Shades of the AU game in last year's NCAAT when AU went the last 9:17 WITHOUT fouling. And just like that game, we were driving, driving to the basket and no calls despite contact.

NOT blaming the loss on the refs, BUT....things that make you go hmmm.

UT next possesion, missed layup, offensive board, missed 3, offensive board, made 3.

UK missed shot, UT turnover, UK missed shot, UT made baseline jumper because Nick didn't close out.

From 16 minutes left to 11 minutes left kentucky went from completely in control to in a close game because of lazy defense, reaching and fouling, not closing out and not rebounding. From 51-34 to 58-51, but now UT had confidence and a pulse.

Lot of people pointing to Hagans for last night. And yeah he wasn't great and the offense was initiated too late on several occasions. Nick dropped several rebounds, Maxey didn't move his feet on defense, Quickley turned the ball over 4 times and all of them were stupid ...walk 2x, stole from behind, horrible pass.

As a team they were outrebounded, had 14 turnovers and only 9 assists. For most of conference play UK has rebounded well, defended well, and has passed the ball. The last 15 minutes Kentucky got beat on defense, didn't rebound, and played too much 1-on-1. It was a collective Kentucky letdown. Not Hagans, not anyone else specific, everyone!

They all played poorly in the last 15 minutes. For UK to be successful, they need to have good-to-great efforts from 3 of their best 4 players...Nick, Quick, Hagans, Maxey. You could argue after Maxey's early offensive onslaught all 4 played horribly. Can't happen again. And I don't think it will.

This is a good summary. It seemed to me that our lead was at 7-10 for several minutes. Both teams kinda stalled, but then UT kept chipping away. Around the 10 min mark, I was thinking that we should call a timeout. But then I noticed that we only had 2 TO's left. No timeout until the under 8 min TV. By then, UT was even with us or about to take the lead.

Yes, I noticed! I am not blaming the refs for our implosion, however, the commentators were talking at halftime about how Barnes (who I respect) was “working” the refs for a lack of fouls on UK. I think he charmed them into a few going UT’s way.

I said before the game that I was concerned about Sirmons for obvious reasons, and also Voyard-Tadal, who also officiated the “Evansville!” game.

We still had a great opportunity to win. It’s a shame if internal drama contributed to a very bad loss.

I'm not blaming refs at all in this one. I think they did change how they called the game and they did swallow the whistle on the UK end, but this still falls squarely on our own guys not hustling and allowing UT to punk them. We had a 17 point lead, no ref should be able to take that from you.

That being said, at one point in the game the free throw numbers were very skewed towards Kentucky. By the end of the game, Tennessee had shot 1 more than UK.

There is a 3 minute stretch where there are no fouls called, from 16:54 to 13:44. In that time, UT makes up 9 points, and it is an 8 point game. Hagans is fouled at 13:44, and makes both to make it a 10 point game. UK then does not shoot another free throw until the 5:50 mark. In that same stretch, Tennessee shoots 8 free throws, with one being a miss on a front end. It is during that stretch where they take the lead. Hagans free throws at 5:50 tie it back up.

Just kind of an interesting change there. UK had a 12-3 advantage in free throws when they got up 17. By the time the lead has vanished, the gap in free throws closes to 11-14. This, all while UK is continuing to drive to the hoop, so we didn't really change styles of offense.

Regardless, it is all on us. UK is experienced enough to shake off the little slump and to change the offense and to keep Tennessee at arms length for the rest of the game. They failed to do that, all the wheels came off. They have got to get and be better all the time. Hustle is the key to me. They lacked it after they thought Tennessee would lay down.

Yep I don't blame the refs at all. We just collapsed and couldn't hit anything and they were on fire. Also, what in the world was wrong with Quickley? He was way off all night. And I don't get what the deal is with the travels. He should have been called for that in prior games as well. Why does he need to take 4 steps with no one around him? I digress though as I know he will bounce back.

I won’t blame the loss on refs either. But in EVERY SEC game, I’m rooting for us to get more fouls called on us in the first half than our opponent. Because inevitably, the refs go out in the 2nd half with an agenda to even the total foul count up.

When we go out of the first half with less fouls than the other team, I’m worried no matter what the score is.

Barnes pulled the lefty PG about 5 minutes into the 2nd half as he was struggling. Put more athleticism on the floor in the Jordan kid who made some plays. Kept that lineup for about 5 minutes during which time the momentum clearly shifted.
