Glad we switched to zone that last possession so UGA could make that 3!
Usually the home team can rely on home treatment and *checks notes*.. Georgia JUST tied UK this half in fouls..
Our defense would look a heck of a lot better if *checks notes again* .. the opposing team had 8 fouls and we only had 1.

UK literally switched to zone for one possession a few minutes ago. The commentators commented on it. Then UGA made a 3. Quit making things up.
Getting beat off the dribble with no help is the answer? I’m speaking to you from the stand point of some one who has had to make zone vs man coaching decisions at high levels. What does playing have to do with coaching?
This team CAN play man defense fine when they want to. They are young and lazy, and when they get a lead or score they relax on the other end. When they learn to play with the same intensity for 40 minutes and not take plays off, they will be fine.
Zone has also given up points 100% of the time this game compared to man giving up points probably 50% of the time
zone is for pansies and less athletic players. We will be fine with man. All this zone ******** is ridiculous. Just an easy branch for Cal bashers to grab onto.
Didn’t happen. The sideline reporter said don’t be surprised if they go zone. Maxey wasn’t in a zonal defending position on that shot. Not to mention no team will zone intentionally one trip.

Coach sees this "How do we win this game, identify weaknesses, coaching opportunity, and develop players needed to win in NCAA tourney."

You really believe that? If we don’t go zone against Arkansas we lose like we did to usc. The easy branch is 1 title with all the talent we’ve had since cal came but I’m not going there. Loooking ahead no zone we get put out of the NCAA the first weekend

I dont coach basketball and the principles of zonal defending are pretty universal throughout sports. You’re not used to hearing a coach speak you need it broken down like jimmy dykes between the pipes
Zone sucks. It's insane every year ppl think this is a magical defense that just shuts ppl down. The only time you should run zone is if you cant rebound or are in foul trouble
You don't hire a passing oriented offensive coordinator then ask why he ain't running the triple option.

lol!!!! Two possessions is a great sample size to go on. As I have stated in numerous threads, all it takes is one positive thing to happen while playing zone and that will be the end of it. Toughest shot taken of the night was made during that possession and back to man.
It’s not magic and it doesn’t shut people down. BUT when guys are getting beat left and right in their 1v1 matchups zone becomes the answer. We just beat a team bc of zone for crying out loud! Something we have don very little of all year. Zone has won us one game and lose zero.

What is the fascination with zone defense? If it is so efficient then why does 1 school (Syracuse) only primarily use it as the main defense. If it was so much more effective more would focus on it.
Also, speaking of certainty on what games would be won or lost without zone is only an opinion considering there is no way of knowing if it's true. You cant prove whether the freshman would again go full steam on defense shut down Arkansas and win or not. It's nice to debate differences in game plans but calling a HOF coach prideful because he doesnt do what you think is the best is a little condescending of you to say.
