Joey,
Do you interact with Matterport technology or just modeling software?
We are adopting Matterport for 3D imaging of job sites. It is a game changer for the insurance industry
Yes, but we don’t use Matterport too much because we need higher tolerances and it tends to “bend” things spherically at the extents a tiny bit in larger spaces. (I don’t think we have any - just sub it out). But it is great for scope capture.
You might want to check out
“StructionSite’s Videowalk” tool. It’s really easy and might work well for your documentation - if you don’t need models. They are great and just starting so they might throw you a bone to study how it could work in your market (if they don’t already do it).
We use generally use Leica scanners for our point clouds. Mostly, we just drop the cloud in the models to
“check the dust” by hand. But we also automate modeling with
Edgewise to create clean models. If it’s just the raw point cloud, we use
ReCap to condition, note, share issues with the team and owners alike along the way.
I recently had to
gently present a developer with the fact that their new (existing) building purchase wasn’t as big as it they thought it was with a bunch red overlays on their drawings. But, they were happy to get things dialed in before designing to the wrong constraints screwed us all later.
(We also fly drones to generate models with photogrammetry.)
