Time to start discussing the short list of candidates. Hopefully we don't go cheap. Would anyone at A&M make the list with the obvious connection of our AD? I hear Jimbo Fisher is only doing a podcast these days or are we done with the retreads. Which would also remove Norvell because he's about to get fired at FSU.

The obvious one is Milkman. He will show interest and he will be contacted. As I said in another thread, I think GJ is no longer a viable candidate for us as he just signed an extension meaning the buyout is probably close to 8 figures UNLESS he has a special TU clause as being one of those exemptions with a smaller buyout. I wonder if Chris Petersen could be lured out of retirement. He's one retread that I think could get it done. (Pipe dream I know).

I just don't know who is out there anymore.

It's good to know that the people with the power to make this happen see the same futility on the field as we do. The part in the article about renewed financial commitment is the best TU news I've heard in months.

Let's hope that this is just the start.

Do we go after an up and coming assistant coach?

Finding another John Cooper is like finding a needle in a haystack.

The memes going around campus right now are hysterical. I’m not smart enough to know how to post a screenshot from my phone on here though.

Now that KDub is taken care of, let's fire yesterday, and in no particular order, Konkol & Nelp, but I suggest we keep the Cross-country Gulleys' and the rowing team staff.

As if our true freshmen football players, getting a ton of experience, needed an extra excuse to leave the program, a new coaching staff will do the trick. Thus, I don't expect the results the next couple of years to be much different regardless of who gets hired. But, TU is my team, and I'll support it whoever is hired and whatever the results.

That one is interesting.
Just one game and he’s gone

dumb. You can fix a program quickly with the right coach and portal. We won’t be losing going forward

Dumb ? Nick Saban couldn't turn this program around with this personnel . Good coaching can
maybe get a couple of extra wins a season but without overall talent no-one is going to
sustain success at TU . Wilson's staff recruited a very good freshman class , unfortunately there
wasn't enough older talent . Time for TU to unload some linemen rummies who will never play
a down at Tulsa and start fresh .

Those are just excuses you’re making for Wilson. Just stop it.

God this is a bad, low info take.

Really you want Nelp fired? She just won a conference championship, she is probably the one good hire from our former absolutely awful AD's entire career in any sport at any school. The fact that a 70ish year old guy got to make major decisions here with the record he did is shameful and shows how the importance of Athletics dropped from Lawless to Upham.

The portal has changed everything, the right coach will double the current talent level and add experience.

Today is a good day.

I am absolutely shocked the pulled the trigger this year. I believe it needed to be done but I was shocked it was this year and before the last game of the season
Those of us who watched the home games in person knew it sooner than later. I can’t believe TU was getting blown out by programs that were in CUSA a year or two before. It was embarrassing. Every fan I knew who had season tickets wanted this done quickly.

At the very least, the Mods should quickly ban and delete any post that suggests Loren Montgomery.
Agreed. High school coach was a disaster last time.

If it’s not Kinne or Marion or up and comer, this hire is a mistake. Our greatest successes have been from up and coming coaches.

Repeat after me.

“Kinne is off the table. That ship has sailed.”

7 years, $2M/yr (average). We won’t come up with that after blowing $1.9M/yr on Wilson.

Monty and Wilson turned our football program into a dumpster fire. Mediocrity is now seen as a laudable effort... This must never be the mindset for TU. At the very least, the cancer has been surgically removed as of this morning.

He had 8 years as a head coach and zero winning seasons.

That says it all. Nothing left to learn.

HIs whole coaching tenure felt like a money grab from a swindler.... An overweight baby boomer with no retirement plan in place... "ooh, I'll go collect a paycheck at little old Tulsa, how hard can it be??" That was his attitude.
Hey! I resemble that remark!

Hire Brennon Mariom from UNLV! He'll bring an exciting offense and probably some really fun players from UNLV. TU, please stop hiring these "too old and over-paid" coaches from the past (Haith, Wilson) who absolutely can't relate to the younger players of today.
What happened to the rumors of Brennon being hired as OC at FSU under Norvell?
