LSU coach Brian Kelly calls Harold Perkins his "most versatile chess piece" on defense. Perkins can play about anywhere on defense – inside linebacker, outside linebacker and as EDGE rusher. “His versatility is important to what we do on defense,” Kelly said. “He is now physically able to play inside out and still is twitchy off the edge. He can still cover if he needs to cover. He’s made himself into the player he needed to be, and it’s going to be fun to watch him. He’s an every-down linebacker who can play sideline-to-sideline.” Perkins arrived in Baton Rouge as one of the nation's most heralded recruits coming out of Cypress Park High School in the Houston area. He earned freshman All-American honors and was an All-SEC pick during his first two seasons at LSU. He posted 147 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, seven forced fumbles, two interceptions and seven pass breakups in his first two seasons.
