Hey folks, I will admit this post was the result of many hours of reading and moderating comments on this board and it was very late. This is me "going postal" and going on a spewing spree. Anyway, I'm not gonna argue with any of you. I haven't banned anyone for negative comments here, just for the record. We can agree to disagree. Blessings.![]()
Sorry folks, for those wanting to have an enjoyable time reading the board, the inmates are running the asylum until Monday. Hopefully, we'll win by 50 and not miss a shot. Otherwise, it will just continue. In fact, it will likely continue at least until we beat someone of some repute. Beating these coming cupcakes will mean zero to those ready for Cal to go and waiting to pounce at the first chance. If we lose another, heads will likely explode. Spontaneous combustion is not out of the question.
We've all been out on the ledge, hitting the bottle, and popping whatever pills we can find. Some have been posting for sale signs in Cal's yard, saying he's all washed up and done as the coach at UK. He can't even tweet without getting blasted. This is our reality. We want blood, maybe his first born child, or a refund of his paycheck. There is no valid reason for this loss. And I agree with that. I'm sure Cal would agree with that, also, as would the entire team. It's inexcusable.
But last Wednesday, the stat I kept seeing, on national TV and on this board, was Cal's record against #1 teams, which is the best of any active coach. I guess that has now changed? He became a washed up has been in one week. He went from being the best against the best to "it's time to go" in 1 week. Maybe it was his evil twin coaching that Evansville game. Just for the record, I'm the first to float that theory, in case it gains any traction.
I'm not sure what the answer here is, but I'm certain I'm gonna hear a thousand theories until at least Monday, and maybe beyond. Maybe I have a solution...
Let's hire Tubby or Gillispie. I hear both are available. Gillispie went to a Final Four at Texas A&M. Tubby won a title somewhere, I'm sure. Or hey, McCarty would probably come from Evansville. He's the coach du jour and is clearly a better coach based on this one game. Anything has to be better than what we've been putting up with these last 10 years, with such mediocrity. Can't make a final four, can't win a title, can't even make an Elite 8. Anyone could do better. We could keep players around longer. We could have more seniors for Senior Day. We could get to know these kids while we despise them for being losers. We could stop being their stop on the way to the NBA. It would be great. Tubby would be perfect for that, actually. His players usually stayed because they had no prospects. The grass has to be greener on the other side.

Nick Richards, JuniorWhat I read on here from many posters, and there are becoming more and more of them, is for Cal to right the ship, not fire him. Coach for the University, and not the NBA.
If you had read my entire post you would know what I would want him to change.Nick Richards, Junior
Ashton Hagans, Sophomore
Immanuel Quickley, Sophomore
EJ Montgomery, Sophomore
Nate Sestina, Grad transfer
So there's 4 multi-year guys and a 5th year big man he brought in to play that has a low chance of ever playing in the NBA. Outside of Maxey...which of the freshman look like they won't be multi-year guys?
SGA was a 4 star that rose quick...no one expected him to go lottery.
Herro was expected to be a 2 year guy....went lottery
I mean what do you want him to change? We have multi-year guys...yet its not good enough? If we go back to getting 2-3 top 5-10 ranked players people will clamor for multi-year guys. When Tubby was here it was "man why don't we go after the elite players"
It seems Coach K saw what Cal was doing and went the same route. Roy Williams is going after the same players....I don't know what Cal is doing any differently than just trying to market his team better for the top recruits.

No worries, mate. You are entitled to vent just as much as the rest of us. No, just tired. :smiley:So, are you stating IL is ill?
I love how any criticism of Cal (whose swag and recruiting classes seem to have made him infallible) are turned into a Tubby and Billy G criticism.
We get it. Without Cal UK would deteriorate into mediocrity and the program would lose its prominence and luster. UK would become Indiana.
No one who has any sense (or who isn’t a troll) is wanting Cal fired. Some of us just believe he isn’t going to bring UK another title (for several reasons), and games like the other night reinforce that belief while illuminating the reasons.
I don't disagree with your OP at all. I just want to take some time and make a running list of fans who want Calipari gone, because I think that it will help the board take note of who the real problem posters are.
I don't mind doing this task as I'll have some more free time around the holidays and will start making a list. I won't attack the posters either, just merely remind the board that these types of posters are not the standard here on this message board.
I don't envy your job, by the way. You're doing a great job.

