No, it's an approach for which we would've ripped silly nationally, and which would've resulted in substantial damage to our image and brand. The message would be that we whitewashed this and that we embrace open racism in our fan base (and, boy, wouldn't that be good for recruiting...).
It was vitally important that our response communicate the message that we absolutely do not tolerate this stuff in Rupp Arena. Your approach would've sent the opposite message.

It's a term of endearment in the black community. It's not the same for whites. Why isnt it? Because of the way that woman said it at the game. That's why.

I completely disagree with you. Sitting down and having a discussion about something like this goes miles further than a no-teeth ticket ban. I'm starting to doubt your intent here...are you more worried about how UK looks or actual positive movement?
I imagine your wife doesn't scream the n word in people's faces either. So there's no reason anyone would or should call her that.
I see what you are saying but it’s not always a good term between young black men. It’s ofter said with stupid on the front of it. And it still bothers me to hear it no matter who says it or what the context is.

Go ask all of the black UK players and recruits that question. I've already made it clear what I think of people who think it's ok to call black people the N word. I was raised better.
It may be coincidence, but every single person I've ever met that used that word in their every day vocabulary was a low IQ POS. Maybe she's the exception?

"Positive movement" toward what ...curing this woman of her racism? That's NOT UK's job, instead that's her job to fix herself.
The point of UK's response was to do what's best for the University and the UK community as a whole. Period. Allowing her to do as you suggest ..go unpunished and remain a fixture at Rupp ...would've had precisely the opposite effect, it would've resulted in real damage to UK's reputation, image and brand.
The "positive movement" needed here was toward establishing that UK absolutely will not tolerate this sort of blatant ugly racism. And the way we handled it does exactly that.

I was pretty bummed to see this happen at Rupp. I feel pretty strongly that she doesn't represent BBN but it's still a bummer to see someone behave this way in our home. There's no room for words like that in our basketball family.

I don't think some people truly realize how bad this makes UK look. Is that fair? No. But she has hurt this program. Mitch issued the correct response. But thanks to this woman, she's awakened old stereotypes about UK. And that really bothers me.

No...you are looking too narrowly at this. Showing everyone what a constructive conversation could produce would be transcendent. Greater understanding from both sides...encouraging others across the state and nation to realize that they need to treat others as people and not targets for attack.
