There are several future NBA players on the roster. There are very few college players. Totally different games.

So Jarret Culver and De'Andre Hunter ending up going 4 and 6 in the draft had nothing to do with their college teams meeting in the title game. And it's a total coincidence that when I pull up the 2018 Villanova roster on College Basketball Reference, the top 5 scorers all have the NBA logo next to their names, indicating they have played or are playing (are, in this case, as all 5 are on rosters) in the NBA.

And it's a total coincidence that UK went 35-3, 38-2, and 38-1 the three years that UK had the #1 overall pick in the draft.

The question is how to you define an "NBA player.'' Is it someone who gets drafted and gets a cup of coffee in the league, but doesn't play much, and is shuttled back and forth from the G league before flaming out in a couple years? Guys like Doron Lamb, Teague, James Young, etc.

To me, it's a guy who can survive for 4-5 years, gets his share of minutes as a rotation player. Guys like Monk, Knox, maybe Diallo although he's borderline. Based on that criteria, I think Richards and Maxey are the most likely candidates, with perhaps Hagans if he improves his outside stroke. EJ is suspect unless he improves. The twins at forward, Brooks and Whitney are very suspect based on what they've showed so far. The caveat is it's horrendously difficult to properly evaluate guys who are so young...see PJ his freshman year and Herro at this point last year. Could Dontae Allen be the best prospect as a rotation player in the league? Who knows.

This may be the first year in Cal’s tenure where you could argue we don’t have a single player who should enter the draft. I’m not sure who should even be considered our best player but if it’s Ashton Hagans the ceiling is still not NBA-ready.

This season will be a litmus test to see if players are being pushed out to make room for next year’s class or if they’re encouraged to come back. I’m betting we lose 2-3 to the pros who won’t be able to maintain a career past 3 or 4 years.

Everyone has their own definition. IMO opinion, longevity and how much to you play are significant way to differentiate players. Certainly the $$ on the paycheck are different.

True, but plenty of bad shooters who have been Elite college players though. That is certainly his pain point, but improving some of late.

An example being Mateen Cleaves...40% FG shooter and 30% 3pt shooter for career at MSU.

Hagans, Maxey, Whitney, Montgomery, and Brooks will all have good careers in the NBA. You could make an argument that they should all stay for an additional year or more but to say they aren’t NBA prospects seems dumb.

Montgomery will never play a meaningful minute in the NBA.

As bad as Saul was he was 100 times better than Brad. Saul had enough talent to be a good back up for the cats. He was ok as the back up as a freshman, but he was not good enough to be a starter, but he had 100 times the talent that Brad has.

Still he should've never been starting point at UK. I liked him and he worked hard but he didn't need to start for us. Brad got mop up minutes. I think there is a big difference. I don't think we missed on another guard for a guy who got mop up minutes. Tubby intentionally made sure his son was our best option. Big difference but I was just curious if other fans felt the same way, about that era.
