Just to consider all sides: this could be to tell Cal that he has to stick with family but that he appreciates everything and that he won't sign in the fall so that if things go south he'll flip to Kentucky.

It could be to commit before the Washington visit and tell Cal that he's going to honor his word and still take the visit.

But if the family requested the visit, it's one or the other. Has to be. You don't request that someone fly down just to chat. It's to give them your decision in person.
I get the whole tell them your decision in person thing but to have someone fly down to say thanks but no thanks is normally unlikely, to me that’s much worse than just calling me up and letting me know. It just seems touched up to reject in that scenario, I also don’t think it’s a pure commit either.

I’m guessing that it’s a group meeting to win one person over or get everybody on the same page and if that goes well it could then result in a verbal.

After a ****** day this gave my bleak existence of a life hope. I’ll rest easy tonight.

Same here. This cheered me up slightly after a horrible day.

Hope you all get some peace this week. Been a rough last 2 years for me.

Was that this weekend? I thought it was this coming weekend and then he was shutting it down?

Did we already play Georgia? Did Brad transfer?

I'm pretty sure he already took that visit to Washington this past weekend.

Good points. I also think it's less likely he would fly Cal all the way down just to thank him for recruiting him. Sounds to me like the type of thing you do when you want to give a coach good news followed by a hug and a lengthy and exciting discussion about the next step.

I could be wrong, of course, but I think a phone call telling Cal, "Thank you for recruiting me, sir, but I'm going to play at OSU" would suffice if CC was heading elsewhere. If he was just going to tell Cal "I'm headed to OSU" out of respect, one would think he's going to do the same for UNC due to how hard they've recruited him.

It's hard to say for sure, though, as recruiting responses don't really fit any particular monolithic format.

You don’t ask someone to get on a plane and come see you to tell them bad news, right? I get the respect of telling someone bad news face to face, but to ask someone to take time out of their busy schedule to come see you?? I just can’t imagine this being anything but great news.

The more I think about it, I feel like it's either a commitment to us or that someone wants to give Cal one last chance to persuade people that need persuading.

The problem with that is that I can't figure out what the dynamic would be. Surely it isn't mom/dad preferring Cal over playing for their other child at OSU, is it? Seems like an unlikely split.

So maybe it's Cade wanting kentucky and the parents wanting one last sit down to get on board with that before letting him commit.

You know it could be that the family sat down after the visits and Cade told them he wanted to play at UK, so they discussed it and had some questions to clarify in person with Cal. If Cal gives a response they are happy with then I bet he gets a commit, it’s probably about who will be on next years roster and how the different scenarios will impact Cades position on the floor. Like is Askew going to reclassify and who does Cal expect to leave or stay. If they don’t like the answers then it will probably be the deciding factor the other way.

I can't imagine a recruit would make a coach come down right as the season is about to begin, just to tell him "No". I don't think the player wants that, and a coach would rather just take the 5 minute phone call.

This news could be coupled with UNC signing their PG, as well.

I like where this is heading. And if we get Cade, we will have the #1 class locked up.. in October! We've gotten early recruits under Calipari.. but never like this. The #2, #4, #26, #34 and the #45. Just grab a Center and move on to 2021.

I'm spitballing like everybody else but hasn't his brother been his trainer for most of his life? Maybe the family is resigned to the fact that the brother will be fired if Cade signs elsewhere but they want to try and get some special access privileges for the brother to be around the program & Lexington next year?? (just my random guess)

Like some others have mentioned I can't see CC and family asking Cal to fly down after BB practice has started and to cancel previous plans just to say thanks, but we are going with the brother. That would be adding insult to injury. I'm not coming and I just had you fly here when you are really busy LOL. It has to be to give a verbal or tie up some loose ends-questions. Either way, it sounds like he is leaning towards UK and Cal is being called in to close the deal. Anything else would be extremely strange.

Has any other UK recruit that we know of requested a visit like this before?

The logistics bill is definitely worth it!

Everything sounds like this is just for Cal to close the family. CC probably visited UW after UK and said, oh hell no. I gotta get my *** to Rupp and UK where they do it big. This feels like CC is ours to lose and Cal just needs to close tonight.

This piece didn't say anything about the Cunningham family asking Cal to come down to Florida tonight. This piece made it seem like Cal is chasing Cade, afraid that he needed to counter whatever happened on Cade's UW visit. Thoughts ?
Hate to rain on your parade negative Nancy
But it’s been confirmed Cal was asked to come for the visit. Some of you people just look for something negative.

There's a handful of reports out now. I just picked one, but there are multiples saying CC's father ask Cal to dome down.

I hope it's great news for us. It could also be them deciding that a grown man's way to handle this is to tell someone to their face and not through a phone that you appreciate them but have decided to go in a different direction. We shall see.

I got a conspiracy theory for you all. What if Cade’s dad requested Cal to come visit so he could tell Cal that he will be verbally committing to Oklahoma State, BUT will not sign until the spring. This would make sure his brother doesn’t get fired before this season is over. Cade can then flip to UK with Brown in the spring and join the cats next year. This scenario would have to be explained to Cal in person, so as not to completely shut off contact between Cade and Cal. Thoughts?

Why in the hell would Cal be stupid enough to fly all the way to Texas to get turned down? You act like the distance form Kentucky to Texas is like Lexington to Nicholasville. Good lord man.

1) It wouldn't make Cal stupid to allow a young man to handle a situation like a man. You might be a coward, but that doesn't make others cowardly. Besides it was just an example of what the visit could be. I know reading comprehension and logic are hard, but maybe one day you'll be more than stupid af.

2) Nobody is acting like the distance is a problem.

Good Lord indeed you simpleton.
