I thought we played Vandy, UT and FL twice every year and then rotated 2 new opponents each year we played twice.

Is it my imagination or did we play Auburn twice last year (1 point win on road and 30 point win at home)? I see their ugly logo twice on our SEC slate this coming season along with UT, FL, Vandy and UGA.

I'm sure this may have been discussed when full schedule came out so apologies if I missed it.

The Southeastern Conference has announced a men's basketball scheduling model beginning in 2015-16 that features three permanent opponents.

Each SEC team will play the other 13 teams at least one time during league play. They will then play their three permanent opponents a second time and the remaining two games will be scheduled on a rotating basis.

The 2016 men's basketball schedule will be announced in August.

Permanent Opponents
Alabama - Auburn / Mississippi State / LSU
Arkansas - Missouri / Texas A&M / LSU
Auburn - Alabama / Ole Miss / Georgia
Florida - Kentucky / Georgia / Vanderbilt
Georgia - South Carolina / Florida / Auburn
Kentucky - Florida / Tennessee / Vanderbilt

Yeah, exactly. Lol I don't fear Auburn one bit this coming season and enjoy playing them but just saying.
Exactly and after they put UK out in the EE in OT last yr. I actually will relish spanking them at least twice this upcoming season.

I've said it for many years now, we always seem to play the teams that are expected to be upper tier in the SEC either twice, or once when it is our turn to be on the road.
Maybe Cal prefers it this way, I dunno, but it's very odd.

It is rigged in a sense. UK draws the ratings and the SEC isn't stupid. That's why we get the toughest schedules every year. Because we are the draw and playing the best teams more often only enhances that. It's not rigged in the sense that they are out to get us.

Yes I don’t have time to find the link but the SEC office admitted last year they “consult” with their television partners on setting the schedule for men’s basketball. So yes it is “rigged.”

Playing the best teams every year creates an unfair balanced conference schedule and potentially costs UK the SEC regular season title and #1 seed in the conference tournament...so yeah, they are kinda out to get us in that sense. It should be a true rotation. We should play every school twice every 5 seasons and once the other 4 seasons in between.

It’s not god to wear a young team down with too many big games, freshman already hit a wall in college. Some say it prepares them for the tournament and that is probably true but it also mentally fatigues them to the point they don’t get up for them later in the year. Even scrub teams play like their lives depend on it against UK, there’s a built in effort target that helps get the team ready for March. You need a balanced schedule that challenges them but doesn’t drain them.

We had a good schedule in the 2012 season. Then Stallings bitched and moaned about it all year, and we haven't had a favorable schedule since.

Rigged to elevate SEC with the best match ups. This does help with recruiting. ELITE players want the big stage and UK gives that to them. Not a lot of empathy for the overall top program in history. There are a couple of other top programs that have some things rigged for them in. Thats what I like about MSU and our first game. They like the tough schedules as much as Cal.

I wonder if this rigging of the schedule exists in other conferences. I can't imagine coaches putting up with it.

If your good enough, tough enough and mentally ready it doesn't matter who you play in conference. What bothers me more is having to play a good team from your own conference late in NCAA tourney. Remember losing to LSU in elite eight and Auburn last year. It's hard to beat a team 3 time, even if your the better team.
