On the night Kentucky opens the season ranked #2 against the #1 ranked MSU Spartans, Cade Cunningham gives a 15 minute heads up and decides to commit to Oklahoma State to join his brother. In his announcement video he's playing the song that nearly every UK commit plays (Scholarships by Drake) which has the line "I rock Kentucky blue." Not only this, but he prefaces his announcement by saying he wants the big stage and the bright lights, he mentions his brother early in the video and says when his brother took the job, everyone thought his decision was made for him. He talks about his family urging him to explore his options and make his own decision. Everything before his announcement in his video made it seem like he was coming to Kentucky then he flips the script, unzips his jacket and reveals an Oklahoma State t shirt. Now listen, I'm sure he's a good kid and has a great family and all that and I don't want to be too harsh on a high school kid, but this one just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But hey, despite of the kid choosing to go somewhere else, at least he go to watch what he's going to miss out on as Tyrese Maxey exploded onto the scene with 26 points and looked like a superstar for the Cats in the Mecca of the basketball world, beating the #1 ranked team in the country on opening night. Cunningham wanted the big stage and the bright lights... hopefully enjoys the big stage of Oklahoma State.

He trolled himself. Just doesn't realize it yet.
This. It's ultimately his loss. He will have to carry Ok State. He will not have much help. So, the chances of them being able to make much noise in his one season on campus are slim. It may affect his draft stock as well. Oh well. I would have loved to have him and he would have loved it here. But, there are other fish in the sea and Calipari will have a team ready to compete for a title without him. His loss.

Strange kid. All
The things he highlighted describe UK and are what was probably part of their pitch, so he outlines all that in his speech, knowing it does not describe OK st at all but then picks them.
Not strange that he went with his brother, strange and ****** the way he basically fed all
That BS that weighed into his decision and then picked the school that is the opposite of all
Those things.
This is why words mean
Nothing in this life. He can say he is a winner and wants to win a ship and all that, but the reality is he does not. He did it for his brother and to be a big fish in a small pond.
Won’t hear his name until June of 2021.
Kentucky wasn’t for you Cade, you ain’t mentally tough enough.

Literally why bother. Let it go. I heard there’s more than one good player in this class. I have my sources.

When he's sitting in a hotel room in Morgantown next January, on a 9-9, unranked team preparing to play a game not carried on any cable outlet, while watching #1 Kentucky play the CBS game of the week while commentators drool over Clarke and Boston and Askew, et al, he'll paraphrase John Donne and say to himself, "Don't ask for whom the troll trolls, he trolls for me."

Paragraphs.

But also, so? I mean, what are we going to do about it? Just be mad forever? Write him on social media and tell him how upset you are?

I'd also caution burning any bridges (and I can promise you the people who matter won't) in case things go sideways at OSU. He's not likely to sign a LOI during the fall period, and if there are staff changes made in Stillwater, he'll end up here. So maybe hold off on finding his roofing business, Billy Joe Wildcat.

I wonder what that secret meeting that Mr Cunningham and Cal had was about? Maybe that meeting turned CC to OSU.

I agree a couple of places we won’t see Cade play next year is in the champions classic or the NCAA tournament.

My apologies for my formatting lol. I'm sure I messed the reply up as well. (Still figuring out the etiquette and whatever). I was just really excited for the potential of having CC, Clarke and Boston in the backcourt.

Granted we'll most likely get Askew to reclass and you could very well be right about something going sideways at OSU. I'm just saying that it felt a little disrespectful to drop subtle hints to UK then flip the script.

Also I've been trying to get ahold of the Cunningham Roofing Co. for months to no avail.

I'm curious as to why we've seen these trollish head fakes for the past few seasons. I realize I don't follow other teams recruiting as closely, but I don't think other schools are getting malicious treatment from prospects like we've seen.
I wondered the exact same thing CeltiCat. Cal absolutely goes above and beyond pitching UK’s advantages for career development and opportunities, and in return some feel the best way to show their respect, is to pull what happened last night. Not only the kids, but the parents, opposing coaches etc., apparently encourage it. An absolute classless move, by any standards. Cal had the last laugh.

