At least a player can pick up some college credit that way. That gets overlooked and a college degree is meaningless compared to a first round guarantee. But in these times, it actually isn't to be overlooked if the comparison is to get free college credit and room and board while knowing the NCAA might cancel next year VS. trying to play in Europe when there is probably about the same chance that those seasons will be cancelled too.
This is the new norm.
No staff changes.
Unnecessary roster turnover
This is quickly becoming the end of the Tubby era with just higher rated recruits.
Something has to change.
This current climate around Kentucky basketball is an absolute joke and a lot of people are blind to it. 5 years no 1 seed. 5 years no Final Four. 5 year gap in signing a Top 5 recruit
And in that time, Cal has gotten multiple raises and now a lifetime contract based on what?
And now you lose 95% of last year's stats with one GD first rounder?

Scored double figures 5 whole times last year for Rhode Island. I say we get him.
We need to add at least 2 more upperclassmen transfers to the mix.
As frustrating as it is to see guys jump early, does it really matter if they are replaced by a combination of elite high school players and multiple older/proven college transfers?
Sure, it will lead to some growing pains while the team meshes. However, we returned 4 guys + Sestina last season and lost to goddamned Evansville in early November.

Uh, maybe winning the championship in 2012, multiple Final 4's, made us the Cool program again, bringing UK basketball back from the Abyss ? But, nah, give me more Ramon Harris', Stacy Poole's, and Dawg Carruth's, etc. Maybe you can fire up the ole Hunter Mcclintock, Bud Mackey, Dakotah Euton mix tapes and relive the glory days. I mean WTF do you expect ? A National Championship every year, maybe every other year ? EVERYONE is in the One and Done game, he has tried to switch up, but guys like Booker, Herro, Shai, bucked the trend and where better than advertised. Not to mention the culture of today's guys where if they do not get the instant gratification they seek, they pick up their ball and go home (or transfer). I get SOME frustration, we have been in a "little" rut, but to act like the sky is falling is just narrow minded, expecting / demanding something that is just not possible (it is why we have only won 8 of them all time). Maybe be a Louisville, UCLA, or Arizona fan, they are killing it. People like YOU are exactly why we as fans get a lunatic perception from others around college basketball. While we are at it, throw in Kansas as teams you can go cheer for. or go cheer for the Knicks, ----------.

Not even going to mention the "pay for play" **** that has been uncovered the last few years. If you don't think that cost us SEVERAL top 5 guys, then you are either to stupid, or do not want to believe it because it does not fit your bitching, never satisfied agenda.

Oh ********. When the ONLY thing you do is shoot 3s and you’re doing that at an 18% clip until February, it’s tough to win games playing the guy.
So he scored in double figures 1 less time than E.J. Montgomery did in 65 games at Kentucky? Sounds like an upgrade.
He only averaged 5 points and 4 rebounds per game as a freshman. What ? So he was a normal freshman. Which is exactly how you get guys for multi years. If he would have averaged 20 and 10, he would have been One and Done. So you want guys who averaged 20 per game as a freshman to transfer in. Got it. He is the exact type of player we need a few of on the roster every year so that we don't get caught with our dicks in our hand with a short roster and depending on all freshman who have one foot out the door to lead us.. 2/3 years from now, he will be that upper classman leader a lot of teams have who end up turning into a NBA prospect as a upper classman.

The NCAA is literally imploding in real time and we just had 6 guys declare for the draft on the most scrub *** team we've had under Cal (I'm excepting the Nerlens year given his injury.)
Now is the time for leadership. I'm sure Matt Jones will sunshine pump and tell UK fans how lucky we are to have Cal. And we are. But I just want Cal and the UK admin to act like they give a **** about our actual results and sell that to UK fans rather than this endless horseshit about making dreams come true whenever those dreams are also getting shittier and ******* every year.

Kid was a smart player, gave a **** and would stick his nose in for tough rebounds and heady defensive plays. Finally found his shot when his minutes got more consistent. Should have been getting Whitney's minutes from day one...but no, we have to get our overrated top 10 kid some run so he doesn't take his ball and go home or hurt the "we make lottery picks" narrative.
Cal simply does not value a guy like JJ with a lower ranking, he sure doesn't value the ability to stretch the floor as much as he does a cool block or dunk. I'm sorry but it's the hard truth. We didn't even start the SEC POY year for about the first quarter of the season in an effort to breath life into Whitney's dead basketball corpse.
We rode Hagans out of the tournament last year and between Whitney's early season drama and our primadonna point guard being hook proof for two straight seasons - because gawd forbid he take a seat like Jemarl Baker who accidentally fouled a guy trying to make a play - it's just been maddeningly frustrating.
The "I can't hide you" and "we don't give up on kids" narrative seems to apply to some more than others and it may be a reason we struggle to build rosters that include 3 and 4 year guys.
EDIT: Oh and one more thing, EJ should have been a backup 5.

Cal is taking a beating over not being able to keep even his role players on campus and it's deserved. But he's crushed this recruiting class when you look at the obstacles he had to face and the land mines he avoided:
Rankings according to 24/7
1. Cade Cunningham- Went to a non-contender, could argue it was wasted time, but we had a shot.
2. Evan Mobley- Went to a non-contender, no chance with a family member on staff.
3. Jalen Green- We got out early, kid's going pro.
4. Clarke
5. Ziaire Williams- Went to a non-contender, wasted UNC's time.
6. Scottie Barnes- Florida State, we were in the mix.
7. Boston
8. Jalen Suggs- Zags, says he was always going there. (Getting recruited by G-league now.)
9. Greg Brown-I think he was always going to Texas unless Shaka was fired. Cal kept us in it, likely got out when that became apparent.
10. Josh Christopher- He went to a non-contender, wasted a lot of teams time.
11. Jalen Johnson- Duke got one. Their only top 20 commit.
12. Makur Maker- Pro.
13. Isaiah Todd- Got out super early, kid wasted a LOT of Michigan's time.
Not sure how else he was supposed to handle any of these situations, and he successfully dodged all the land mines of guys that were going pro all along, and was successfully able to divert to secondary options that look like they'll fit in and play early. Kind of brilliant how all this was handled.
Meanwhile Duke and Kansas with 0 top 10 players and only one top-20 player overall apiece. This was a rough year for recruiting across the board with a lot of kids joining family members, surely a couple getting paid, and a lot going the pro-route. I disagree on most of this.
- Whitney obviously sucked but Cal had to give it a shot. If he ever got it, it would have really helped the team.
- Juzang was complete garbage but for a few games. Saying otherwise is revisionist ********. He can’t guard. He can’t drive. His shot was only ok. He was a typical freshman. It’s fine but let’s not act like he was good this year.
- Everyone’s offensive stats, most importantly IQ’s, dipped when Hagans was out.
- By season’s end, Montgomery had found his role and was a good option at the 4.
Suggs has openly discussed playing overseas so we’ll see if he makes it to Spokane.
We did end up with the best player in the country who doesn’t have a family member on staff.
At this point, I'm not sure I am. The NCAA is dying a slow, painful death and apparently signed its own DNR order not to bother with trying to keep it alive.

Everything you said about Juzang is correct, and could have also been said -- and much more emphatically -- about Cameron Mills, for example. And yet that guy somehow managed to be a HUGE piece to 2 great teams, despite being absolute dogshit in every single skill on the court......except for one.

Mills was a senior who was fine playing 5 minutes a game and actually made 3s. So wtf are you talking about?
And, Juzang wasn’t hitting the 70% Mills did during our tournament run.
