Is he a true Point? Or a combo?

Can he score from 3? Does he have a good handle?

Can he score from 15 ft. and drive / or dish?

Think he may be very valuable if he lives up to his press out of HS.

Add in Geo, McConnel, Mathis, Harper, Mulchay / Kiss...here's hoping.

Pretty sure he's a true 1 at this level. Mulcahy, Young and McConnell will most likely run the point, with McConnell being able to play the two as well. I see Harper as more of a 2, so he and Geo will take turns at that spot next year. Not sure about Young's shooting ability, but when Geo doesn't have to run the point he won't always be facing the best defender on the other team, so his shooting should improve. Right now he's being asked to do a lot, especially given that he's not playing his natural position.

From what I've read, he's more of a combo guard who happens to be 6-1 and very quick, NOT a "true" PG. From all accounts, he's a "scorer" though not necessarily a "shooter."

He can hit the three. I have seen him hit many in practice from the top of the key. I think he hit like 5 or 6 threes in a game in the BIG 12 Tournament last year. He is by far the fastest guy on the team and his hands are very quick on defense. I believe he can play PG or the two but that is just my opinion.

Curious, do you see Mathis as a 3?

From what I’ve read he’s a 2 guard who can play the point but it’s not his real position. I do think he handles the ball better than Geo and he’s much faster so maybe he’s asked to share the PG load with Mulcahy. Geo immediately moves to the 2 guard position. McConnell can almost play the 3 and so can Mathis. I think these guys all see a lot of shared playing time and we go with the hot hand.

Much better offensive player than Nigel was....Nigel played tough defense when he was dialed in, as long as Young does that, we have a much better overall player.
Id pump the breaks on that one. If he can give us a solid 15 minutes A night without playing out of control, where do i sign?

Not really a 3 IMO. His offensive skills, which are considerable and will develop as he plays more, are well suited to the 1 or 2, with the 2 being the most likely spot. He's about 6'5", and that might be too small for a 3. With his speed I think Pike is going to use him to get to the rim and draw fouls, among other things.

Besides the 5, most teams want to play positionless basketball with interchangeable parts which we seem to have and will have more of next year . Ideally you’d want someone to step up and be more of a pure point though with the ability to get us into our offense

The only reason I asked if you thought Mathis was a 3 was your post didn’t include him among the 1s and the 2s. I agree that Mathis is a 2, with the ability to defend a 1. I don’t agree with your post that Harper is a 2 next year. Harper is a 3 and could see time at the 4, if he can defend a 4.

He definitely disappointed at Texas. I saw him play a few times, and based on a small sample size, and unless he has an epiphany, expect a solid rotation player better than Kiss and Thiam. Also, expect to pull your hair out at times.

Im watching his game tapes from his last 5 games at texas. Im changing that prediction above. Hes a solid player but plays a little out of control at times
