Just one more post to clarify what I “meant.”

I can only imagine how difficult it must be to be a parent or loved one of the other eight people killed in that crash suffering a terrible loss as well, but all the news channels are talking about is Kobe and his legacy. It must feel to them like his death was the only one that was important or that mattered.

I get that Kobe was a legend. I understand why his passing is such big news, but I feel that it is unfortunate that all the news outlets aren’t more sensitive to the fact that he wasn’t the only one lost and give a little more attention to the magnitude of the tragedy.

I also realize that thousands of people die every day with no news coverage but that really has no relevance to the point I was making. In general those people’s loved ones don’t have to listen to non stop coverage about the tragic death of the famous person who was killed along side them while their death is mentioned as an also ran.

I’m sorry that I somehow punched a hot button issue for you by daring to mention that I feel terrible for the families of all the other people killed, and I think they deserve some recognition and sympathy as well. I certainly didn’t mean to start some stupid back and forth about it.

I rarely respond to people who dis me or make fun of me in here but I felt that this topic was important enough that I wanted to explain myself and my feelings.

Now I am done and I won’t bring it up again.

You just have the same “no ****, Sherlock” take-quakes as generic old ladies, but in real life - they can’t be called out. “It’s unfortunate that large media corporations aren’t sensitive to the needs of of a handful of families over the hundreds millions of customers they otherwise serve...” - “No ****, Sherlock.”

If the families think of their loved ones as also-rans, that’s their problem. And nobody is making them watch the news. TV is a multi-billion dollar business, they know what they’re doing: it’s not show friends, it’s Show Business.

We should all go around and share our favorite memories of someone else besides Kobe who died in the crash.

If these 24-second violations that are being done in tribute to KB were happening in college ball today, you can bet refs would be calling technicals for some obscure reason like "Manipulating the game clock for non-basketball reasons" or watching the ballhandler like a hawk and calling a travel or a carry if possible. Then they'd go to the monitor to make sure the tenths of a second were right after the violation was called.

Joey, just one more remark in response to something you said.

I certainly don’t see myself as someone who can’t be called out. I may be old, but I still have a functioning brain and I know that by posting in here I leave myself open to people not liking me, people not agreeing with me, and people calling out any dumb takes.

It’s all good and I’m no snowflake. :)

Can’t imagine the pain his family is feeling, losing a father, a husband, a daughter, and a sister in the blink of an eye. Just gut-wrenching...

He’s my generation and about the same age. I had just graduated college when Kobe entered the NBA. So his career spanned almost my entire adulthood. He was the father of 4, oldest was 13. I’m father of 3, oldest is 14.

Anything else?

Weekend shorts:

Dinner at Tony’s Friday night was WAF. Place has really stepped their game up. Sir Barton topped with garlic butter FTW.

Saturday headed north with some of the lass’s friends. Dinner at Sotto was da bomb.com. Caught the game at Iqby’s, then rocked the house with private room at Tokyo Kitty.

Will be back up there next week, Willy and I gonna watch the game. Best steak in cincy??

-Not really a Kobe guy, nor a Kobe hater, but definitely got misty looking at all the stuff yesterday. Seems really odd the NBA didn't cancel the games. One thing you can say about the guy, it clearly affected all the players and that speaks volumes to his character within the sport.

-What a strange team we have this year. Beats #1 MSU, #3 UL, TT at Lubbock in their biggest home game ever, at Ark in their comeback and yet loses focus and drops 3 of the worst games in Cal's tenure. Seems like a 10 point lead is the worst case scenario for them. Richard's couldn't stay on the floor more than a few minutes at a time the past 2 season is now our best player and an AA. Lose the top overall recruit in the middle of January. Our 4 toughest away games all on Saturdays in January. Odd year.

-I thought I was a homer, don't say anything negative about Hagans over on HOB. My word.

-That said, we HAVE to get more consistency out of Hagans and Maxey.

-Ate at Graze, name aside, and it was pretty fine. Nothing outstanding other than having TVs all over the place and great service.

-Last night sous vide a couple flanks for beef and broccoli. Quick sear on the stove, reduced the jus for a lovely sauce, served with brown rice. A+

-Lol at IU fans throwing stuff at Maryland players the day after Cal calls them out. So fantastic. F*ck that dumpster fire of a program.

-Ken-pom taking a bit to sort everything out, Duke with #5 adjD. K.

-ACC is trash this year.

The reports coming out of John Altobeli and his wife and daughter all dying in the crash as well is crazy in its own right.

They left a 20 year old son and 14 year old daughter, and I can’t imagine being 14 and losing both my parents and sister in the same moment.

Not to mention he is a legendary college baseball coach at his level.

-graze is solid. But its *loud*. Too many hard surfaces.

-im a pretty stoic fellow. Couldn't watch the coverage after they announce his daughter (and a teammate) were involved. That's a little too "in my kitchen" if you will. Life is tenuous, try to be nice to people gang.

-rocked my new kyrie "flytrap 2's" last night. Pretty sweet considering they were made by vietnamese toddlers. Im a hypocrite...but they were on sale and there are no bball shoes made in a 1st world country.

-that was a big boy win Saturday.

-Nothing left to say re: Kobe. Per usual, GYERO takes are the best "everyman" takes. Not ALL of them, of course. But you good ones, you know who you are.

-Metronet putting down cable in our neighborhood and several others. Besides the usual barking about people's yards being dug up, randoms stalking around the neighborhood, etc., now I've got the extra anxiety of my Ring doorbell notifications going off a few times each hour and the fear that they'll leave my gate open and the puppy will escape. Ready for that nonsense to end.

-Kelvin Sampson doesn't get enough notice for how good a coach he is. The guy just WINS. He won at Wazzoo and he is still putting up big numbers at Houston. I'm sure they'll throw all the money in the world at Chris Beard, but if that doesn't work, I'm not sure Texas could do better than Sampson. He knows the state and won big in that league back in the day at OU.

-Still think Danny Hurley gets it done at UConn, as bad as they look right now. They're young, and better help is on the way.

-This is the one week each year when the NFL Network airs all those old Super Bowl highlight shows from NFL Films. Love those things.

-Nice of tOSU to finally win a game and boost our profile ever so slightly.

Who is the consensus guy to replace Cal if we were to need to replace him in the immediate future? Is there one?

Bennett, Beard, and Marshall are hard passes based on style/fit, Donovan and Stevens are staying in the NBA, excluding the 3 mentioned pretty much every other top college coach is old or almost guaranteed to retire at their current gig.

* Buddy of mine posted an interview question he asked Kobe at the 2013 All Star game. He used to be a Spanish language reporter for the Pelicans, so his question went something like this...

kobe, who do you think will win the world cup? and, please answer in spanish if you can.

And of course he quickly gave a nice quick breakdown of the event in both English and Spanish. That's pretty f'ing cool.

He's got 4 kids as well, similar ages, but not sure if his oldest is 13 or 14. For the record.

* I'm pretty much all in on the Little Nas X bandwagon. Have been for a while now, but when a raging homo black 16 year old who lives in his mom's basement shows up to win his first country music Grammy in a pink custom made cosplay rhinestoned cowboy/sexual bondage outfit......:fistbump::fistbump:

Fact of the matter is our big lead drops gave coincided with some ridiculously lopsided officiating foul call deficits- including a few cartoon-level 8-0, 9-2, etcs.

Now, our D, rebounding and Hagans have also played a roll but it’s difficult to maintain flow and leads when you’re getting whistled so hard.

Go ahead- I’m just a big ol’ whiny homer. Guess Ryen Russilo, Matt Norlander, Rob Dauster, Calipari, etc. are all UK homers, too.
