Your ridicule aside, I think that would have been a transcendent approach.
Call my wife that and she may disagree.A comedian (of all people) said once "when you're comparing two words and you won't even say one of them, that word is worse." So don't act like calling her a stupid ***** is even close to the same. It just isn't.
The n-word is the single most hate filled thing you can say in America. And this woman didn't even check herself. It came out as freely as beer at an open bar. I'm not a black man so I can't really grasp what that must feel like coming from a white person, but I'm also not stupid. I've seen people react, I've heard them say how it makes them feel. It's a vile thing to say, and based on complete nonsense.
Good for Barnhart for taking this position. She very much earned it.
Wtf? LolI'd really like to hear a black poster's perspective of what he/she would want to see done to this woman if he/she was the one whom this insult was directed toward.
In our racist past several hundred thousand Americans died ending slavery. Those racists DIED doing something honorable. Youve done what exactly aside from expressing that you hate a woman who said a bad word. Paper straws I'm guessing.
Of course this should have never happened. Should she have her entire life changed and branded with a R no. She screwed up and she apologized. Many have said bad things and caught less hell including potus. I’m not black so I won’t pretend to know how that word makes someone feel like some of you on here.
Don’t hurt your arms patting Mitch on the back. He had no choice.
My son plays high school football. I go to all games and many practices. The use of that word by young black men is shocking. It bothers me to no end. They use it so casually. I’ll never understand it.
I completely disagree with you. Sitting down and having a discussion about something like this goes miles further than a no-teeth ticket ban. I'm starting to doubt your intent here...are you more worried about how UK looks or actual positive movement? No, it's an approach for which we would've ripped silly nationally, and which would've resulted in real damage to our image and brand. The message would be that we whitewashed this and that we embrace open racism in our fan base (and, boy, wouldn't that be good for recruiting...).
It was vitally important that our response communicate the message that we do not tolerate this stuff in Rupp Arena. Your approach would send the opposite message.
Call my wife that and she may disagree.
I see what you are saying but it’s not always a good term between young black men. It’s ofter said with stupid on the front of it. And it still bothers me to hear it no matter who says it or what the context is.I can't do anything about our ugly past. And you can't either. But we can stand up for those that have been racially attacked.
It's a term of endearment in the black community. It's not the same for whites. Why isnt it? Because of the way that woman said it at the game. That's why.
And they certainly don't use it like she did. I don't mean this in a mean way. But some of you in here are really out of the loop lol.

No she doesn’t but if she was leaving a game and someone said that to her she would have been just as pissed and hurt. No one gets to decide what bothers other people.I imagine your wife doesn't scream the n word in people's faces either. So there's no reason anyone would or should call her that.
Go ask all of the black UK players and recruits that question. I've already made it clear what I think of people who think it's ok to call black people the N word. I was raised better.Great question.. let's hear it OP.
It may be coincidence, but every single person I've ever met that used that word in their every day vocabulary was a low IQ POS. Maybe she's the exception?Do you know her personally? She definitely made a very big mistake in using such despicable language, and she deserves some type of ban from UK venues. But, she has also apologized in what seems to be a sincere manner. We all make mistakes, hopefully not this big, but she doesn't deserve to be called a POS unless you have way more evidence than this incident about her character.
I'm sorry but you just called a lot of young, black men low IQ POS. This is wrong. It's cultural. It may be coincidence, but every single person I've ever met that used that word in their every day vocabulary was a low IQ POS. Maybe she's the exception?
Ok. I've fought what I think was the good fight. I'm going to move on. I have no ill will...I hope you guys feel the sameThis is an easy one, good, she messed up bad, got a just punishment... boom, back to obsessing over Duke, the NET, and how everyone is out to get us. Cats Illustrated embarrassingly couldn't even pull that off.
Never underestimate the need of white liberals to project their own inner feelings onto a sacrificial lamb...so they can virtue signal on a soapbox. Look at me. Look at me....she is a racist...I therefore cannot be.
Lots of that in this thread.
And this one brought me back. I have seen NO ONE defend her actions.Came here to see if any UK fans would be defending this woman and voila.. some things never change. You guys have this reputation for a reason
You've been a member since 2002 and have 45 posts, all on this subject defending a woman who made us look like trash. Lets be honest, you're not a UK fan. If you fought the good fight you fought it for our rivals who want us to look bad.Ok. I've fought what I think was the good fight. I'm going to move on. I have no ill will...I hope you guys feel the same
It's true over half on this subject. But I explained this earlier. You can't be gracious? You need to jab me on the way out? You've been a member since 2002 and have 45 posts, all on this subject defending a woman who made us look like trash. Lets be honest, you're not a UK fan. If you fought the good fight you fought ot for our rivals who want us to look bad.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of trolls. It's true over half on this subject. But I explained this earlier. You can't be gracious? You need to jab me on the way out?

