Reading this thread, it sounds like as a freshman he'll fall somewhere between Anthony Davis and Marcus Lee. I'll adjust my expectations accordingly.
We're all speculating pretty loosely and making proclamations based on little information. But...hey, what else is there to do currently. Watch a 2 minute highlight video and jump right in. Your take can't be any worse than the rest of us.

Richards was a very good defender this year but he wasn’t what I’d call an elite shot blocker. 2 blocks a game is pretty decent for a big guy. But Davis and Noel averaged 4.6 and 4.4. That’s elite. People were afraid to even attempt a shot in the lane JUST because those guys were there.

If those two are your standard, there have been maybe five elite shotblockers in college basketball history.

Richards really grew though between the two seasons. He may have been held back some his sophomore year on the court since we had Washington and Travis getting all the minutes.
Everyone is on a different clock, so there is no telling when or if EJ will get to the top of the hill, but it's also important to realize that EJ and Nick are completely different players. EJ will most likely be a post forward kind of guy and he'll have a different type of game. But he's long, athletic and has good hands. He just needs to get his motor going. The other stuff will come.

My take? When it comes to projecting from a highlight reel, I don't have a take. I guess I'll agree with what this gentleman observed:

Surely you’re not suggesting fans on this board consider their potential limitations in regard to basketball knowledge (let alone recognize or, god forbid, accept any such limitations)? Having played in elementary school and watched games all our life, many of us have as good or better understanding of the basketball ability of UK basketball players and what is needed for the success of the UK basketball team than a Hall of Fame coach and his professional coaching staff. Calipari frequently just doesn’t get it, and is too stubborn to do what many of us can so easily see needs to be done.;)

Obviously they’re not the standard we should expect all the time. But I was just making the point that Richards with his 2 blocks a game was a good but not elite shot blocker. The ncaa leader usual averages 3.5-4 a game. From what I’ve read about Jackson, he could very well end up that kind of guy.
