In the Owensboro paper today there was a big article about Ray Harper and in the article it mentioned Harper recruiting Toppin to WKU and he thought he would have gotten him, but he didn't qualify out of high school. Pretty interesting, had no idea about the background of Toppin, may have kept Harper at WKU a couple more years if he got him lol.

He was an academic mess. Went to several high schools. Didn’t qualify when he finished hs. Went to prep school. Then had to RS at Dayton because he still want qualified when he got there.
Harper had some other issues that lead to his dismissal at WKU.
Surprised he got into UD at all. Private Catholic school that at one time I know had very high academic standards. But most of those type schools over the years (Notre Dame, etc) have lowered their standards quite a bit for athletics. Think I read not too long ago about the only school that kept their academic standards high is Stanford.
Duke University absolutely does not lower their academic standards to admit high quality athletes.
