Everyone please climb out of Hagans’ ***. This is comical. Guy had a rough game. Team had a rough game. Ashton was arguing with Nick. Ok, Nick was arguing with Hagans. Hagans was disrespecting Cal. Ok, Not the first time a player has went back and forth with Cal on the bench. Hagans turned the ball over. Ok, Quickly did it in spades. Hagans sulked and didn’t get back on D. Ok, Nick did t he same damn thing in the same game. Hagans put on his hoodie. Ok, Quickly does that almost every time he goes to the bench.

Good Lord. Some of you guys are hilarious. This isn’t Armageddon. Rough game by the entire team. Happens.

If Cal doesn't care about Hagans shitting on him we probably shouldn't either. I don't like it, I think going at the coach should be reserved for the Wall's, Cousins', Davis' of the world but that's for Cal to decide not me. My main issue with Hagans is that he isn't as good at basketball as he thinks he is. He should not be taking double digit shots ever. He should be taking 5-6 layups and he struggles to make those. He's our version of Marcus Morris. Like hey Marcus you're a nice player but that is Kawhi Leonard and that's Paul George get them the ball. You don't ever take the important shots or force anything, you only take the easy shots that come to you. That's how I feel about Hagans, get the ball to Quickley, Maxey and don't f up. Simple stuff.

Hagans gets out there and plays tenacious defense, which is not easy and takes maxim effort and then is QB on offense helping get the rest of he guys easy looks. Then we see the the Nick and Quick campaign and all of a sudden you have a fertile ground for jealousy..this is big money for these kids. Calipari has made UK one and done U and the quick ticket to NBA riches, and I understand his thinking and it has provided lots of wins and excitement for UK. He might take a page out of our beloved Coach Ks(sarcasm) book on this one thing and make it more about UK, the pros will know which players they want let them make that decision.

Grown men with kids obsessed over what a 20 year old is doing in his free time. Acting like a crazy ex. Tweeting directly at him after the Tennessee game. Weird times
Tweeting to these kids anything negative is stupid and they need punched right in the mouth!! What kind of man would do that? Answer = LOSER!! It’s no wonder our fan base gets a bad name and called crazy.

I’ve defended Hagans all year, and believe we are better when he’s engaged. I will not defend his effort, mistakes, and attitude from last game though. He’s been off for more than a month and needs to get it fixed.

Hagans has the ability to be much better than he’s been the last month or so because he has been before. The troubling thing is it’s not been just a game or two. It’s completely normal for any player to have an off game or two. It happens all the time. But 6 weeks is indicative of bigger issues. My guess (and that’s all it is) is that he’s been feeling the pressure to buoy his draft status, Again, that’s understandable. It’s his future. But, I believe he’s wrong in his approach. NBA scouts will be much more impressed with him if he just runs the team and makes everyone else better like a PG is supposed to do. They’ll be more impressed with 6-10 assists, great defense, 1-2 TO’s, and 7-10 points per game than they will be with 20 points, 2-3 assists, and 4-5 TO’s. Cal always says it’s not just about scoring and he’s obviously right. But, sometimes these guys just don’t get it. The fewer games that are remaining, the greater the pressure to impress becomes. I wish he would just relax and play. He and the team would be so much better off.

Edit: Rebounding from the guard spot is also one of Hagan’s strong suits when he’s going hard. Rebounding and defense depend more on effort than anything else. He generally plays very hard and with a lot of energy, except when things aren’t going well for him and he pouts a bit. That has to stop if this team is going to make any noise.

FWIW I have an impression of Hagans that could explain his inconsistent play.

First, how I got this impression. I have a connection to one of the players' father. Through this I was offered two seats in the players 'Family and Friends' section for the Vandy game. It's floor level in the endzone on the visitors bench side of the floor. I took my daughter and it was amazing. I could see the players in action as never before.

Here's my impression of Hagans. I don't know him at all and I think his talent is unquestioned but I think he may be a bit of a clown, lacking focus. He was keenly aware of the two young couples sitting next to us. One of the guys kept calling out "Hag" (pronounced Hague) when play was on our side of the floor. Hagans was obviously aware of this, they clearly are close in some way (family or friend). Hagan's would look over and wink at this guy. To be fair, he only did this right after play stopped. I saw this maybe 3 or 4 times. That might not seem like much but to me it seemed odd given the circumstances. Hagans just didn't strike me as focused as he should have been. By contrast, guys like IQ and the rest of the players never took their eyes off the action. IQ's mom, who has gotten some press lately for being such a persistent presence on the sideline, was a hoot! She and several other ladies had 'Quickly' t-shirts on and were hilarious. I never saw IQ look our way once.

This may be normal activity at the floor level, I wouldn't know. But it struck me as odd given the gravity of the situation.

Similar thing happened at the Carolina game also. I was seated right behind the goal that the game winner was on in the 2nd row on the floor. There was a young man in a suit that was giving Ashton grief the whole game. On free throw attempts the guy was motioning and talking to him and Ashton got the ball and winked at him then shot the free throw. Then every time he was around that end the guy would keep talking smack to him and Ashton would always bark back and try to prove how good he is soon as he would get the ball afterwards. As an elite athlete you can't let that stuff get in your head and mess with your play. It is like he is constantly out to prove himself. I think he is a very good player and college PG. When he is playing team ball and playing with energy he is top 2-3 PG in the country and makes UK top 2-3 also. I just think he occasionally wants to prove he is the ALPHA of this team. Idk if that's people in his ear telling him he needs to or just how he is. I hope after Tennessee game he goes back to the team Ashton. If so we will be in the Final Four.

Ashton Hagans:

81%. Free throws
#1 in SEC in assists. 6.4 per game
#2 in SEC in steals. 2 per game

The Cats need Ashton to continue playing at a high level in order to be successful in the post season. He is the pg and this team really needs him to be focused mentally and physically in order to take this group on a massive run. Ashton Hagans is a good, solid player and at this point in the season, needs to remain the floor leader, imo. The coaches are responsible for helping AH when he needs a rest and making adjustments when the team is struggling. Players do what they are told. Coaches should be held accountable for team play because they have the ability to make substitutions, change up offenses and defenses and motivate when needed.

How about a turnover stat? 3P percentage? Those are the things that are killing us
