last month than in the last two years so at least for the sake of GYERO let’s get society rolling again.


Also why the hell do I keep getting updates on NYC every day. Who gives a **** about NYC other than people that live there. Can you possibly give me a less relevant area to compare my area to? The GD Chinatown in NYC is bigger than most cities in Ky and OH

On April 14, New York City reported 3,778 additional deaths that have occurred since March 11 and have been classified as "probable," defined as follows: “decedent [...] had no known positive laboratory test for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) but the death certificate lists as a cause of death “COVID-19” or an equivalent" [source].

From April 14 onward, New York City has provided - and will continue to provide - the updated number of probable deaths in its daily reports.

On April 15, in the daily press briefing, New York Governor Cuomo said that "we will begin reporting all categories of fatalities pursuant to new CDC guidelines and are contacting facilities to get updated numbers." He also added that there may be additional people who died that have not been counted because not in a hospital. In the April 15 update, the New York State Department of Health official website had still not included (nor reported separately) the additional "probable" deaths reported by New York City the day before.

That link says the Bronx has 24k+ covid deaths. Are they doing a 180 to China with this? These numbers don't make any sense. Meanwhile down in Florida where it's mostly Rogues, olds and fats - we're at roughly 500+. We have an entire city called the Villages that is all seniors and I think they're roughly 10 deaths.

I'm trying to figure out how this hasn't been around since probably last fall and with the way classifying nearly all deaths as covid right now is making the end of the this looks much worse than it really is. I'm not a it's just the flu guy but there's so much crazy, incomplete data that is being modeled and changed so much that the numbers just don't make all that much sense for what's happening outside.

My wife is from Michigan and one of her best friends is an ER nurse there. Her friend was absolutely devastated yesterday about the protest. Not so much that people were protesting, but how they went about it, with the complete disregard for masks and social distancing. It’s not time for that. Same thing in Kentucky or Ohio. If you’re going to protest, do it in an organized manner that doesn’t threaten the safety of others. Mob mentality takes over in the absence of leadership and guidelines.

22 million and rising by the millions per week.

At some point there has to be a line where it’s ok to take risks. The government can’t afford (literally) to wait this out. It took one of the largest work deals in history (The New Deal) to get us out of this during The Great Depression. And even then it ultimately took World War 2 to get over the hump.

On the bright side, manufacturing and infrastructure is going to come back to the US in an unprecedented way. Hopefully the labor force responds accordingly.

Most, no.

But I believe their operations are interrupted for no reason at all. They sell their products retail. Why can’t they continue being open with a “5 at a time” rule like I see at SOME Liqour stores?

Sure some are helping for the greater good by jumping in the Hand Sanitizer business to make up for lost revenue.

And yes, most use distribution as a major source of revenue so the bulk of their business is there. But there was no NEED to limit that if you are going to leave Liqour stores open.

That was my point.

A few things I think will certainly happen....

- we'll all "get back to work," and "open the economy," but the risk will just be shifted to the employer. prepare to see (take Georgetown Toyota, for example), mandatory temperature taking, gloves, masks, etc before coming into work.

- there will be no more large events in 2020. go ahead and cancel all of your live sports watching plans now.

- serious limitations on bars and restaurants to the point that many will not be able to continue operating because they can't even pay their overhead.

- the entire stimulus will end up being well over $5 trillion


We'll just have to kind of deal with the "new reality," and that lots of people are going to die. If the government is going to do anything, these bozos need to work 24/7 getting tests and supporting hospitals. That's it.

There is also AI for jobsite cameras to alert when coworkers are within six feet of each other and proximity wristband systems like HALO that vibrate when someone is within six feet of you.

My employer has already been doing the stuff you listed for a couple weeks at this point.

There will be sports/concerts to attend this year.

This is definitely not a "new normal"....nothing normal about it. Common sense prevails and respect the feelings of those who were fear mongered into a corner.

Wash your hands, drink more, and buy local when you can.

Jalen Green having a final group of colleges and then announcing that he's turning pro--- Dude, that announcement could be made on a Zoom call with your family. No one else cares.

This is going to be a thing in the future. Guys we think he have a shot at will be sitting at a table with a bunch of hats and pull out a Nike hat from under the table. Sportswriters will tell us we're ******** if we're not happy for them.

Sometimes I think maybe the Covid-19 is right about us.
