Should’ve been good to go by mid September or early October at the latest with a normal rehab. Has obviously had several setbacks.

We might as well face it, he's not going to play this year, and we will more than likely never see him suit up for us. There is not enough "there" for Cal to play him. Every player we've ever had that is in that same mold (Mulder, Baker) has not gotten the chance they deserve. Hawkins and Willis were lucky to see the floor as much as they did. There is not enough "star" value for Cal to give him a realistic shot.
Sounds like a UaVel troll trying to get him to transfer. LOL

How much you want to bet he will never play at UK?

You guys see how star freshman struggle a lot of time. Allen is a lesser recruit, coming off injuries and he doesn't have the chemistry with the team yet. Just doesn't make sense to play him. Give him more rehab and bring him on next season.

Didn't he just tear it in January of 19?

Nine months to a year is more realistic....especially for a high level athlete. I'm sure the guy could run at the YMCA, but we are talking about a jump from HS to college.

I don't think a year is out of question at all.

Not to mention, we have no idea how significant of a tear it was or if anything else was damaged- at least I don't.

I think Adrien Petersons recovery really warped a lot of "fans" timetable for recovery. A year seems like a reasonable timetable to recover from an acl. These turds expect him to be out there in 3-6 months now.

With that said I think Jemarl Baker drug his recovery out way too long (nearly 2 years).

It seems like every single year we have one player that we are waiting on to come back from an injury or enrollment. Diallo, Vanderbilt, PJ last year and now Allen. This must be a curse of some sorts lol #CurseOfRuppRafters
Nerlens....Poythress....Baker

I wouldn't count on any major contributions this year.

He's the lowest rated recruit in the class. Freshmen typically have to adjust to the college game. He's coming off an ACL injury--and wasn't there another injury from a car accident or something?

He hasn't been able to practice as much as guys like Juzang/Whitney.

Physically he won't be up to speed. Mentally he'll probably have some things to figure out.

We've seen Baker, Herro, Juzang, etc supposed to be elite shooters and took a while to figure out their shot at the college level.

No one’s timetable or perception is warped. Yea a year is possible. So is 2 years. Or forever.

But the fact is the standard timetable for return to run and jump sport after ACL reconstruction with proper and successful surgical intervention in a healthy young male in 2020 is more like 8-10 months.

So either his surgeon didn’t do a good job or he’s had setbacks. Alex Poythress is more the norm. It’s not 1995 anymore. Doesn’t take much to have a slight setback, though.

So I’ve read.

Or maybe there aren’t physical setbacks, he just isn’t ready to see the court for this team.

Edit to add: I have no idea. Just wasn’t sure there was any definitive news. I might have overlooked something.

could be. But regardless, he should be practicing now without restrictions and apparently Cal or Justus recently mentioned he “wasn’t close” or something.

That’s just not normal in any fashion.

Could very well be the case idk but it wouldn't surprise me.

Juzang gets 10 minutes a game, Baker got 9.1 last year here. He didn’t want that so left. Those meager stats he is putting up at Arizona is a 21 year old Baker, Juzang is still only 18. Much much more upside. Baker is what he will always be. Even Arizona sees that, why can’t you?
The point is a Jr Baker is much better than a Fr Juzang. It hurts our team. What can't you see that?

Wasn't close could mean he isn't in game conditioning. Who knows. I appreciate everyone's perspective.

Again, I don't know the details on DA's injury outside of ACL tear. None are the same. When I tore mine it took a month before they would do surgery on it because I couldn't straighten the leg and had to do pre-surgery PT...also had meniscus.

All that said, I do recall Cal rambling about DA not paying attention to something from the bench and Cal getting on him about it. DA being not close could be a variety of things.

Time will tell I guess.

Sorry, but did he steal your girlfriend or something?? He’s going to play when he’s ready!! That’s it!! He has a lot more game than any of the players you mentioned an he’s going to become a star for Kentucky. I’m sure you’re 12, if not you sure act like it. I swear we have some many Chicken Littles here it isn’t funny.

