I have a decade on you and remember the Civil Rights marches , riots, bitterness well. Martin Luther King, RFK, Malcom X gave their lives for what they should have had all along, equal rights. But you can't be indignant over a pizza guy and let a politician go scott free

For those crying that Papa John is absolutely a racist, have a look at the exact quote of what he said...
"Colonel Sanders called blacks n-----s,"

That wasn't PJ calling anyone that. He was saying that Sanders called them that and they still bought his product.
Was it a terrible comparison? Absolutely. Should he have said it? Of course not. Should he have apologized and asked for forgiveness? Definitely. But, PJ did not direct that word toward anyone. He was quoting a comment someone else had already made years earlier.

By comparison, we have a sitting Gov. in Virginia that was caught wearing blackface in photos back in college and somehow managed to keep his job. Yet, PJ is the Devil incarnate because he quoted Colonial Sanders.
You were the first.

No, Junior Bridgeman

You’re an imbecile if you think Junior Bridgeman was the one funding that nonsense. Junior was one of the few on that board with actual integrity. I can think of several other former shady *** board members who would have been more likely to fund that nonsense. Junior definitely not one of them.

Name the best pizza place around Louisville or Lexington. And please don’t say Godfathers. Pizza around here is awful for the most part.
Wicks, Impellizerri’s, And Bearno’s are all good. I’m partial to Hometown though because I grew up on it. The first one opened in LaGrange back when I was a kid. It was our go to place growing up and it’s still good to this day. They have steadily grown and like to keep their small town roots by opening stores in rural communities.

Used to love hometown. Don’t really care for it now. Feel like it has went down hill as far as quality. At least in Shelbyville anyway.

uh, don’t try Spinelli’s in Louisville. It’s awful, and a few years back, every location in town failed the health code inspection at the same time lol

Had it delivered to the AirBnB this time last year after the Tyler Childers show because it was the only place still open.

Took an hour, cost like $30, but damn if that wasn't a good pizza. I think that might have been more to do with circumstances than the quality of the pie though.

They had pretty good pizza when I used to go there. Like a New York style pie. Huge slices, very thin crust. I used to get their veggie.

They are in Louisville and they are amazing. Are you saying you’ve never eaten at a Wendy’s? You live in a cave in the mountains and trap your food?
You're almost right, we do eat a lot of wild game. We have ate at Wendy's but never heard of a burger bar and a mussels.

How does alleged racism by Adolph Rupp have anything to do with it?

Arguably the most famous person associated with UK is Adolph Rupp. Fair or not, Adolph Rupp is largely accused of being racist. Papa John got in a lot of trouble for a racist comment. With all that said, I don't think it would look good for UK to be associated with another alleged racist.

Sidenote: Easy on your trigger. I said that Adolph Rupp was LARGELY ACCUSED, not that he was racist.

Of course you had to make an issue of Rupp being an accused racist. How many decades was that? Let's keep that issue front and center.
That is like saying your neighbor is an accused rapist. No proof but let's put that out there anyway.

Was it decades ago? Yes, but still largely associated with the man that the university's basketball arena is named after. It's a part of UK's history that we would like to not think about. Bringing one racist into the university of a largely alleged racist is not a good look. The demographic of UK's recruits and their families might see an issue with that.

If my neighbor was an accused rapist I would warn my wife and my children and we would be nice to the guy. He sure as hell wouldn't be invited to family dinners or BBQs though.

UK tried to recruit black players early on but had no luck until they signed Tom Payne. Joe B Hall an assistant to Rupp tried recruiting several.
UK recruited All-State swingman Jerome Perry of Louisville in 1967 but he chose Western Kentucky. The Wildcats tried hard to land high scoring forward Felix Thruston of Owensboro in the spring of 67. And Owensboro was definitely "Wildcat country" even more so than Hazard. Thruston visited the UK campus and reportedly even signed a grant-in-aid (scholarship) with UK but not the (binding) national letter-of-intent. He wound up elsewhere. Close but no cigar for UK.

UK targeted at least one more black player in its 1967 recruiting efforts. He was Parade HS All-American forward Howard Porter of Sarasota FL. UK coaches were interviewed by Reds radio announcer Claude Sullivan (former UK basketball announcer) during a Reds exhibition game in Florida that spring. They glowingly praised Porter (that was legal in those days) and declared their hopes of signing him. Sullivan told them it was too late, for he was headed to Villanova. Sullivan proved right in his prediction on Porter.

