Comparing Tubby's last 4 years here is pretty damn close to the last four years of Cal, whether you choose to admit it or not. The trajectory is not good, don't know why you can't see that.
I think the trajectory is fine. Only alarming thing that has been pointed out is the missing out on numerous big men in recruiting. Clarke and Boston are absolute monsters coming in next year. Still think with our guard play this team can make a run in March. 2017 we lost on a buzzer beater in the E8 to eventual National Champs (Higgins officiated game). Last year we lost to a team in OT we had already beaten twice (always hard to beat a team 3 times in one year no matter the circumstances), not to mention Auburn was the hottest team in the country at the time and was one bad call away from playing Texas Tech in the title game. Cal has us consistently in contention for a Final 4 at least 1 out of every 2 years. Tubby’s arguably best team lost to a 9 seed UAB in the 2nd round. Cal hasn’t even came close to a loss that bad in March.

You don’t know what you’re talking about because they’re not close at all.

Tubby had a losing record against the top 25 his last four years. Cal doesn’t.

Tubby averaged 25 wins and was clearly trending down. Cal averaged 29 wins and has simply had a cycle of a title contending year following by a single rebuilding year.

Tubby only managed 1 SEC title and 1 SEC conference title, while Cal’s won 2 and 3 respectively the last 4 years.

We were unranked in 44 of the 69 games during Tubby’s last two seasons. So we weren’t even in the polls for 64% of our games. That’s god awful and unacceptable.

Cal’s last two seasons, we were unranked in only 9 of our 74 games (12%), so obviously not some massive downward trend.

This year’s certainly been disappointing, but Tubby last 4 seasons don’t come close to Cal’s last four. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

One day Cal and Rat Face will look back and wonder why they think 1 and Done is good for college basketball. The model wins games, but fails to win championships

WTF are you talking about? You said the last 4 years of Tubby compare to Cal, they don’t. Is that not what you said? They don’t. Then you posted comparing national championships?? Ok, so now we’re comparing their whole tenure? You think Tubby has been as good as Cal? I mean you don’t even know what the hell youre arguing, just slinging ****. Either way you clearly have a hard on for Tubby, I think Cal is way better, like most sane people.
Know what you are right about last 4 years, so let me fix it.
National Championships last 4 years:
Tubby-0
Cal-0

who had the most talent last 4 years, Tubby his last 4 years or Cal the last 4 years?

We heard the same thing about EJ two years ago, Maxey and Whitney last year, etc.... it always seems to be “next year man, just wait for next year”

Oh I’m sorry does recruiting not count as part of coaching? Are we mad at Cal because he didn’t build dog **** rosters like Tubby? Who had more seniors, Tubby or Cal? Does experience matter, Tubbys teams were a hell of a lot more experienced. We’re all frustrated with Cal right now, comparing him to Tubby is BS. If a rival fan compares him to Tubby I’d tell them to buzz off. There’s plenty to gripe about (I guess) right now then to make up stupid **** like Cal and Tubby are equal, give me a break

It's a complete garbage comparison. Do people not remember how bad the recruiting was from 2005-2007? Tubby's last 2 years were lucky to be 2nd round in the NCAA tournament and were clearly outclassed by top level teams. Even Calipari's down year teams could still compete with the elite teams. I hold the opinion that if Tubby Smith had continued as coach, the results would have been similar to Gillespie.

I swear some of you on here have comprehension issues. I never once compared Cal to Tubby. I was a dedicated member of the LOD last few years Tubby was here. I am comparing records, mostly titles. I simply pointed out that Cal has had tons more talent than Tubby. And don’t throw out that Tubby had more experienced players than Cal, Cal chooses to do it this way, so that excuse is weak sauce.

And yet some posters on here supported Tubby right to the end, just like some do here with Cal. If the next 4/5 years are like the last 4/5 years have been, will you continue to defend a system that isn’t working?

its a bad argument and makes you sound unreasonable. Tubby absolutely sucked at the end, just move on from this argument. We both know it to be true. You post on here all the time, you don’t need to grasp for straws and start making up ****. We all know Cal is better than Tubby, just drop this one and move on.

Whitney was actually ranked one spot higher than Maxey out of high school. Neither were “elite” recruits. Maxey has been pretty damn good this year. Not sure what your expectations were for him but he’s lived up to them thus far imo minus the streakiness of his 3pt shot. He’s the least of our issues right now and if not for him we’d have lost to Mich St, UL, and Georgia. Clarke is higher touted than both by far and is our biggest incoming talent since Towns.

WRONG! I love how people can make up stories as facts to promote their own agenda, in this case trying to make Cal look better than he really is.

Tubby won the SEC regular season 5 times, 97-98, 99-00, 00-01, 02-03, 04-05. He also won the SEC Tourney 5 times in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2004.

Cal has won the SEC regular season 5 times , 09-10, 11-12, 14-15, 15-16, 16-17. Cal has won the SEC Tourney 6 times, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018.

Cal has won the SEC Tourney one time more than Tubby did in 10 years. The thing that separates Cal and gives him more leeway is he was able to go one game further in the Big Dance to advance to the F4 whereas Tubby usually flamed out in the E8.

You might want to read that again before you try to call someone out for making up facts. He was referring to the final four years for Tubby and Cal that another poster said were similar.

Four more elite eights, three more final four appearances and one more championship appearance. The postseason case isn’t even close.

We’ve been obviously more successful, unless it’s just title or bust, which it apparently is for you.

No, the issue is you weren’t paying attention. He said that Tubby’s last 4 years and Cal’s last 4 years were similar.

The numbers I gave were limited to just those four years, so the numbers I gave were correct.

You might want to learn to read more carefully.

30-7 and an elite eight isn’t a good year...right.
Anyone who thinks that being a 2 seed and making the elite isn't a great year is just too dumb for words. It isn't an elite 8 year but it is a great one . Cal has won more games then any coach in a P5 conference since he came here . He has gone farther on average then any p5 coach as well . NUFF SAID.

Tubby went 45-25 his final 2 years with second round exits both times and terrible recruiting classes. Yep that just like the past few years

I’d give you the 03 team, and that’s it.

Last years team peaked during the regular season, reminds me of a lot of Tubby teams. Rather not dwell on the disappointing, 03 team may be the only one I don’t recall his 3rd best team off the top of my head.