Let’s just let him get completely healthy and make sure his confidence in himself is where it should be before we just throw him to the lions. I have 100% faith in John Calipari to do the best thing for his players, if you don’t, we’ll pay more attention!

Sorry if I sound mean about it ! I apologize. We just can’t know what’s going on with these kids, and to just make up stuff like that is the way stuff gets started. Anyway, he’ll be fine and needs to take all the time it takes to get 100%. When he does he’ll contribute and be a very good player.

Because he wouldn’t contribute anything extra to the team. It’s not hard to understand. He is the 7th man on Arizona. He isn’t a factor for them either.

I want him to play and think that he can really help us, but history has shown that he will not be given an equal opportunity.
What the hell are you even talking about?? We’ve never been unfair to any kid here, to even say that is just wrong in soo many ways.
The best players play, bottom line!! If he’s one of the best players, he’ll play. It’s not Cals fault he’s been hurt and it’s got nothing to do with any other player that’s ever been here before. Honestly, that may be the worst post in the history of rivals!!

There's no way to know who's better than whom. We've thought plenty of people would be stars that didn't pan out or took a long time to develop.

You say we have Chicken Littles. Why? Because people aren't sure a freshman that's been out for an injury isn't going to come in and set the world on fire? That means I have common sense.

Cal has played guys like Willis over SKJ and Gabriel. Kinda funny how we always forget that when we sell the "Cal won't play a 4 star over a 5 star even if he's better.

Quade Green was a 5 star and lost minutes to Shai Gilgeous Alexander.

Quickley was a 5 star and Cal played 4-star Herro.

But sure man. Cal only plays the 5 stars regardless of ability.

Bet we could use him tonight at UGa since we're struggling for depth because Juzang is giving us nothing. Again, Baker gives us more than Juzang. It's not hard to understand.

Hey I love Baker, and to me he’s always going to be a Ky Wildcat, I really loved the way he was playing defense at the end of the year last year also. I wanted him to come back and just figured with another year in our system and gaining some confidence that players seem to gain as they get older that he’d become a big contributor.

Saying that, I believe he saw all the hype around the guys coming in and thought it would be better for him, of course it’s hard to know how fast a freshman will get it and become what they can and in this case he probably would’ve gotten a lot of minutes that he thought he wouldn’t. I do believe Johnny is the better all around player even at his age, I’m sure when he hits a few big shots he’ll b a big help. Right now he’s like most freshman, so scared to mess up and always looking over their shoulder. It’s coming though and once he gets that confidence back he’s going to be awesome.

I do agree with you about Baker and believe he’d definitely help this team. He’s a great young man and those injuries really hurt him starting out, but I hope he tears it up from here on out and wish him all the best. He’s got a great stroke and plays hard on the defensive end so he’ll probably get a chance to make a lot of money one day. Thanks

I take the he’s not ready comment as game ready. I don’t think anyone would expect him to be game ready at this point in the season. If he isn’t practicing at all that is a little concerning to me.

This. 95% of freshman fit this description. Imagine yourself as a 17-18 year old, a year removed from HIGH SCHOOL, in a totally new system, playing in front of 20,000+ people, in arenas many times larger than you ever have before (think sight lines and backdrops for shooting), many times on ESPN or CBS. Where a year ago you were lucky to play in front of 1500.

The last I heard he was doing some things in practice but would have soreness the next day so they were bringing him along slowly.

This has been oddly quite. Seems like a definite red shirt situation. Unless he sees himself as a definite NBA prospect then maybe he doesn’t red shirt. Just seems likely since the season is half over.

None of us know for sure what's going on, but common sense, (I know....I know....).., tells us he's physically and mentally too far behind to step in and be a significant contributor at this point, else he'd be playing.

My guess: the staff sees the benefit for the young man, as well as the team, and have decided to allow him to come along at the pace that best suits his needs. I think we'll see the young man suit up for our Cats next season and be ready to go.
