I hope it's great news for us. It could also be them deciding that a grown man's way to handle this is to tell someone to their face and not through a phone that you appreciate them but have decided to go in a different direction. We shall see.
If they made Cal take his time and the school’s money to fly there to tell them “no”, then they’re complete idiots. And the Cunninghams don’t seem like idiots.

This from his HS coach sounds like he is giving OKST a good look because of his brother, but that he is going to go to the place that is the best for him in the end.

“I think Cade has great admiration and love and respect for his brother, but I think he truly has expressed to me that he’s giving Oklahoma State a very, very strong look,” Boyle said previously.

“But he’s also looking very hard at the other schools that are recruiting him. With Ben [Simmons], I always thought that Ben was going to LSU because his Godfather [David Patrick] was there. With Cade, I really believe that if there’s a school that’s a better fit for him, that he thinks has a better chance to get him where he wants to be as a player, and he enjoys the campus and the social life and all that, I think it’s possible” he could pick another school.

Welcome to the 2000s where handling things like a man would be looked down upon.
I think Cal would appreciate it more over the phone so as not to waste even more of his time. I'm sure the cunninghams know how busy he is and wouldn't have him drop a previous commitment to getting right down there just to be told no. He could have waited until after his prior engagement which I'm sure he told them he would have to cancel. That just doesn't make sense to me. I get the face to face thing, but in this situation, I think wasting more of someone's time is actually adding insult to injury.

You and I do not know the situation. They could have told Cal in the past no matter the decision they'd like to tell them their choice in person. Cal might have agreed. The likelihood is very small. Probably close to nil. It's most likely to so they can get some questions they might have newly come up with answered. It's all just speculation at this point.

Seriously. I mean imagine you were dating a girl who lived in Florida and she called you and said “hey I really want to see you this weekend. Can you drop everything and fly here?”

So you do. You fly down there, rent a car, and when you walk in her door she says “it’s over. Sorry you came all this way but I wanted to tell you in person.”

Is anybody gonna tell me you wouldn’t be furious? [laughing]

LMFAO. Everything is speculation and conspiracy theories right now. Just my opinion as far as recruiting goes and the timeline I think this is good news. I believe we are right there and Cal just needs to close and get everyone on the bus. Get all the ducks in a row.

I mean if Cade's dad called and Cal was just watching Alaska the last frontier and they said will you come down then that's one thing, but he had to cancel a previous engagement to do this right now for some reason.

That's a great soap opera story. You could be a writer of some great fantasy novels. It's irrelevant. Apple and oranges. It's vindictive and cowardly. Probably why you were able to come up with it. Have a good night though, Yellowbelly.

1) It wouldn't make Cal stupid to allow a young man to handle a situation like a man. You might be a coward, but that doesn't make others cowardly. Besides it was just an example of what the visit could be. I know reading comprehension and logic are hard, but maybe one day you'll be more than stupid af.

2) Nobody is acting like the distance is a problem.

Good Lord indeed you simpleton.
Look dufus , I took it easy on you because you’re a longtime poster but you wanna go. Let’s go. First off, Cal is not so much of a morally superior person where he’s going to allow a kid to make a damn fool of him by luring him all the way to Texas just to tell him “Sorry Cal, thanks for recruiting me so hard and spending all kinds resources and the school’s money - like you said you weren’t going to do anymore - but I’m going to another school. Good luck”!!!!!
Kudos to you Cal, way to let the kid have his day!!!! Good lord are you dumb or just stupid? Cal has NEVER flown to a kid’s house only to be dissed. He didn’t do it with Terrence Jones (he got him to decommit over the phone) and he damn sure ain’t starting now. Anybody with a modicum of common sense can follow the recent events in this kid’s recruitment (Evan Daniels, Jerry Meyer, Chris Fisher changing their CB pick to UK) and see this kid is going to commit to Kentucky. Now carry on ya big dummy.

The more I think about it, I feel like it's either a commitment to us or that someone wants to give Cal one last chance to persuade people that need persuading.

The problem with that is that I can't figure out what the dynamic would be. Surely it isn't mom/dad preferring Cal over playing for their other child at OSU, is it? Seems like an unlikely split.

So maybe it's Cade wanting kentucky and the parents wanting one last sit down to get on board with that before letting him commit.

You know it could be that the family sat down after the visits and Cade told them he wanted to play at UK, so they discussed it and had some questions to clarify in person with Cal. If Cal gives a response they are happy with then I bet he gets a commit, it’s probably about who will be on next years roster and how the different scenarios will impact Cades position on the floor. Like is Askew going to reclassify and who does Cal expect to leave or stay. If they don’t like the answers then it will probably be the deciding factor the other way.

