Really bizzare. Would love to see the rest of the video.

I would be that if that was a Rutgers player who gave a fake name, they would have been immediately handcuffed and arrested.

The fact that he lied about his name would make it obvious to me the kid was covering something up. I think the police were trying to give him leeway but also knew they were filiming.

Honestly it’s better than I expected.

He doesn’t appear to be intoxicated. Seems like he just got scared and lied about his name. Not good but not the end of the world either.

Definitely doesnt appear drunk, my guess is someone else was driving and was drunk and crashed. He probably didnt wanna flee the scene and run as well so he stayed behind. Only thing he did wrong was lie about his name. Probably not even suspension worthy tbh

also why is the UM AD driving a 2011 rav 4

if I'm sober, I'm not letting my drunk friend drive me home

The cop said the seat was way far up so it sounds like a drunk chic was driving and bailed and he was covering for her. Should have just gave his real name but honestly this video makes him look better than the initial stories made it out to be

Maybe Obama's daughter was driving

Read that on their message board after it happened.

Maybe she was on her free Obama phone and got distracted

I consider this much more serious than some of you – – he obviously lied to the police officers about knowing who was driving, even if he was not driving himself. That’s two lies he gave, and he persisted in the second.

Whatever he lied, later admitted he lied. Who cares

Zavier Simpson routinely “carries” the ball, career-long at Michigan. I can’t recall him ever getting whistled for it. Don’t expect the local Ann Arbor police to lay a glove on him. He leads a charmed existence. If he played for Rutgers, he’d be whistled at the worst possible juncture of a game.

Let me spell it out – – under section 750.479c of the Michigan penal code, concealing a material fact from, or making a false statement to a police officer in the course of a criminal investigation is punishable by up to 93 days in jail. Because Simpson indicated that the driver had left the scene, this was a criminal investigation. Persisting in thwarting an investigation is a serious matter. To say “who cares“ is asinine.

The law also says you could go to jail for speeding at certain speeds. Doesnt happen tho.
Hes a kid who said one dumb pointless lie. This is a non-story, he shouldnt have even been suspended

I don’t know how much time you spent in Municipal Court, but if you think that you get as big a break for giving false information to police officers as you do for speeding violation you are sadly mistaken. And once again, he persisted in the lie about knowing who was driving, and thus whether there was a potential leaving the scene charge against someone, and even a potential theft. And it was not one lie. It was two distinct lies – – his name and whether or not he knew who was driving.

So what do you think would be appropriate here? Throw him in jail and toss the key in the river?

because there is such a gap between “who cares” and “throw him in jail and toss the key in the river,“ this is another asinine response. Both extremes are obviously equally inappropriate. But the point here is that the offense is not trivial; saying that a one game suspension was too harsh is ridiculous.

If he was a regular student, sure . Your logic is correct . But the kid is not and gets special privileges. That’s just the way it is. Move on.

80, great points.

But KYK lives in the extremes. This is his standard MO.

You’re joking right! I mean, come on! He helped someone cover up leaving the scene of an accident! Then he gave a fake name to the police! Stop acting like he was only guilty of jaywalking!Any other student not on the hoops or football team would’ve been thrown in jail for doing what he did!

Yes , but he’s not any other student . This kinda stuff happens all the time . It’s the way of the world. I don’t think it’s right , but it’s not changing . Enjoy the games .

He should be treated as any other student. The fact that he is an athlete does not give him the right to avoid punishment when breaking the law.

People saying he shouldn't even have been punished, and that it was not as bad as they thought are clueless. These cops were clearly protecting him.

I am not going to argue with you that the kid should have been punished or not. I am telling you he didn’t get punished because of who he was. If he was some great medical student he would have got harsher treatment . But he’s not, he’s a very good basketball player and the rules are different How do you not understand this?

I didn't say I don't understand it. I said its ******** that he gets different treatment because he plays basketball. It's ******** that the rules are different. They shouldn't be different.

I think I'm pretty damn clear on what I mean.

I don’t know what to tell you . The only way this changes if people stop watching and caring about college sports . So either accept it for what it is or stop watching . Because this is what happens in most places .
