They had 41 points with 11+ minutes to go. Then Hagans. And then they scored 40 more

We got up 54-41 with 11:41 to go when EJ somehow hit 2 free throws. Here are the next 66 seconds:

Hagans man hits a 3
Hagans dribbles off his knee out of bounds
Hagans gives up an old fashioned 3
Hagans walks
Hagans man hits a 3

54-50. That was the crucial point of the game.

Edit: in fairness, need to revise the above. Went back and watched that stretch again. Aside, Jon Sunvold actually said, “can SC change the pace of this game?” right when they got to 41. I remember thinking, dumb comment. Heh. They sure as hell did!

Anyway, the first 3 wasn’t Hagans. EJ had corner responsibility, and HAD BOTH FEET IN THE PAINT, naturally they hit a corner 3. And away we go.

Hagans is the best player on this team. You're blind if you dont see that. Kid creates our offense. Look what happened when cal MISTAKENLY took him out under 2 minutes. IQ pull up jumper for 3? Juzang quick trigger? *** outta here with this trash. If you're gonna do whippets before and during the game atleast put your helmet on!

Ladies and gentlemen, let me uncomfortably introduce you to something the dark side refers to as... point shaving.

Spot on we can’t win anything big with him as our point - he can’t finish at the rim - he can’t shoot consistently and he turns it over to much

Just went thru the play by play. I’m not picking on Hagans - virtually everyone was bad tonight. But he’s the leader, the engine. He simply can’t play like he did tonight in the second half if we’re going to do much. It’s hard for me to get his “I wasn’t really ready to play in the Elite 8” comments out of my head.

Here’s his total contribution from 11:41 of half 2 thru the end of the game:

Turnover
Foul
Turnover
Missed FT
Made FT
Foul
Dunk
Missed FG

Missed 3
Made FT
Made FT
Missed layup
Missed layup

4 fouls
2 turnovers
3-4 at the line
1-5 from field
2 missed layups

this thread is very telling about our team right now. If our main guard cant make plays....watch out, its gonna be a bumpy ride.

I think sc took advantage of hi percent. shots, while we seemed to give up on em....

I recall a sequence of about 30 seconds where EJ missed a free throw, they got a fastbreak layup (somehow), EJ missed a layup off a pretty nice feed from Hagans and we gave up an open 3

8 point swing

Let's be honest here...Hagans is a player who probably should be seeing less than 10 minutes of playing time at a program like Kentucky during his sophomore year. You saw tonight the results you are going to get.

But of course Cal feels it necessary to bash Sestina instead.
Other than Quickley, and maybe Richards, Cal could have criticized just about anyone and have been on solid ground. BTW, don’t think he really bashed him. I listened to his post-game, in a couple of spots he didn’t give a name, just said “he”, and at least once he was talking about Nate I think (specifically when he said one guy gave up 7 offensive rebounds in the first half). Nate wasn’t good today. Most of them weren’t.

This was the moment I knew we might be in trouble. It just all unraveled from there.

Hagans was also terrible in the Evansville game. We need more consistency from our point guard.

Up 54-41 with under 12 to go and in foul trouble Cal has to slow it down and get good shots or get fouled
They we're in foul trouble too.
Can't let Hagans play that reckless.

he can’t finish at the rim
this is what I cannot figure out to save my life. He is a big strong kid - take a good look next time you see he, IQ and Maxey standing together. They're all supposedly 6'3, but no way. Hagans is a good bit taller, and a lot more filled out. Still. He routinely gets to the rim, and misses a layup. Twice in the last 4 minutes tonight. I don't understand it. Has to be in his head now.

EJ, same, doesn't happen as often, only because he shoots less. He's 6'10 260, and can't finish. Just scratch your head stuff....

EJ is as soft as Charmin. A guy his size should be owning the paint.

What he said. Hagans is not capable of leading a team to anything big. His game is very flawed!

Hagans last 5 games:

30.2% FG
3.6 turnovers/game

He needs to get it together. Cal needs to stop propping him up and lay into him.

Hagans is inconsistent just like every other player on the team
IF Hagans is the best player on the team, then he can not keep missing layups, he can't miss clutch free throws, he can't continue with the stupid & unforced mistakes. He must get the ball to the right people to score

It seems that someone has told him he needs to score more to improve his draft stock. He has totally went away from being a pass first PG to a Russell Westbrook I will get mine PG.

if you are talking about the first half when hagens came out he was asking to. go back and watch him right before he was shooting free throws

Waaaaaaaaaa?

R u c re s?
Well, I can’t definitively say for certain. But, when it happens it probably would look something like that.

I love Hagans on the team, but that was a bad stretch. He’ll get better because of it I’m sure.

Agree - he is so important- trust me when Cal says we played undisciplined he’s talking mainly of Hagans- if he just would play solid not gamble on D - take care of the ball - make the easy play
He just was very careless last night and it hurt the team. He knows it - smart kid - most important player - if he plays bad we do