Has to be some scenario like these. Has to. No way Cal ditches this event for a anything but a yes or a chance to get a close tonight

OKST sounds scared and delusional. Going by what they make a point of Cade's reasoning for where he will go pretty much eliminates them. I mean they suck. Even if Cade does go there who would he bring with him? Top players are going fast and most of them don't have OKST on their list. Sure maybe he gets Thor and the other 4-star kid, but are some 2nd and 3rd tier freshman going to win a national title? I think not. If Cade's words are true he picks UK and brings Greg Brown with him. Hopefully, Cal closed that up last night.

Cade did just get back from a recruiting visit at UDub and maybe during his visit Quade told him if another (primary) point guard at UK is better than you, Coach Cal will move you off the ball to a SG???
:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

No way is it a thanks but no thanks conversation.

Just sounds like Cade/ crew needing some reassurance??

I could be wrong but I just cant see cancelling plans flying to Florida ect just for reassure sake. I'm no insider ect and maybe my blue tinted glasses are a little to blue for me to see it. But I've tried putting myself in the position of someone on the outside looking in and giving a verbal and discussion when the best time to announce ect is the only thing that makes sense. I know if his father asked the coach of Okst to fly down and they had the same buzz we got going for us I would think it's a wrap and he is on his way to Okst.

Officially the first recruitment I’ve allowed myself to get excited about before a commitment. If he goes elsewhere now it’s just going to reiterate why I don’t usually follow this stuff until commitments happen.
It would be the worst case of a recruit taking advantage of UK. It would confirm something that I have felt for a number of years: not only do these kids want their moment to announce, anymore it seems they also love abusing the hospitality and fanbases of the program's, especially against UK.

I’m sure he’s not asking Cal to come down so he can tell him in person that he’s not coming. Can’t say 100% he’s committing, but all signs are pointing that way.
I would be pissed if that happened. Would be a big low-ball move. Would a kid or his parents want that?

To me its definitely important. So cal dropped an important. To do this. Means 1 thing. Lets see how dedicated cal truly is to us. Lets have dinner. And discuss this decision. With everything on the table. With cal. We dont kno the details. Just that its happening. These things just don't happen for thanks coach but srry coach. We just cant sign up for that. This is outstanding news. They are silly close to full commitment to cal and the University of kentucky. Can yall not feel it? Or maybe these things happen with cal in past. And we never heard of this spin on it. Something to think about. With askew onboard already im lil less nervious thankfully. I think cade just wants to hug cal and setup a big surprise announcement. Just my hope and opinion. Nothing less and nothing more. We go from great class to epic that quick... And cade and family know this. Very important!

Look for an evening announcement on ESPN Wednesday, dream class is coming to fruition.

Now bring brown with him and Banchero and Kuminga! Cunningham alone puts our class with an Askew reclass at a new level, as 2-3 of those others and my word!

That's what I'm thinking. Clickbaiting. And a huge disrespect to Cal
It’s coming from Patrick Loney who is a writer that has a UK sports site called Big Blue Banter. Believe it or not, some people unlike yourself has a positive outlook on things. They just don’t automatically go to the negative zone. Step outside your box.

My conspiracy theory lies right in the words. Cal thinks cade is commiting. That is either smoke screen or actually truth

Don't want to be Debbie Downer, but Cade's Dad may have told them that they just couldn't turn down Okla St and Cal asked to give them one last shot. I don't think that to be the case, but nothing is a given in recruiting.

Just to consider all sides: this could be to tell Cal that he has to stick with family but that he appreciates everything and that he won't sign in the fall so that if things go south he'll flip to Kentucky.

It could be to commit before the Washington visit and tell Cal that he's going to honor his word and still take the visit.

But if the family requested the visit, it's one or the other. Has to be. You don't request that someone fly down just to chat. It's to give them your decision in person.

You don't make someone go out of their way, give up time with their current team to fly down just to tell them bad news, that's a phone call....

But the report said that the dad was the one who requested the meeting. To me that doesn't sound like Cade's dad calling Cal, telling him he's not coming and then Cal being the one that asked to come over for one last shot.

Of course all we have to go on is what's reported by other people and we don't know 100% what the truth is...........but I can only see this as a very positive sign.

100%. people already penciling him into the lineup like they’re never followed recruiting at all.
