Pope probably should have kept him. If I were Antiqua and Pope asked me to return, I'd just chuckle and hang up the phone.
Idk what's going on in his head but I could absolutely see the fit. He's familiar with selling Kentucky to recruits and now he has experience recruiting guys for a similar offense in Illinois. Pope should absolutely kick the tires.
Recruiting wasn't why we sucked those last seasons.
Would take balls (absent) or cluelessness (presence) on Popes part. O wanted to stay and Pope told him no. Now Pope is sucking and desperate so he goes begging. I would think O has more pride than that. Or would at least hope he does.
And I would say there's good argument that it isn't why we sucked this season either. We had, at minimum, comparable if not outright better players than everyone we lost to when measuring by high school rankings.

He begged to stay because of his kids. I would imagine he’d say GFY if asked to come back.
Would certainly fit Pope's *****-made personality though to beg for him. Then Antigua would of course reject. Who the hell wants to downgrade from a high major staff to a mid major level staff?