I do not think he was trolling. I think he was telling his recruiting story from beginning to end. He did have a little suspense with the Drake song. But it would be boring without it. He was telling the story of done deal to OSU, then fell in love with a blue blood and almost signed with them after everyone said he was a lock to OSU, then he ended up where everyone said he would after almost not going there. Then the final chapter, "blood is thicker than water" being he decided not to go to the big stage and play for a blue blood, but stick with family.

Now, having said all that, UK trolled him. He announced before our game, then moments later we beat the number one team on a national stage. Maybe now he is thinking "damn that was an exciting atmosphere, maybe I made a mistake." Now he gets to see the school he ALMOST switched to, in the headlines for quite some time being the number 1 team in all of college basketball. All the while, he will have to look for the back pages of sports stories to read about the "Blood Is Thicker Than Water" school OSU grind thru a season and HOPE to even make the tournament. WE TROLLED HIM in the end. Fitting. This will play on his mind for the whole year. Or maybe it won't and he knows in a year, he will be a well payed, NBA lotto pick and set for life. He wins either way, but no doubt he will think about UK and see them plastered all over tv's and magazines, in a true round about way, UK got the last laugh, and did not even have to say anything, just go out and win. All we do is win. That is a song also.

Post of the day.

It’s incredible recruits don’t get it. Scouts/nba folks could care less how much playing time/points you average. Whether it’s right or wrong, it’s all potential, so why don’t give yourself the opportunity to win a title (or compete for one). Seems silly To put your ceiling at a second round ncaa Tournament loss

He probably didn't watch the game. High school kids only care about the NBA.

Lol.

The most knowledgeable and sophisticated UK fan has spoken... dont discuss it guys cuz theres nothing that can be done.

I didn't watch..but if all that is true.. i wouldnt want him here if things go sideways. Choosing elsewhere is fine, being a douche canoe about is is not.

And dont worry, he would have stretched it out longer says the worst uk fan on this board. No, using the media coverage of opening night and all the eyeballs on espn doesnt matter.. he would have done it on a random day.

If he were trolling us he wouldve strung it out much longer. He's a great player, he'll be fine playing for his brother. We're Kentucky, we'll be fine without him.
Kentucky has had great players for around 100 years, will have many more great players in the future with out Care Cunningham. Cal's correct, UK isn't for everyone. Playing for UK you have to be physically & mentally tough. Playing for your brother will be much easier, big fish in little pond. There's still the problems with the NCAA for Ok St, odd but things could still flip to our favor. Only problem BBN won't forget easily if that happens.

Some modern kids think their one to three years of high level experience is more profound than 40+ years of guys like Calipari who have literally coached the greatest players - at the same age stage - as the current crop of players. These coaches literally understand all the ins and outs and have made their living by telling elite kids the truth throughout the whole process.

A mentality of "I got this" is the height of naivety, but it's pretty normative in relation to the modern elite high school player. The reality is that there are no sure things. You've got to make wise decisions that maximize your potential career output.

Picking OSU is shortsighted, but it's Cade's decision to make. Good luck to him, because playing under a coach like Boynton (who immediately follows the commitment up with a bizarre, immature and petty chess game message) is just the type of thing that can ultimately cost you percentages of your ultimate financial earnings.

These announcements are definitely set up to build suspense and keep people guessing. They used to reach for one hat and then put on another. Now it's in the videos.

Is that disrespectful? Fans think so. But the kids don't take it that seriously. They view this like a surprise twist at the end of their own story. I don't think it's malicious.

But even if it is, there's nothing we can do. Nor should we. He's a teenager. One we knew was a long shot the second his brother was hired. I'm not taking it out on the kid because internet rumors told me there was a chance.

He’s signing in the early period, and OSU isn’t getting sanctioned by ncaa

He’s only trolling the group who hangs by every recruits movement. Quit paying so much attention to recruiting and pay attention to this team we have NOW!

Isn't there a recurring board for this. He went some where else get over it
