Woolfolk the hybrid??

Could he fill I hybrid roll for us by not only giving Cliff a blow, but also play along side Cliff.
The both of them out there together would reduce the rebounding advantages tall front courts may have?
Perhaps Mag already fills that roll.
Either way his apparent awareness, physicality and body control gives us a lot of options and flexibility

We have heard the talk of Cliff and Reiber playing together. I dont see why the Wolf coudnt play the 4 and Cliff at the 5. We play some very big teams in the conference and sometimes have to double team, like when we play Purdue with Edey.

Reiber hit some big shots last year from 3 point land and he had some good games. Im a bit surprised that he didnt work on building his body this off season. Wolfork looks like GiaCarlo Stanton out there and hes a freshman. Granted, he was a Tight End, but thats what a power forward should look like in college basketball.

The simple/obvious answer is Dean can hit the 3 and Woolfolk can't so Dean can help space the floor if teams are doubling Cliff

Woolfolk is just flat out way more athletic than I thought though. He moves well enough to guard the 4 which I wasn't expecting. It's possible he gets minutes there. His perimeter defense was the best we have seen from a big man

We haven’t really had an answer for the Kyle Young’s of the B1G.
I understand Kyle and his ilk are not NBA players, but those relentless rebounding types reeked havoc with us.

His innate ability to not get a step behind or out of position, which lead to the appearance of a desperate attempt to defend will immediately lend itself to less foul calls anywhere.

FWIW, I think Pike said that Reiber gained 10 or 12 pounds of muscle in the offseason.

RHJ was a much better player than Young. We did beat them last year so we had an answer but I get what you’re saying. It’s nice to have that extra size like we had a couple of years ago. They didn’t play much but always good to have extra bigs for many reasons.

Woolfolk have very good touch around the rim. The shot he missed in the post was with his left hand. Pretty sure he's righty

Depends on who your best players are and what type of shot you can get in your offense. What if whoever Woolfolk is guarding happens to be your worst one on one player on the court? You still want that to be your plan?

No. I look at all options, of course. If I have Michael Jordan, I give the ball to him. But I would not have AW on the floor. I'd work, as opposing coach, to get a switch where he is not on your worst offensive player. He is, as a raw frosh, a liability on the floor at the end of the game and not a strength. I think you'd be gifting your opponent by adding in an option.

Lol you're just assuming Woolfolk is a liability on defense. He looked like the exact opposite in the scrimmage. One of his strengths was how well he moves. He hedged and recovered on a ball screen better than any big man I've seen at Rutgers in the Pike era

At this point Woolfolks minutes are at the five backing up Cliff, down the road as his offensive game/skills develop maybe he could be a 4. Reeder’s got a lot more offensive skills at the 4.

Coach Pike could be flexible here if he sees a long power forward imposing his will on us off the boards in a close game.
It would be strictly a rebounding move.
Depending on who we’re playing, Dean could easily still get minutes at the 5.
