There is so much unknown still that I think postponement was the best scenario. If you cancel it down the road then fine but why cut off your nose to spite your face?
"affected"Look at the stats. Healthy people aren’t effected and if you’re a college athlete I’d say your safe as can be. Close the events to crowds...who’s then at risk?
If you have an underlying condition that weakens your immune system or you are elderly, you should probably stay home and avoid crowds. Leave everyone else to live their lives as they please and stop creating mass panic where it isn't warranted. The vast majority of people who have tested positive have had nothing more than a low grade fever and a runny nose. It's nothing more than a glorified cold virus.
The Swine Flu pandemic that happened a few years back when Obama was in office killed THOUSANDS of Americans. It was way more deadly than Covid-19. Yet people barely mentioned it, let alone creating mass panic and shutting down the entire country.
This coronavirus had already been spreading around the planet completely unchecked for several months before the Chinese admitted to it. Everyone on Earth is going to catch this virus at some point in their life. We are beyond the point of no return. If people think cancelling a few basketball tournaments will stop the spread of the virus, they are totally kidding themselves.
Your numbers don't look right. A half million dead is 1/6 of those hospitalized, or about 16%. that's over 16 times the South Korea death rate.Let's compare this to swing flu. The CDC estimates 59 million people caught the flu over a year and a half. 265,000 people were hospitalized - less than half of 1 percent. 12,000 people died - That's 0.02% or 1 out of every 5000 people who caught it.
South Korea is testing EVERYBODY and so they don't have a bunch of unreported mild cases like most countries. The death rate there is close to 1 in 100 - 0.8%. I can't find numbers on their hospitalization rate but if you scale it down from other countries based on their lower death rate, you'd be looking at nearly 5% of all cases being in serious or critical condition - a good estimate of hospitalization rate.
If we do nothing to slow the spread of this and 60 million people catch it, then the above stats would work out to: 3 million people in the hospital and half a million people dead.
That's why we're working to contain this.
Canceling all this junk will do nothing to stop the spread. Absolutely nothing. People are still going to be out and about. Just like when they let schools out for the flu....go to Walmart or the ymca and kids are piled up like firewood.
Very few people will 100% be in isolation. People still come in constant contact. Regardless if it’s huge crowds or smaller gathering.
But you may be lumping all cases together as having the same affect on people. By far, most will be like the flu. They will feel like garbage for 10-14 days then get better. A small percentage (very old and weak immune systems) will be in much more danger. Some will die the same as they would with the flu. This is a common thing that’s happens to humans. We are allowing it to consume us unnecessarily.Man I don’t mean to be condescending but that’s a very misguided take. You may be right that people are going to get this but the timing is as important as the number. If everyone gets sick at once it will overwhelm the health systems and the mortality rate goes way up. When people get this bad they need ventilators and constant medical care. The bottom line is there’s not enough to go around if everyone gets sick at once.
What was wrong with the no fans plan?

What do you mean? Did Duke do something?Duke pussed out, so Emmert took his toys and went home. No point in having the tournament if they couldn't win.
This happened....What was wrong with the no fans plan?

No. What happened. This is a joke, right?
I wonder if Tubby halted his recruiting trips for the virus.I almost like OP’s Tubby updates more than this.
If i was 80, like you, i wouldn't be going to any games nor having your grandkids come over to bounce on your lap. Whether games continue or not, you should be on lockdown.I'm willing to bet you are well under 70. If you over 80 like me you might have a different opinion. It is unlikely that a healthy young person will suffer greatly from the virus, but they can take it home to old folks like Grandma and Grandpa or a mom, dad, sister or brother who have an underlying health problem.
This person should be banned....I have cancer, people like you put my life in jeopardy! I am only 45 years old and NOT A METH ADDICT

THIS IS WHY:That’s why I said close the door to the crowds and play with empty seats.
Unfortunately, this is true. Kids not going to school will be going to daycare. The only good thing is the fact that kids generally no longer go outside and play. Most sit at home and fart around on their phones or playing video games. You think 18-20 yr old kids are sitting in their homes? These kids are out playing pick up games and going to the mall. Gimmie a break
False, use your head dude.Canceling all this junk will do nothing to stop the spread. Absolutely nothing. People are still going to be out and about. Just like when they let schools out for the flu....go to Walmart or the ymca and kids are piled up like firewood.

Yes, the virus was called lazyitus....I wonder if Tubby halted his recruiting trips for the virus.
That is really the only option but probably not feasible with the OAD NBA workouts, hotel shortages that time of year, booked arenas, tv contracts etc.I suggested postponing the tournament, and was laughed at.
It is the only alternative to cancelling.
You are right. I caught my mistake last night. ThanksTheir death rate is 0.8% of total cases. We had 59 million total cases of swine flu. If my numbers are off, it's on how many hospitalizations we'd have.

The amount of money brought in can pay for the lawsuit. Kids are playing pick up games instead of on TV...its not stopping anyone.THIS IS WHY:
If they play the games with just players and officials. If one of those kids gets the virus, their university, AD, coach etc....will all be sued. If one of those kids was to get sick and die, can you imagine the problems those people would be in for? KNOWINGLY exposing players to a potentially harmful situation??? Scheister lawyers would be licking their lips for guaranteed outcomes such as this.
THE reason schools and the ncaa (which is nothing more than the member schools) chose to shut it down: they didn't want legal exposure (among more other noble reasons)
ncaa tv money would not help you re: your personal liability. I've been sued. When I read the original notice, it really didn't trouble me all that much because I knew the business had tons of liability insurance. However, as I kept reading, it said I'd been sued not only professionally but personally. It's that last word that will get you...when you see your personal $, belongings, earnings, etc... on the line. The amount of money brought in can pay for the lawsuit. Kids are playing pick up games instead of on TV...its not stopping anyone.

The death rate with Coronavirus will be almost the same as the flu. Half of the country has probably had it already and didn't even know it.
How certain of that are you, given that health experts across the world disagree with you? How many other people's lives are you willing to gamble on your being correct?