Cal is not above criticism. he is the man in charge, it comes with the territory. He has thick skin, being doing this a long time, if he did not, he wouldn't still be a the coach at a Blueblood program, especially one that is UK. But, there is a fair / right way to do it. SOME go waaayyy overboard. But the reason they do that is to draw attention to themselves. "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME, I AM PISSED AND I KNOW BASKETBALL."
50 % of the blame sits right on Cal's shoulders. He is responsible for preparation, game plan, and in game coaching.
50 % is on the players. Not saying he did, (he didn't), do all of his jobs, it is still the responsibility of the players to come out and execute the plan that was laid out (they didn't). Cal did not miss one shot, turn the ball over, fail to attempt to get a rebound, and last but not least, hustle.
Neither coach, nor players was focused for this game and it showed. It is a good thing Evansville did not shoot great, they would have ran us out of Rupp Arena. That is the part to me this I was most disappointed in. They did not play that good, we just sucked that bad.
Get it fixed. That is the responsibility of both Coach and Players. Another little thing that kind of gave me a good case of redass, Cal coming out and saying toughness was the problem. Toughness is not something you can turn off or turn on. You either have it, or you do not. But I would say lack of effort, shot selection, and game plan, and in game adjustments cost us, not some fake macho BS. The game was a finesse game, there was no banging in the post, or rough play, unless being tough somehow translates to hustle, effort, and making shots, I can't blame lack of toughness on the reason we lost.
You must be responding to someone I have on ignore.

We have been a top 5 team going down the stretch in 2 of the past 3 seasons. Missed the Final Four by basically a basket each of those years. There is a segment of posters here that consider that a failure.
That’s a non-starter for me. Can’t engage people like that in a logical discussion. Sure things could have been better, but not much better. We’re dancing on the head of a pin here.
I totally get when people don’t enjoy the style of play for whatever reason. What I can’t go along with is this hyper egotistical mindset among some that adjusting the style of play would naturally produce better results.
I enjoy UNC’s style of play. They don’t win it every year either. Gonzaga is also fun to watch but we all know how that usually ends up. Not because they aren’t good, but because this thing is hard to win.
So you want better spacing, or shoot more threes, or shoot less threes. Press or zone, run or skip. Fine. Talk about it, complain about it, whatever. Just chill out with the irrational belief that someone your way will result in more wins for the coach who has won more than anyone else over the last decade. Whether you always like it or not, his way works pretty stinking well.
Nobody complains about 2017. Nobody.
Lol, you must have missed a few posts.
Possibly. Most people were concerned in 2017 with John Higgins not John Calipari. Are you denying that?
I think if Cal does 80-90% of things great its fair to question and criticize the other 10%.
Its reasonable to ask for them to watch game tape of other teams. To practice free throws. To fix some things on offense. To build roster depth and experience. To point those things out doesnt equate wanting ro fire the guy. He does a lot of things in a kickass manner.
I suppose its like a Yelp review. Very few people are inclined to leave glowing reviews. People have an expectation of good food and service. When an experience is poor, thats when they are more apt to speak up and express their anger.
Or perhaps a more apt metaphor is the girlfriend you just take for granted. Show appreciation for all the good things she does instead of focusing on the handful of things that drive you nuts. But some of our fans want to act like those things that drive you nuts dont exist or shouldnt be discussed.

I think everyone here is behind this team and want it to do well. But when a team and coaching staff lay that big of an egg, real fans wonder what the hell is going on.Discussion is a good thing that’s why most of us are hear. Hating on these kids and Cal are another. Makes you wonder if some of our posters treat their families that way. We have a lot of young posters that expect instant gratification. When they don’t get it this is what you get. What I don’t get is some of our older posters that should know better are joining the party. I’ve been a fan since 1966 and I’ve witnessed great and not so great UK teams. If you live long enough you’ll realize life is full of ups and downs. You learn to deal with the downs and move on or you allow it to consume you.
I was disappointed with the loss, but **** happens. I believe by March Cal will have our team ready. These are kids and Cal knows how to mold kids into men. Let’s get behind our team and Cal and get over the loss. We have over 30 more games to play and get better. Tuesday was a down Monday will be an up.
You think playing an somewhat more uptempo game plays to our advantage in most games ? I'll be more specific .. the Kansas St , auburn and evansville losses . Pretty slow , low scoring affairs ,
Also you think running an offense with more movement and getting a player a certain shot from a certain area on the floor is better than random movement and a " be better than your man " approach ? I think I know your response but I'll wait and see .
Your comments to me are kinda foreign , that adjusting our style of play is useless and not worthy of any discussion. Would be a pretty dull , rather useless message board if we were all robots and and just say in unison after every game " Everything is Fine... Everything is Fine .. Everything is fine " Well everything is pretty good but we have high standards in the bluegrass .
Considering he’s picked fights with over half of the board I’m sure you’re spot on.nothing yet?
Little did you know I’ve met a few people on this board that know I’m not a “big ol boy” so it’d be impossible for me to say that.
But my guess is that there are a few people who don’t like you on this board so you got me mixed up with someone else.
Go Cats.