Sure that’s why you came to a UK board with such a user name lol!Came here to see if any UK fans would be defending this woman and voila.. some things never change. You guys have this reputation for a reason

Don’t forget Madlock! Loved that era of the Pirates - actually back to Clemente! It was a hard call ! I may rotate: Parker, Stargell, Moreno, Tekulve, Garner, Ott, Bobby, Candy man, Milner, Sanguin, etc..... Probably roll with The Cobra for a while.
I was pretty bummed to see this happen at Rupp. I feel pretty strongly that she doesn't represent BBN but it's still a bummer to see someone behave this way in our home. There's no room for words like that in our basketball family.

Troll because youve been a member for almost 20 years and your only posts are vehemently defending a woman who used a vile racist word and brought shame to BBN. You're a fraud and not even man enough to claim your real team.Ha! Troll because I don't agree with you.
You're clueless or willingly ignorant or both if you think I have defended her in anyway. That you think it's ok to call her that is a problem. A deep seeded one I'd say. I'm sure you would be ok with people calling women in your family that. You're just trying to deflect from your lack of character. Hers came out as did yours.Me calling her a stupid ***** shouldn't bother you. Shouldn't bother anyone. Because what she has done is indefensible.
You are defending her. You're just trying to do so in a sly way like others. I see right through it. You putting me on that level is laughable.
No...you are looking too narrowly at this. Showing everyone what a constructive conversation could produce would be transcendent. Greater understanding from both sides...encouraging others across the state and nation to realize that they need to treat others as people and not targets for attack. But instead, and as to your liking UK90, we have an unenforceable ticket ban! I guess as long as the world knows we won't let racists buy tickets, right? That sends a much stronger message than showing racism dies when prople get to know one another, right? Your message is lazy. A university could do better and lead by doing so."Positive movement" toward what ...curing this woman of her racism? That's NOT UK's job, instead that's her job to fix herself.
The point of UK's response was to do what's best for the University and the entire UK community as a whole. Period. And allowing her to do as you suggest ..go unpunished and remain a fixture at Rupp ...would've had precisely the opposite effect, it would've resulted in real damage to UK's reputation, image and brand.
The "positive movement" needed here was toward establishing that UK absolutely will not tolerate this sort of blatant ugly racism. And the way we handled it does exactly that.

Wrong...I am a Ky fan through and through. This one justs bothers me. You'll see my first posts were over the last week. You think I knew this was coming up?Troll because youve been a member for almost 20 years and your only posts are vehemently defending a woman who used a vile racist word and brought shame to BBN. You're a fraud and not even man enough to claim your real team.
Those words don't compare at all. That's what I'm amazed that some of you can't grasp. *****? We are outlawing that word?
We will never agree. If you think calling someone a racist hurtful name is on the same ground as calling someone a *****.
That's laughable.
Coach K is a *****. Does that make me sexist too? Probably to you lol
LOL, you're 100% a fraud.No...you are looking too narrowly at this. Showing everyone what a constructive conversation could produce would be transcendent. No UK fan says they're a "Ky fan". GTFOH fraud, at least get your terminology right.Wrong...I am a Ky fan through and through. This one justs bothers me. You'll see my first posts were over the last week. You think I knew this was coming up.
You really have problem if you can't understand that nobody is defending what she said. They are saying you calling her a POS or a stupid ***** is unacceptable as well. My goodness. You can't be this unaware.Yes I did and I hate her for that. And I'm really starting to think some of you are close to this woman. Family and friends maybe. Because I can't for the life for me understand people wanting to defend her in any way. She's a stain on us as a program. We all know how some feel about Rupp. This doesn't help.
And while I know a low percentage of bbn is truly racist. This paints UK in a very negative light.

How do I prove myself?LOL, you're 100% a fraud.
