If we were to get Haarms, which I am skeptical of, we are still going to have to find another guard/ball handler somewhere. It may even be more urgent need than a center, since I think Jackson will shock a lot of people early on. But even Quickley, in the unlikely event he returns, isn't really a proven ball handler-floor general yet. I would like to find one that is smaller and quicker, like the guy from UNLV. Those types always seem to burn us up, and Askew, while big, certainly doesn't look super quick. So getting someone like that would be a real compliment for this team.

Juzang was a nice 6-7 man, whatever Allen does. I watched the Florida game -- his best game by far -- with him as my total focus. He couldn't create his shot. He was a bad defender, he was average at moving without the ball. He had decent court awareness. When he was hitting shots, he was an asset but his shooting percentage was low - 32 percent from 3 even after 4-5 v. Florida. The difference between his talent and Maxey and Scottie Lewis was immense.

He was likely never going to be a starter at Kentucky. He wasn't a Quickley, a legitimate 5-star who needed a year to get his footing.

Haven't any of you re-watched all the Championship games being broadcast? Everyone one of them including our 2012 year, boiled down to offensive rebounding, second chances, defensive stops, etc. Even the 1998 Duke win ended when an offensive rebound was tipped out for a 3 for us. We have to have a talented physical big man or close games won't go out way. It has been true for every other team as well.

Allen can easily play that Darius Miller Swiss Army knife role.

We haven’t had that 6th man in awhile that can play the 2-4 and score from all 3 levels.

Add Haarms and Get IQ back so Askew can ease into the college game playing behind an All-American Vet and let’s hang 9.

People kept talking about needing him for his shooting but he never in 4 years of high school shot better than 35% from 3. I mean he would no doubt have improved over time, but the only thing he would have provided next year with Boston & Clarke coming in was bench depth. Those 2 will need to be on the court together as often as possible.

Just assuming we add Haarms for fun.

1. Askew
2. Boston
3. Clarke
4. Brooks Jr.
5. Haarms

Bench: Ware, Jackson, Allen, Fletcher

And I don't think Cal is done yet...
That bench needs at least 1-2 more guards who can actually handle the ball.

Add a Grad Transfer PG and we are in business.

I just don’t see Askew as ready to lead the team at PG. I like him as a reserve. Get a few minutes at PG and a few minutes as a shooter off the ball. Dude can shoot, but I don’t like the idea of the ball being in his hands for 30mpg. He needs a season to get acclimated to the college game. Just my opinion, though.

Hopefully IQ returns or we add true PG. I suspect that we get Hardy from UNLV. Not a true PG, but at least he is a seasoned veteran who knows how to score at the D-1 level. And maybe someone better will come along.

Hardy unfollowed UK on Instagram in the last couple days so I don't see that happening.

I don’t think he would have been a great fit anyway. We need a legit true PG to lead the way. He was the only GT guard Cal has contacted, so I thought he might be his target.

Either Cal expects IQ back, thinks Askew is good enough to start, or is still looking for the right guy to announce he is going into the portal.

I would offer another option, which I think Cal is going to greatly consider whether people want him to or not. Clarke playing PG, similar to Evans at Memphis. In fact there have even been whispers that Cal indicated to Clarke that he would play some a PG next year. Now, maybe that changes the pitch to a guy like Brown. And just for kicks and giggles, consider this line-up:

Clarke
Boston
Brown
Brooks
Haarms

Cal could also be using that same pitch to a couple of other players who we have somewhat been linked with, but less likely than even Brown to commit, Kuminga and Banchero. For that matter, even without those 3, what does that line-up look like if you replace Brown with Allen. That still on paper would be a pretty deadly line-up.

I’ve mentioned the Clarke at PG possibility as well. It is an intriguing possibility.

Even with Askew on the floor, we might still see Clarke running the Point. Askew will likely be our best shooter. Put him on the wing with Clarke running the show and get him some open shots off Clarke’s drives.

Right now, without adding anyone else, that sounds like the best scenario to me. Askew, Clarke, Boston, Brooks, and Jackson starting.

I still think we will add another couple of guys if all our starters leave as expected.

Not expecting to add Greg Brown, though.

Add Haarms and another grad transfer and we are set. That's talent and experience. Albeit not experience playing at UK, which is a whole different animal.

I'm 95% sure Cal is putting Clarke at PG on day 1. I think Clarke and Boston are going to be 2 of the best freshmen we have ever had under Cal, and think both of them, Clarke especially, will be elite from the very 1st day.

Its just a shame that we don't have another sure thing on the roster. Had IQ and EJ come back we would probably be title favorites. Without them we are going to need a combination of Brooks taking a massive jump forward and some of the other freshmen to way over perform their ranking, similar to an SGA/Bledsoe type.

The other freshmen overperforming seems to be more likely with elite freshmen on the roster as well. Bledsoe is one that comes to mind for sure. History with Cal says that even top 25 prospects tend to perform well when given a lesser role on the team. But I will say this, I'm almost 100% confident our roster is not just Brooks, Allen and the currently committed freshmen. I believe Cal either gets a couple to return that everybody assumes is gone, or he adds a couple via transfer/reclass/recruit.

OP that lineup isn't a Final 4 lineup at all. A pg with turnovers and guys that can't shoot

Bench not giving us what a UK team should. We gotta get 2 of our starters back

Another season with not enough players to practice. The better transfers are going fast while we wait on two guys to decide what they want to do. With no dominating bigs and almost all pure freshmen can see a not so good year unless we get a couple of transfers that can play.