Hall continued to recruit black players as part of his UK recruiting efforts. One of his top targets in 1968 was 6-8 big man Joby Wright of Savannah GA. Wright was yet another Parade 1st team HS All-American and visited the UK campus that spring. But Wright wound up at Indiana where he ultimately played for legendary IU coach Bobby Knight.

Finally 1969 rolled around. Black players continued to dominate the landscape in Kentucky HS basketball. Once again two KY players were chosen Parade HS All- Americans that spring. They were 7 footer Tom Payne of Louisville Shawnee and "shooting star" Ron King of Louisville Central (1969 Kentucky HS champions). Both players visited the UK campus later that spring.

King opted for Florida State following in the footsteps of Kentuckian Dave Cowens to play for Hugh Durham. Payne was highly recruited by major schools across the country and narrowed his choices to UK and UCLA. He also played in the Dapper Dan Classic (like McDaniels) and waited until June before finally making his college choice. And it was Kentucky!!!

Finally the Wildcat basketball program would be integrated. The 1960's were dominated by black stars like Lew Alcindor and Cazzie Russell. And teams like Loyola of Illinois and Texas Western had mostly black players in their starting lineups. But Payne would prove to be ineligible to play as a freshman at UK or even earn a scholarship due to some academic shortcomings. His parents paid his way to attend UK as a freshman and he played on an AAU team in Lexington that year.

Payne got his grades in order and became a star on the UK varsity in the 1971 season. He earned All-SEC honors and wound up declaring himself eligible for the NBA Hardship Draft of underclassman in 1971. He was picked second by the Atlanta Hawks behind Nate Williams of Utah State, who was chosen by the Cincinnati Royals. Payne was the second "One and Done" player ever at UK after LeRoy Edwards, who left UK in 1935 to play pro basketball after his sophomore season.
UK also signed football stars Darryl Bishop of Louisville Seneca and Elmore Stephens of Louisville Thomas Jefferson to football scholarships in 1969. Bishop actually became the first black player to wear the UK basketball uniform by starting at guard for the Wildkittens (UK frosh team) in December of 1969 and was a varsity walk-on in 1972, as was Stephens. Both were All-State basketball players in 1969

Doesn't sound like a coach that is racist to me.

Just keep bringing it up hoping it will make it true.

There is literally a documentary about him being racist. Jon Voight played him in Glory Road and portrayed him as a racist. It's largely perceived that he was racist. I don't know how you can deny the fact that he is perceived as a racist.

Kids and young adults of all races hear the "n-word" in music and popular culture so often these days it has become a bit hypocritical to call anyone out for using it.
It's a bit like the word "Nazi". That word gets tossed around so often these days that the meaning and implications of being associated with that group have become watered down.
If you truly want to remove a word from the vernacular because of it's vile history then no one should be using it.

Leftists, including the 88% of blacks who vote dem, don't give a **** about racism or the "N-word" unless they can use it as a cudgel against a political opponent or someone guilty of "wrong think" or "wrong speak." Gov. Northam, Juicy Smollett, Hillary's decades-long mentor KKK Robert Byrd etc. etc? Racism "rules" just don't apply.

I think the best two pizza places in the Louisville area are Old School New York and Frescellis. Frescellis is actually in Buckner, but close enough. Both serve excellent pies in my opinion. I do agree that Wicks, Tony Boomboz, Impellizeris, Coles, Bearnos, etc, are very mediocre pizzas.

Everyone has there own taste in food, so no ones opinion is any better than the opinion of another. That being said, I don't think any of the paces you mention make very good pizza. Of course I like New York style pizza far and away above all others. For me Old School New York Pizza and Frescellis Pizza are far and away the pizza in the Louisville area.

I've had Both Freschelli's and Old School New York. I'm a native of OC (though I live in Taylorsville now) I like both of them. Freschellis is the best of the two if you can catch them when their open. Since they moved to Buckner, it's been hit or miss and they've kept odd hours. Old School is best if you order a whole Pie, I go in for their two slices and a drink special for lunch occasionally, but those slices aren't quite as fresh usually. honestly, they should consider a lunch buffet as opposed to the slices, they'd do gangbusters if they did that.
